Here are my thoughts. I've got a gay cousin, several gay/lesbian friends and have met some others via Blogging. Jesus loves them just as much as he loves me. Of course he'd welcome them into his church - so we should too.

The question is: is it a sin to be a homosexual? Well, no. Is it natural? Well, no. It's not how God designed things to be.

But the SIN part is the acting out and having sex based on your homosexual desires - just like its a sin for me to have sex based on my heterosexual desires (since I am not married).

But the main point I want to make is that the majority of men/women I know that are homosexual don't want to be. They don't revel in it like those flamboyant gays you see running around in "gay pride" parades. There is a deep sadness in most of them because they've lived a lifetime of feeling "different" and some have been ridiculed or rejected. I also believe it's very possible for a homosexual to change...not easy, but possible. I've known it to happen.

So back to the question of middle ground...I think its all middle ground in a way.

I think we need to love people, even those who are hard to love. If we are going to ask a gay guy to leave church - then we better ask all the guys who are having sex with women to leave too. And all the people that cheat a bit on their taxes or are full of jealousy or ....you get the idea.

To me, abortion is a black and white...I don't see how anyone can find a middle ground there.

Its fascinating to watch the response to this. I admit, I am humbled by my own response because so many times I've though she was just a party girl out for attention. Its obvious now that she's disturbed beyond that. Someone suggested on a post that she may have Post-partem depression - which is a serious, life-threatening disorder if not treated (sometimes threatening the life of your own children).

How many Britneys are out there that are not in the media? You are so right Bob, we need to pray for the lost girls, boys, men and women who need the True Love of Jesus.

Wow. This was so interesting. How can anyone say that Christ's love and forgiveness is for everyone....except serial killers. I can't think of anyone who needs grace and forgiveness more. It in no way excuses his what he did or absolves him from paying for his crimes (which he did), but Jesus came for all of us...not just the "good" people.

Wow, you stirred up a great conversation. I have mixed feelings on a draft. I totally see where you're coming from...but I also saw three of my cousins drafted off to VietNam and one cousin flee the country to avoid it. One of the cousins that went over never made it back. I was just a kid, but it made the war real to me.

Yet, I am very proud that my father fought in WWII and was at the Battle of Bastione (not spelled rigth). In fact you've probably heard me say that cause I talk about it every chance I get.

I would be horrified if my son (he's 16) was drafted off to war...Its just a tough situation.

I do know a young man, Jason, who is being shipped to Iraq in the next few weeks. He's my great-nephews dead beat dad.

I live with my daughter and her husband who are both active duty military and we will be moving a lot. My daughter tasked me with finding new living room furniture to replace the set they were given and it was driving me crazy. The prices I was finding were so out of reach and most came with more than pieces they wanted or needed. I happened on to your ad and decided to look. AWESOME. I showed my son-in-law and he was enthralled with the storage. He has an extensive DVD library to store somewhere (right now in laundry baskets and suitcases) and this would be the answer. My daughter is overseas right now but I sent her the link and she was tickled. Since we will be moving periodically we can return the furniture to the original cartons and it will save the furniture from the wear and tear of frequent transportation. She also loved the idea that other covers are available that will change the 'look' of the room at any given time.
We will be purchasing from you and I think this site will make its way around the Military community quickly due to all the advantages your furniture has over all the other I have seen.

We ordered a chair, loveseat and ottoman from you, and wouldnâ€™t you know it, my husband and son had just left on a fishing trip when it arrived. Now I happen to be a middle-aged woman who couldnâ€™t change a tire if her life depended on it and whose idea of heavy exercise is to stir a cup of coffee. But my curiosity got the best of me and I started opening the Home Reserve Boxes. Before I knew it, I was putting the ottoman togetherâ€¦then the chairâ€¦then the loveseat!

You need to tell prospective customers that the assembly can truly and easily be done by one person, and a 90 lb. weakling at that. You donâ€™t need someone to hold pieces in place while you attach them, and you do not need physical strength. (I, of course, could not even budge a couple of the boxes, but I solved that problem by unpacking them on the spot and carrying the pieces into the living room.) You also donâ€™t have to be an engineer. Your instructions and drawings are so straightforward and clear! I commend you for actually being honest when you say â€œeasy to assemble!â€ And by the way, the furniture looks very nice.

P.S. If I send you my sewing machine manual, do you think the folks who do your instructions could rewrite it for me?

I had a friend who passed away last year, his name was Boyd, his nickname was "The Button Man"
he had a bazillion buttons...when his wife and I went through them last year we gathered them all into 3 and a half rubbermaid LG containers. There is such a variety..from vintage to military to ....a bazillion...
This is in memory of him next month of his passing.

My sister's name is Therese (NOT Theresa as Therese Z probably gets called a lot too). It a beautiful name.

Anyhow my fave holiday memory is the year my dad totally surprised me by going above and beyond our usual price for gifts (we didn't have a ton of $$$) and got me a STEREO. Its not the actual stereo that fills my heart with warm memories, its the fact that my Daddy picked it out special for me cause he knew how much I loved music even back then. It turned out to be the last Christmas we had with him healthy...he had a few more years with us but was battling cancer.

I loved that stereo so much because it said "I love you" from my Dad!

Well I am all for no smoking public places because its gross and disgusting (I am a former smoker who never smoked in public even when I smoked because I think its inconsiderate to others).

Its funny how much things have changed. I remember as a child standing in line at the grocery store with my mom and there were people smoking everywhere. In stores, restaurants, even elevators! Its weird to think that was so acceptable such a short time ago. I wish we would have known then what we know now.

I do empathize with smokers - quitting was very hard. I LOVED to smoke, it was something I looked forward to and enjoyed.

Umm, yes I do have a thought but should I really say it? As far as comment moderation - I completely understand the need for that since some people get very undesirable comments that they don't want to subject their readers too.

As for the no comment thing....it seems that the ones I have run across that don't want comments have a bit of an attitude - if you know what I mean. That's just a feeling I get from some...kind of like they are saying "what I have to say matters, but I'm really not interested in what you have to say".

Now I feel bad for saying that!

For 15 years I worked at Campus Crusade for Christ. CCC valued prayer and biblical principals, but they did not always have an open mind to change and often took things to the extreme. As time went on and our beloved Bill Bright passed on to Home, CCC realized that they needed to be training new leaders (duh!).

Well, in my personal experience there I watched TIME AND TIME AGAIN men given roles in leadership because of their gender rather than their ability. They would be given women on their team that were more qualified, creative or whatever the case may be. This created conflict.

My boss (one of the few younger leaders and number one on my list of people I admire) did the unthinkable - he allowed WOMEN to lead in his department! You should have seen the reaction. I found it entertaining but also sad.

I was honored one day when he sought out my opinion when he was seeking a new Team Leader and he suggested three people, 2 male, 1 female. I immediately chose the female BECAUSE OF HER QUALIFICATIONS NOT HER GENDER! He said he had chose her too and asked me to pray that the two guys that would be reporting to her would accept her authority over them. In the end one did, the other asked for a transfer.

JESUS SAW THE VALUE OF WOMEN and I think many men today are realizing that even though men and women are DIFFERENT they are EQUAL. The goal of CCC is to spread the gospel - so if they are going to let that be hindered by some male egos, they need to move to an all male ministry. Just my opinion.

I have seen both sides of homeschooling. Unfortunately in the church I attended for years there was a "rivalry" of sorts. The home schoolers looked down on the non-home schoolers and some even taught their kids that families that did not home school were not "good Christians". My son begged me to be home schooled when he heard that (at about age 8).

Anyhow, I know thats extreme. Most of the kids I know that were home schooled are much more mature, better educated and responsible. But really - I think that has more to do with parenting.

One family I know was SO strict with their 2 girls that one rebelled and is now living in a juvenile detention center :(

There has to be a balance in everything.

I was 4 years old when my dad and I saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I appreciate them and of course had a ton of their albums...but when they split up I went with John. I wasn't a Christian at the time, but still today I have a very special bond with his memory because I was staring at a painting my friend had just completed of him when I heard the news he'd been shot. It was very eerie. There is more to the story but this is not the "all about me blog" so I'll shut up now.

This book sounds like a must read for me since I'm such a music person - I wish I could just download books into my brain!

My expectations were high too and that's why I put if off for so long - I am usually disappointed. I liked the movie, but really don't see why it is nominated for an AA. It was sad but funny and had a good message. To me it was mostly about all the hangups each member of the family seemed to have - except Olive, she was totally innocent because she wasn't yet tainted by the world. I liked it, but didn't love it.

Bob, Hmm. Well after reading this I don't know what to think. I live near Rick Warren and have watched Saddleback grow from a couple hundred people to what it is today. I do have some major reservations about it, but I also see (in my area) people going to church who never would have considered it before. I guess my concern is not that PDL and "warrneism" is taking over other churhces - Its a churches decision to change or not change they can't say they were forced to be a PDL...my concern is this:

I know people who go to church to hear Rick.

That's my concern. They have put him at the cetner of their "Christian" life and I sometimes wonder if the truth of the gospel has even reached them. I am not saying it hasn't, but a few people I know that attend there don't seem to be aware of the Gospel, they just like the "positive affirming messages that get them through week to week".

So all that to say, I am not for or against the PDL...but it bugs me that, like Bruce said, we have become so Us against Them. I don't even know which Us or Them I am sometimes. This may sound pathetically immature, but part of me means it sincerely:

Sara, I am a little late but I am sure you need prayers. I am not familiar with your disease, but I will read about it. My daughter took steroids for a long time and lives with pain now everyday and takes pain medicine everyday, so I have some idea of what you are facing. Praying for you.

Thanks for sharing your story. The fact is-- religion is man-made -- and men (and women!) can be prideful, arrogant, creepy, self-serving, jealous, insecure, mean, confused, hurt, and clueless. Prideful men can become pastors and some people enter into "Christianity" for the high or the experience or attention or good feelings and crave more and more of the experience(tongues, healings, signs and wonders, miracles, incredible worship experiences) -- it becomes all about the feeling. Or it becomes about who has the best music or arguing Bible scriptures or who preaches the best sermons or what church has the most people or the classiest lobby or the children's Sunday School that looks like Disneyland.

But none of that is God. God is so big we can't comprehend Him. How dare we figure Him out anyway if He created us.

Best advice I got -- stop trying to figure it out. Stop trying to beg God or work for Him. Stop trying to get Him to prove Himself to You. Stop listening to people -- Christian or ex-Christian. Put it all away -- the memories, the yearnings for having it again, the preaching of leaders you've had, the Bible verses you've memorized -- let go of all of it.

Put it away -- go away from it all for a good long while. It'll be hard -- but lay it down.

Why? Because God gave us free will. And as long as we keep striving and carrying on and listening to everyone else -- we don't hear Him.

He could shout at us over everyone else. But are we really listening? Do we stop listening to others and stop trying to figure it out ourselves?

You have nothing to lose by letting it go -- focus on something else -- and wait and see. If God is real, He'll still be there.

For most of us there are a thousand internal and external thoughts and voices and sounds to focus on at any given day. And so much advice, so much religion.

But the God-sized hole people talk about, the yearning people have for friendship and community and even for a perfect world -- religion won't fill it any more than imperfect and flakey people can. And we're all flakes.

God can-- but we gotta stop filling it ourselves.

It's worth a try---

I'm sorry you had such awful church experiences. Crap like that hurts. And it's okay for everyone -- Christian or not -- to question and doubt sometimes. You don't want to have faith based on other's opinions or have it forced on you. What kind of faith or relationship is that?

But if you want to know if there is a God -- get quiet and wait - it can't hurt.

Who said God created religion?
God created us, sure, but I think people created religion. In our image of whatever suits us, lets us control things and people, have our niche in the world, feel better-- whatever-- we can really confuse things, after all. God is not an author of confusion -- we are. Take away the religion and you still have God.

We are intelligent and savvy and creative. But that doesn't mean everything we do with our minds is useful or good or unselfish. Or what God desires. Religion can sometimes be good for us and cause us to do good for others -- or it can be the opposite and cause hurt and confusion.

Puts a different spin on things, anyway.

Ah -- pure and undefiled religion -- yes -- you're right -- that would be God lead ...

But my automatic skeptical brain was thinking of the word "religion" in a broader sense -- not all religion is pure or Godly or undefiled or even good -- and when it is created by man, as it often is, it is not necessarily pure and undefiled.

Jesus himself spent a great deal of time preaching to the "religious leaders" of His day about this -- that it wasn't about their religious law -- or their hypocritical interpretations and actions resulting from it -- but about loving God and loving others. You can follow a religion zealously, but never love anyone. Religions, even Christian ones, that revolve around man made rules (i.e. don't dance and don't listen to secular music and don't be anything but joyful...) and condemnation and guilt and shame and performance and outward signs and tongues and money and buildings and worship styles ... etc... aren't pure and undefiled are they? They focus more on man and not on God .... And they force us to be hypocrites because we can't follow all those rules and be so perfect or even have all those outward manifestations "dude" was so pressured into thinking he had to have.

Hi - I haven't checked your blog for a while but I got a kick out of your "complaint" about the phone.
I think you should be feel honored when a friend picks up with only a minute to spare.
Here is why. When I do not have time to talk but someone I love calls me - I want to know if there is something they REALLY need or if they just wanted to chat. If they really need me that becomes my priority but chatting can happen anytime (especially since you said you talk to these folks several times a week).

Don't know what single mothers you run across but I work, raise my kids not to make the same choices/mistakes I did, although ultimately as adults their decisions will be their own. To my knowledge there is no more welfare but once again I wouldn't know because I work. I don't need or expect your pity or anyone's glamourization, but also think there are a lot of sistas that do not deserve your beratement.

Northfield drug problems Gary Smith tells the truth and understands that drug useage IS a problem in this "special place". There are so many people in Northfield who stick their head in the sand and DENY any problems here. I am sick of the schools, colleges, and Northfield News ("we print only happy news") controling what Northfield citizens are informed about. If there were 30 students in the high school referred (per Supt. Richardson) for treatment for heroine or oxycodone, WE HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM. I know firsthand how difficult it is to get someone referred in the schools. If 30 were referred, there are probably 75-100 who should have been. This is just "typical Northfield"...never acknowledge we have problems. Oh yeah, we also kill the messenger. Best wishes

l understand your sentiment. I am one of many that descended on your state to support my preferred candidate. It took me a while to realize that the bold (some would say brash) approach we have in New York clashes with the polite, quiet habits of our neighbors to the north. I returned on Sunday because my son had to be back for school.

This was our first trip to New Hampshire and I feel lucky to have gone for many reasons. I am impressed with how deeply you realize the importance of our political process and how actively you participate in it. We need everyone in our country to participate. My weekend in New Hampshire brought another profound awareness. In a conversation with a fellow campaigner, we touched on the subject of 9/11. He said not many realize that people in Salem and the surrounding area suffered significant loss that day. Many people on the two planes that took off from Boston were from there. We don’t speak much of those who perished on the planes. I don’t know why. I think people in New Hampshire have been raised to be kind, polite, patient, and to suffer loss with quiet dignity. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit your state because it has made me more aware of the many different ways we have experienced the past eight years.

I did not meet you when I was in Salem to tell you why I am actively campaigning but please indulge me from afar.

As we make changes in Washington, it would be a mistake to “throw the baby out with the bath water.” We need both change and experience in the White House or we could end up with an administration that has the right ideas but cannot fturn them into reality.

I am supporting Hillary Clinton because she has earned my vote through performance and results. I know that if Senator Clinton were a senator for Louisiana, the citizens of that state would not be suffering as they are more than two years after their terrible losses. I know this because for eight years I have watched her work as my senator. In 2001, we could have fallen into the doldrums that have plagued the survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita but as our senator, Hillary worked along with her fellow elected officials to make sure our needs were voiced in Washington and she got tangible results.

We Americans are facing serious problems both domestically and internationally. Of all the candidates, her resume is the most accomplished with solid work experience in both these areas. Consider the positions she has held.

Senator (Domestic experience)

Proven ability to initiate changes and see them through to fruition

First Lady (International experience)

Made visits and developed diplomatic relationships in the countries The United States has been and will be negotiating with as we move forward

Lawyer (Our country supports the rule of law)

Has a thorough knowledge of and work experience in law

Wife (supportive role)

Honors her commitments no matter how hard the challenge

Mother (Positive feminine role model)

Gracious example to her daughter, young women across our nation, and throughout the world

Homemaker (I love chocolate chip cookies ;D)

The list goes on.

A true change over the past eight years would be to elect the most qualified candidate and see her perform as president. She is a leader. We need Hillary as our president.

Okay, if you’re still with me, thanks for indulging me. as you, I also feel strongly about the responsibility we all have to participate in choosing our political leaders. And the good news for you is…the onslaught will be over soon. I am grateful to the Hillary Clinton for President campaign for giving my son and me the opportunity to visit your state and learn more about you. It was money well spent.

To respond to 'nobody made them pray'. In the small town I grew up in, if you didn't pray with the team, you didn't play with the team. It really boiled down to the us/them attitude that we do very well here in the States--if you aren't 'for' Christianity by praying, you are 'against' Christianity.

Do I think that everyone in my town should hold the exact same religious beliefs as I do? Cancel the Christmas tree and quit celebrating Halloween? No. But I do think that when 'Jesus' was invoked, everyone who disagreed with the actions he was being invoked for were explicitly being told that they were unwelcome.

So my beliefs that Jesus really wasn't involved in our trouncing the opposing basketball team (hmm..the implications when we lost? was God *not* on our side?) and that prayer to that effect was inappropriate was very unwelcome. In fact, I was called anti-Christian for saying so.

Silly me, I thought Jesus would care more about not being cruel to the two Jehovah Witness girls that were consistently left on the bench. In fact, I still do think He cares more about that then whether BHS won or lost a basketball game.>

Here are a few axioms that make sense to life regardless of culture. Universal truths whether we like them or not.

Be careful what you wish for, you may get it--like so much power and control you feel justified to murder hundreds, thousands of innocent people.

God gave Saddam life and God ended his life. Please read the old testament and see how God affected justice to the unjust. Read the story of Haman, hung on his own gallows. God used who he would to affect this execution. As a man sows thus shall he reap...in Saddam's case it was destruction. He built his own gallows...literally was hung on the same gallows he used to hang the innocent. Nothing different could have been expected. It was God's death sentence that hung him. He was left to his own ways and died according to his own ways. If you don't think God did it, think again.

Hi Daniel. Thanks for your thoughtful response. My faith will not be shaken or determined based on the outcome of a trial.

I work in a prison on death row. I'm a nurse. I care for those who have executed by gunshot the truly innocent, who have boiled their infants to death, who have tortured and murdered innocent adults, children and babies in ways so heinous I would not write them on this forum. I chat with them and visit with them and try to make their days as meaningful as I can. It sounds odd, but they benefit by their incarceration. They are cared for medically and spiritually, are treated humanely and given every chance for appeal and legal recourse. They are physically comfortable. I walked out the other night and waved goodbye to one wearing an ipod, walking on a treadmill while watching TV, waiting to take clothes out of the dryer before using the ironing board for street clothes--no prison garb required--hoping there was enough time left to type a letter before lockdown. I wouldn't want to be on death row, but in case anyone thinks these people are mistreated I want to tell you that would be a myth. They are not spoken to with any disrespect nor physically treated disrespectfully. They are treated courteously and kindly with sincerity. That's how it is on my watch anyway. They are criminals by virtue of their crime and their incarceration. Otherwise they have a very comfortable existance. It's not all volleyball and therapy, however. No one would want to live in a prison.

On the other hand there are many murderers not found or convicted who also face death...many kinds of death...of living with themselves in agony, of never being truly free plus a myriad of other emotional, spiritual and psychological woes. Although your statement regarding OJ made for good writing at the end of your letter, his verdict doesn't shake my tree nor determine where, why, or in what I base my faith. He will never have peace in this life. I may meet him in heaven, but in the mean time he lives with consequences and justice as long as he is on this earth.

My work is not a career, it's a ministry and a calling. The inmate's crimes are as heinous as Saddam's, just not on the mass scale. I tell each person I care for that I know they have gone to court and have already been judged. I am not there to judge them. I'm there to take care of them, help in any way I can, to listen if they want to talk and to encourage them and remind them of God's love and care for them regardless of their sins. He can't love them any more or less regardless of their behavior. If I couldn't say those things from my heart I wouldn't be able to care about these people. In the meantime they, and we, live within a government established by God. They have broken the laws of the government and they are under the penalty of the government and we go from there. They, we, are all aware of the law and of consequences should we break it. We are without excuse. That's not to say we cannot be better, do better, change the justice system for the better. We can.

The system God put in place dispensed justice for the "condemned." He knew the system would be flawed...it is run by humanity and could be nothing but flawed. Yet he set it in place.

Many in the current church age focus on the "God is love aspect" of the Creator, either choosing to ignore or disbelieving that he is also just and will avenge the innocent. Yes, vengeance is his, and he will affect it any way he chooses. If you think God is not the force behind what happens to people who have murdered, that they are not reaping what they've sown, then there may be a misunderstanding of who God is. Why some go "free" and others are executed we cannot say, but there is divine justice on earth for some who are guilty that we cannot take apart and examine or put together and explain piece by piece. There is justice that we will never be able to quanitfy or define. Why for some and not for others we will never be able to explain. It is divine decision and we are left outside it. The Proverbs state you can tell a fool by the number of lumps inflicted on his head. And what you cast on the waters comes back on every wave, shaken down, pressed together...and in ways you may not want or expect. I know, I know...I know the context of the verse. I have simply found it true in both the positive and the negative. There are forces set in motion by acts that will not be stopped...living by and then perhaps dying by the sword are part of that reality. We can abolish the death penalty and many of those who murder will still be murdered themselves. God does establish our governments but he doesn't need government to avenge. And he is an avenger as well as a lover, a father, a shepherd, a life giver. He is all.

I carry the key to death row in my pocket and the key to life in my heart every morning. I pray the life I carry within will somehow be used to bring peace and healing into my unit. I am sad for their choices and sad they are condemned. I also know they are reaping the consequences of their actions--and each one of them knows it; believe me they know it. Many are now believers in Jesus and in the God who established the government that will punish their crimes. They accept it.

There is another aspect of those who have murdered and are imprisoned. I also work with those who have killed others but were not sentenced to death. My unit has the highest risk of suicide in the prison. I am a first responder to hangings and cuttings. I give CPR to murderers, those who want to execute themselves for what they have done. It's not always the stir crazy inmate who wants out; it's the guilty who want to end living with the memories of what they have done. Would I be more compassionate to let them go? To not respond to their attempt and let them die and be out of their misery? Which is right? Their choice or mine? I would make the same choice if I were on the street rather than inside the walls. I choose life and hope and a chance to know the Savior and find peace before the day they do face their creator, and they are often angry for being "forced" to live. "Why did you cut me down?" They will attempt again because they prefer death and God to life and memories.

Do I have a solution? Should we abolish the death penalty? All I know is that I should seek God and ask him to fill my heart with love, with himself and his wisdom and pray others will do the same. And when our hearts are filled with him and changed by him it will be reflected in our society and in our laws--both for the innocent and for the guilty. In the mean time we live out our lives understanding there are consequences for our actions and choices, that we live in a soiled and flawed world, that our best offerings, our most noble discourse, our most thoughtful essays are to him as filthy rags.

Hussein was not repentant that anyone has ever heard of. He was proud of his tortures and power and control. He was brought to justice on this earth by the penalty of law. He should have learned a lesson from Haman.>

I love it how all you men get to speak on the subject of abortion. If it were your bodies (need I say anymore).

when i was 17, i had a boyfriend with tattoos all over and it made me want a tattoo...i thought, no, i might regret it when i grow up. when i was 34, i was drying my legs after a shower and it hit me: a cat on my ankle. i got my first tattoo at the age of 34. after my daughter died in 2001, my second tattoo followed, a turtle and her name, bekah, on my right wrist. now at 50, i'm ready for my third, a hawk and the first letters of all my boys' [3 sons 2 grandsons] on my left wrist, with the same colors and font as bekah's. self mutilation, self expression, memorialization. it's my choice and i have no regrets.

Keith, I hope you don't mind me adding to your story about Kaylee's surgery. I just had to mention that Kaylee insisted on taking her Tiger that Paw Paw gave her just before he passed away 3 yrs ago, to surgery. However, she removed her belt from her robe & gave her robe to Tanya. She tied the end of the Tiger's tail to one end of her belt robe. Then she tied the other end of the belt robe to her rail on her bed. I suppose she got that from Maw Maw, being so protective of her belongings & wanting to make sure he didn't slip away.

Hi, my name is Barbara, and I work for FIJI Water. Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate hearing your perspective on the work we’re doing. In fact, we've been reaching out to treehugger.com folks to discuss this and would be delighted to speak with you in person. In the meantime, I have a few comments and questions.

First, I'd like to clarify that we are not "blaming" our products' emissions on our supply chain partners. On the contrary, we're taking responsibility for these emissions by including them in our carbon footprint and in our reduction and offset goals. This is important so that consumers can understand the products' true environmental impact. We think everyone should do this to ensure consumers are fully informed when they seek to make responsible decisions.

Next, we appreciate your recognition that much of the environmental work we’re doing in Fiji probably wouldn’t get done without us. But when you say "it's not so nice" a bottled water company is doing it, do you mean you only want the people you like to do good things for the planet? And the people you don’t like shouldn’t get a chance to help too? That seems to limit the amount of good we can all do for the Earth.

Also, why do you use treehugger.com's estimate of FIJI Water's carbon footprint when we've published a footprint that was verified by ICF International, a leading authority on GHG inventories and climate change? There's more info at http://www.fijigreen.com//OurAnnualFootprint.html - we've provided ICF's assurance report and a detailed description of our methodology for anyone to read. And this way you can be sure the analysis isn't based on false assumptions like the blogger's statement that we ship preforms from China to Fiji.

Finally, I'd ask you to consider the fact that FIJI Water does good in other ways, by offering a healthy alternative to more processed, emissions-intensive beverages like soft drinks, and through economic benefits to the nation of Fiji. Without FIJI Water, Fiji would lose 20% of its exports and several hundred of its best paid manufacturing jobs. I know these problems may seem distant to you, but imagine the people affected were your children, your parents, your friends...how would you feel then?

And the other readily available income options would have an environmental impact far greater than that of FIJI Water. The Sovi Basin rainforest was a logging concession until Conservation International and later on FIJI Water came along and saved it. Logging the Sovi Basin would have released 10 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and destroyed a shelter for many endangered species. There's a scary thought for anyone who cares about the environment.

We would love to discuss all this further with you. We know you have a passion for the environment, and it's important for people who care about these things to share what they think with one another, especially when they don't see eye to eye on everything. How else will we all learn to become better environmental stewards?

I lived about 3 miles from the Yates' when this tragedy occured. It was a heartbreaking story then and still bothers me today that this "man" is allowed to walk free without punishment! I truly hope that his second wife gets smart and leaves him before he is able to do irreversible damage to his son.

I'm sorry for everyone that is going through this horrible loss. I think that you are so right about the boy that murdered Krista. The girl involved is obviously very unstable and vengeful to have even thought of doing such a thing to another person. She used that boy to do her dirty work knowing that he had probably never had a girl pay him any attention before. That doesn't excuse him though. How someone could commit such a horrible crime is beyond me...and then take pictures to prove that it was done.

I know what it is to lose a loved one to murder and so I can place myself in the shoes of Krista's family and also your sister. My youngest daughter was murdered and it is a nightmare that I wouldn't ever wish on anyone. It is something that a person never gets over. A selfish act committed by another person. Don't pay any attention to what others say about Krista. Those of you who knew Krista know the person that she was. The people who didn't know her don't really matter. Barbara

Simon, I'm getting the idea that you are a friend of the killers. Or do you just have a big mouth. This murder doesn't have anything to do with Krista's boyfriend except for the fact that he had the nerve to dump the blonde. You might not approve of a 16 yr old and a 19 yr old being together but I haven't read that Krista's parents were against them being together. A three year age difference is pretty usual in this day and age.

The bottom line is that this was a senseless murder. There is something wrong with a guy that allows a girl to talk him into murdering someone and there is something wrong with a girl that would go so far as to set up a murder just because she got dumped. Where did it get these two...prison. Was that the end goal? Or did they even think of the consequences? Three families have been damaged beyond repair. One girl is dead and another girl and boy have given up their lives. There is only one question that I would like to ask those killers...."Was It Worth It?"

What happened to Krista is a terrible tragedy. If the blond was so angry the she got dumped why not take it out on the person who dumped her. Why go after Krista! My heart goes out to Krista's family and friends. Krista was a beautiful person inside and out. Her loss will be felt for a lifetime.

Simon..who ever you are..you need to go get some serious help. You are a bitter disgusting person. You have probably never been to that town yet you think you know all about it. You are still in high school...grow up. This may be a place to discuss and share opinions but it is also a place of compassion. If your mother or sister was murdered like Krista was would you like people to talk about them like you are talking about Krista? Maybe your mother should read your comments. She would probably seek help for you or slap you senseless. It's a good thing you aren't my kid. Show some respect for the dead. You are really sickening. I hope nothing like this ever happens in your family you snot nosed brat.

When smoke-free laws take effect, smokers can still go to all the places they normally go; they just step outside for a smoke. When businesses allow smoking, however, there are many people who can't go there at all... people with allergies, respiratory illness, cancer, who are pregnant, or who simply have a problem being exposed to cancer-causing chemicals. And don't forget the workers who are there for 8 hour shifts, increasing their risk of cancer 20-30%!

Amen sister! I am SOOO relieved to hear someone write about (and very well) what's been in my heart and unsaid for years. I'm from California and now live in the South where there are few SDAs. The reputation of SDA here is not great, which is too bad, since some of the doctrine of the church I attend is not what I believe (death, second coming, Sabbath, etc.).

Ellen White I believe is a divinely inspired woman, but the church has wrapped itself around Ellen in such a way that some of the preaching is partly from Ellen and mixed with the Bible. There are scholarly people here who pick apart Doug Batchelor (3ABN) over slips of the tongue when he sites an Ellen White "prophetic" tome, rather than strictly adhering to scripture references. I could go on, but I think you understand.

I work at a contemporary church of 7,000 assisting in research for a pastor (me, an Adventist -- imagine that!). My saving grace is being able to listen to 3ABN, though some of the programming borders on embarrassingly strict SDA fundamentalism.

I would welcome being able to become part of a form of spiritually led Christians who believe that Adventists can evolve spiritually and shed some of the dead weight of works righteousness.

I have medicaid....I also have high blood pressure and tthink I have diabetes. I also have just went to the E.R. and got x rays for my back cause the nerve pain was horrendous....the x rays revealed sclerosis of the hip and disc displacements in three places. My chiropractor is very nice...he says I should be on medicine for my blood pressure and the sclerosis should be tested for cancer....none of the doctors I have seen will order this or even test me for diabetes. They just say it is very hard to order expensive tests for someone with medicaid. I guess my children will lose their mother before anyone takes medicaid seriously but lets face noone will ever take medicaid seriously...it is looked down upon like we are poor. We are not my husband works for waste management and makes very good money ...but they do not offer health insurance. He also had to sign a waiver for unemployment if he ever got fired...welcome to the hard economy times...

I get what you are saying Krissy. I have always thought that the way to equality is not special treatment but to be treated all the same. For skin color to be nothing but a subnote like hair color or eye color.

What really kills me is that before the election all you heard was folks saying they wanted Obama because they wanted change. But as soon as he was elected I started hearing things that sounded like "we finaly got one in the white house." And to me, that is just as prejudice on many levels as things of the past.

You know, I think that I have gotten quite a bit of recognition for my blog, and when I think about food bloggers, most of the ones who are recognized are women--Kate from the Accidental Hedonist, and Pim of Chez Pim are some of the best-known food bloggers out there.

I don't tend to get sexist comments on my blog--if people disagree with me, even when I am snarky, they tend to be respectful. Every now and then I get someone who tries intimidation tactics based on my gender, and that usually causes me to open up a big old can of verbal whuppass.

As for other blog topics--yeah, when it comes to political blogging, women tend to be relegated to a pink ghetto, but I think that is starting to change.

The Tori Amos quote, though, is quite telling and I think she handled it well.

I don't blog for therapy, I blog because I am a writer and chef, and blogging takes care of both of my interests perfectly. And the folks who read my blog don't see what I do as just emotional--most folks note my well-reasoned, rational arguments when it comes to my essays and posts on topics like food politics.

Though, I do think I have more female readers than male these days. Or at least, more female commentors.....

I love Firefox and use it almost exclusively. But, it has one disadvantage. With MSIE, you can view the source codes and edit - but, you can't do this with Firefox, and that's the one thing I miss when I'm not using Internet Explorer.

I guess I traded Pop Ups in IE for no editing source codes in Firefox.

I did nearly drown one time when I was wearing a Smurfs bathing suit. I had the genius idea to carry someone on my back and hit a slope or cliff or whatever you call it in the water when the bottom drops out from under you and you find yourself going oh shit. Of course she freaked out so I was going down. Oh the fun of that day where Sweet Dreams was playing on the radio.

I was thinking about changing the followers to stalkers myself. Maybe when I have more I'll add it to the sidebar which gets quite crowded.

Az orvosomhoz csak jövő hétre kaptam időpontot, ezért még nem tudom, hogy terhes vagyok-e? Ön szerint ez mi lehet ez?

FWIW, I'm with you, for a couple of reasons:

1. The average small child won't be able to do a good job of aftercare. I don't need to tell you about the importance of keeping a wound clean while it's healing. You know your daughter well enough to say whether she's up for the job.

2. A child's body will change as she grows. Those holes that are nicely even now might wind up with one higher than the other once she's done growing--she doesn't want to look lopsided. A reputable piercer (i.e. not the untrained mallrats with guns) will recommend you wait until you're done growing before getting a permanent body modification.

If she MUST do it, have it done someplace where they use one-time-use needles. The needles are used once and discarded (no risk of transferring disease or infection from a previous use) and the needles are hollow and very sharp (it hurts a hell of a lot less).

Those mall places that use the guns? Run away. The guns cannot be autoclaved/sterilized, and they work by punching a solid stud into the earlobe--does a lot more trauma to the flesh, takes longer to heal, and hurts like a mofo. I had my ears done both ways (first with a gun second time with a needle) and I can tell you the needle is a LOT less painful, and my ears didn't wind up with horrible infections afterwards.
