If you are not showing that you even have a disc in your drive, then you have other problems.

Are you sure your drive has cd-rw abilities? What drive do you have?

The firewall is much better than the default firewall. For example, the old firewall would not work if you were on a home network. The other firewall just blocked some ports and did not request permission (a la zone alarm) like this one does.

I am still using Zone Alarm 4.5... but when I upgrade my family's systems, I'll probably just install SP2 and forget about it. It's good enough for your average system.

There shouldn't be any conflict. You are just introducing an extra variable in the equation that doesn't have to be there.

I think most people agree that zone alarm is much better. Why put yourself through the chance of it causing trouble? Plus, it's an added component... and extra thing running slows down your computer just a little.

If you really want duplicate protection, get a hardware firewall to compliment your software firewall. You just don't gain anything by using two software firewalls.

where c: is your drive of interest</ul> Reboot, let windows try to repair the errors, and see if that helps.

The virus above has been edited and renamed by multiple different people. There is no way that I know to list all the potential names of files that you should be looking for. Examples:

If you can't use the task manager, then you won't be able to gain access to them to delete them anyway.

I am not going to reinstall this virus again to figure it out for you, so you guys are going to have to help me.

Has anybody tried rebooting into safe mode and using the recipe above?

Suprnova.org has been like this for a few days now. It has nothing to do with your computer. I am assuming it is from a DOS attack... because of its nature, the site is attacked pretty frequently.

Alternatively somebody may have poisioned the name servers... I say this because http://69.50.170.100/ actually brings up part of the site.

Suprnova directs to a series of multiple mirrors. Likely, you are seeing the ad because it is coming from a different host.

I suspect it might be blocked from the ISP level.

Suprnova is mirrored more than you might expect.

Try to do a google search for "suprnova mirror". Many mirrors are outdated or down... but a few are up.

If you kill an svchost.exe process with CTRL-ALT-DEL, it gives that little countdown and then reboots...

the blanket tskill * does it as well... I am assuming it is from killing the svchost.exe.

I can't imagine a system that it wouldn't force a reboot.

You can... but the chances of it working is low yield. Most places have index browsing disabled. The reason this google search works is that so many people do not know how to correctly set the permissions.

Great recipe. I have always used this technique.

Just find LegitCheckControl.dll and rename it to LegitCheckControl.bak
Go to windows update
When you get past the block and see the express or custom update screen, rename the file back to LegitCheckControl.dll
You should be able to continue to update your system.

Although honestly, the guy will probably just create another log in and start all over again.

You don't have to lose your yahoo emails. Just stop using that account for IM. Find out if you friends use another IM service (msn, aol, etc) and switch to it... or just create another yahoo IM account.

You likely made a mistake and installed the mac system on top of your xp system instead of your spare drive.
