in Who’s a Joe Six-Pack? on The Washington Independent
The fact that Todd has a "hobby" of racing, expenses for which he ends up taking as a "biz expense" is a total scam - - I know so many guys who do this. It ain't no business, it's Todd having fun! That Sarah, as a Governor of Alaska, is doing this....disgusts me. Doesn't she have enough perks?

The fact that she took the $17,000 in payments for working at home (and the $48,000 in travel expense for her family) is bad enough, that she didn't pay taxes on it and, supposed to be a savvy Governor, is now pretending it's not taxable is dishonest.

And where is the white Suburban that her Alaska aides reported in Alaska press that she had Wasilla buy for her when she was Mayor? A deeper probe into Governor Palin's finances is likely to find many little abuses.
Few families with 4 - 5 kids, on the income she has reported, manage to amass over $1,000,000 by this time in the family's history.

If Charlie Rangel has to be publicly punished, even possibly criminally, for doing this kind of thing, so must Governor Palin. I think we should demand a forensic examination of her tax returns, not just 2006 & 2007, but for the last 10 years. Biden gave us his for 10 years. Where's Palin's?

I've always thought this woman was not all she pretended to be. Her tax returns may prove it. Where's Joe Sixpack? She seems to be leading a Sarah Champagne kind of life.

in McCain Goes Loco on The Washington Independent
McCain is not stable enough to be President of the United States.

It's not just the impulsiveness, he is extremely self-involved and disrespectful of others as well as the rules and courtesies which drive civilized life. He is ready to turn everybody and everything upside down to satisfy his own whims. Has he stopped for just a second to consider what the consequences of a last-minue cancellation of a televised national presidential debate that's been set up for months actually are? What this would do to Mississippi? The issues of TV time and ad time, all booked months ago? Does he understand how unfair he is being to the debate organizers, holding their debate hostage until the very last minute? What about the state of Mississippi, which has been gearing up to this event, proud and excited? How much money would be lost? How many lawsuits? This isn't a high school project, it's the presidency of the United States and the national stage.

Such unreliability, disrespect and chaos would be ill-suited to the most high-ranking office in the land.

in Our view: Presidential debate serves public best on The Eagle-Tribune
Are you kidding? You think his move was genuine? Not for a second, it was fraudulent.

First, he never went to Washington and he didn't suspend his campaign, he stayed in New York to attend Bill Clinton's Global Summit, where he got to give a scripted speech on the economy (much better than debating live), which was televised. I call that CAMPAIGNING in a big way. If his heart was in the right place, if he really thought he was needed at this negotiation, he would have frustrated Bill Clinton and cancelled, just as he is prepared to frustrate American voters, but oh no, he didn't cancel that because he got to get lot sof publicity and talk to those early voter states without having to be vulnerable in a live debate.

Last evening his press aide boasted that Harry Reid (D) and house speaker, had personally called for McCain. Today Harry Reid spoke for himself - McCain hasn't been in the Senate since April and they've got on fine without him, he's not needed.

TRUTH. McCain is not going to have any direct role in the bailout negotiation, other than the meeting with buddy Bush, which MCCain called to set up. So when he says he won't debate until the deal is signed, as if he's going to be working on it, it's a great big pantomime. He's counting on it not being signed before the ameras roll in Mississippi.

TRUTH. McCain knows he and especially Palin are vulnerable. Notice he's asked to delay the Palin debate. He wants that delayed until after the early vting states cast their ballots.

TRUTH. McCain didn't reach out to Obama in a bipartisan way, with a good heart. Obama did, at 8.30 AM on Wednesday. McCain didn't want Obama to take credit, so without informing his gracious candidate, he pulled a fast one and announced this ridiculous stunt.

John McCain is not a patriot who is putting country first. He is a fraud, who is putting his campaign first. If he does not honor the principles and processes of this presidential campaign, he will have lost all credibility. Even more than he already has with all his lies.

in Obama Camp: McCain Not Suspending Campaign on The Washington Independent
And let's not forget that McCain did not rush to DC this morning to help negotiate this deal. He cancelled last night's Letterman appearance - he would have had to answer questions live. But he "campaigned" today on national cable TV, giving a prepared speech on the economy - - that is one hypocrit. He staged a dishonrable heist.

Also his press aide said that Harry Reid (D) had asked McCain specifically to come and that they really needed him. Funny? Reid made a statement to day quite to the opposite. In fact Reid pointed out that McCain hadn't been in the Senate since April 2008, and they'd all been getting on quite nicely without him, thank you.

John McCain knows he's on the ropes if he, and especially Palin, debate the big issues facing our nation and have to answer with specifics, vs campaign slogans. He is peddling as fast as he can. Just like my 19 yr old son does at college when he has a big paper to present and feels if he presents as is, quite unready, he'll get a bad grade. McCain is doing the same. Only difference, he is supposed to be presidential material, NOT an irresponsible, unprepared kid.

in Letter: Obama, Democrats share in blame for fiscal meltdown on The Salem News
A few corrections of fact required here.

In March 2007, Obama called upon Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Paulson to bring together lenders, consumer advocates, federal regulators and housing agencies for a summit to address resolving the foreclosures issue, stating he believed "the GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT AGENCIES were too slow to respond to an overheating housing market" and that "REGULATORS are partly responsible for creating the environment that is leading to rising foreclosures in the subprime market."

The Bush administration didn't listen to Obama. Furthermore, from 200- - 2005 the firm of McCain Campaign Manager, Rick Davis, was paid $3,000,000 by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae as a lobbyist - with the sole objective of pushing back on any government regulation and, according to NEWSWEEK & NYTimes, because of his close relationship with Senator John McCain, an on-the-record self-professed DEREGULATOR and member of the Senate Commerce Committee. 1 + 1 = 2. Late-breaking news tonight revealed that Fannie & Freddie then paid Davis $15,000 a month from 2005 until 2008 last month, when Fannie & Freddie collapsed. Almost $4,000,000 to McCain's Campaign Manager just to keep the firms deregulated, and a further $12,000,000 to 20 of McCain's top fundraisers. You're going to have a real tough time pinning that one on Obama, buddy.

You mentioned Obama using Johnson to search for his VP. But you didn't point out that McCain used Culvahouse to search for his. Culvahouse was a lobbyist for Fannie Mae in 1999, 2003 and 2004, according to Senate records. Other McCain aides with ties to the two companies include economic adviser Aquiles Suarez, who worked as Fannie’s director of government and industry relations; congressional liaison John Green, who lobbied for Fannie from 2004 to 2007; and finance co-chairman Frederic V. Malek, a former Freddie board member.

So the attempt to connect Obama to F&F doesn't work. Obama's campaign contribution from F&F? $105,000. Big deal. That's same amount McCain accepted from Jack Abramoff. More of an indictment - - is fact that McCain received $1,619,390 from lobbyists, Obama received only $219,529. I think you'll find that nestling in McCain's $1.6M is a nice haunk of change from Fannie & Freddie lobbyists. Gottcha.

As for McCain's early warnings re Freddie & Fannie. There is no senate record of his involvement before 2006, when he joined Chuck Hagel's Housing Regulation Reform Bill as a LATE COSPONSOR. Hagel authored the bill 18 months earlier in January 2005. Two days after Freddie & Fannie's regulator, Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, released their report on the firms and impact on the market, McCain stood up in Congress and gave a speech regurgitating the content (not his own work) and signing onto Hagel's bill. But he sure has rewritten history in the last week or so.

Finally, before you recast McCain in the role of the market problem whistle blower, clamoring for more regulation of Fannie & Freddie as far back as 2003...let's not forget his quote about his health care reform last week, recommending "opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking"

DEREGULATION he means, so the responsible regulation crown doesn't fit McCain's head, I'm afraid. He actually wants to deregulate the health insurance industry, create chaos, like in the housing market, and eventually cause its collapse.

in McCain Camp: If You Point Out Lies, You’re ‘In The Tank’ For Obama on The Washington Independent
There are a lot of us voters out here who are getting so upset about the McCain campaign dishonesty, and now bullying attempt to censor the press. When you look at all these articles on the subject on Google, they run as..."McCain campaign skewers NY Times...McCain lashes out at the media...McCain accuses media. Bully boy prize bouncer, Steve Schmidt, succesfully managed to distract the media from the real story - MCCAIN CAMPAIGN LOBBYIST ENABLED DEREGULATION OF FANNIE & FREDDIE & MCCAIN PLAYED ALONG!

Isn't it time that Mainstream Media did their job and served their real constituency - - the American public.
Media doesn't have to make the McCain campaign happy, media is supposed to provide the public with accurate reporting and furnish us with the facts and insights we need to make good voting decisions. Instead, media is merely passing on McCain copy points, without andy critical review. Nowhere is this more blatent than in the bizarre case of Governor Palin, the protected political species.

The whole situation is absurd. Stop enabling John McCain's daily lies and distortions. Be brave and speak out, put an end to it. Let's bring truth back into political reporting and censor lies, not the other way around.

ajm8127 I second that. The media's place in democracy is to keep the politicians honest.
