I knew it was only a matter of time before you posted this!

in Coming clean with an addiction… to the Knife Show on the martini shaker*
I sure hope that Time Warner doesn't carry this show because if it does, I may have no choice but to watch it. With the upcoming Writers' Guild strike, I'll need all the unscripted entertainment I can get.

in News Flash… I am addicted to blogging. on the martini shaker*
I, too, am 71% addicted to blogging. It's a good thing I've never liveblogged anything - that would surely have put me over the edge.

I think MySpace is going to be ceded back to the bands pretty soon and Facebook will take over.

Wow! Mine was 2.93. That's better than I would have guessed.

Congratulations!!! I've already ordered your baby gift. Perhaps we could have a Coffee Morning shower for you closer to the due date...

I wondered what happened to you! Hope you feel better soon. There's nothing like hours and hours of TV, punctuated by long naps, to help you shake an illness.

in The world of the waning jingle? on the martini shaker*
My mom was an advertising writer/producer and I can still remember the words to a barbershop-tinged jingle she wrote for Grandview Bank (which has long since gone out of business) when I was a kid:

When you needed us, we were here
Into our 71st great year
Service...security, too
Let the Grandview Bank take good care of you

If I recall correctly, she'd originally written a variation of it for another client, then recycled the tune and general idea for Grandview Bank after the first client decided against it.

My point? Well, I guess I don't have one, except that jingles are catchy and it's a shame to let them die out.

Nice Duran Duran reference!

in Goulet! on the martini shaker*
I, too, find myself quite taken with the Robert Goulet spot. I grew up listening to the 1960 original cast recording of "Camelot," and I think I may still have a little Lancelot crush on him.

These commercials remind me a little of the Minute Maid commercials from a few years ago that inexplicably had Robert Loggia explaining the benefits of Vitamin C to a kid who inexplicably knew who he was.

Glad you're doing so well. I'm going to use your post to try to influence my husband (diabetic, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, hypothyroid, etc., etc.) to take better charge of his health.

I am equally puzzled by the "Dollar Menunaires" campaign. Saying uncool things deliberately doesn't make them any less uncool. Also, am I supposed to know who Jeremy Miller is? "Cause even his IMDB listing is leaving me drawing a blank.

I was just going to say that it reminded me of Indexed only moreso, and then I saw the last credit. Very cool!

Have you ever used Freemind? It's free mind-mapping software that can really come in handy when you're on a roll and may start to lose legibility on a hand-drawn mind-map.

That spot left me cold as well...but at least they didn't just put the ad copy in the mouths of the original characters.

in My Competitive Advantage on the martini shaker*
Here was mine:

My brain is stuffed with trivia and I’m constantly sponging up more information. That’s a huge advantage for a copywriter because it gives me a vast mental catalog that can be used to combine, synthesize and extract new ideas, concepts and turns of phrase.

I grew up on a farm as well, and it's amazing how lazy the suburbs have made me. These days I pay someone else to mow my lawn and clean my house - a far cry from having to feed livestock and haul hay bales.

I never turn up my nose at dumpster diving. A friend of ours has a nice Ebay sideline selling stuff that other people threw away.

Speaking of Adult Swim, have you watched any episodes of "Deathklok: Metalocalypse"? On the surface it sounds kind of cool (to me, anyway): Scandinavian death-metal band in outer space. Yeah, it's completely unwatchable. We took a break from band practice to check out the first episode and quickly decided it was a mercy that the episodes are only about 10 minutes long.
