in A terrible day for the Rockets, and yours truly on Yao Ming Mania
John
I am sorry to hear about your things being snatched and the red tape you have to cut through and cut through some more. As a personw ho converted to Mac it is understandeable that the device is not just a machine to type, write, edit. So I am very sorry once again. I truly hope you get your things back.
May i suggest buying an external hdd(not necessarily the wireless one) and jsut backup everything thru time machine. the software itself is very easy to use so no hassle.
best wishes

in Chaos in Beijing today on Yao Ming Mania
wasn't there but my good friend was. he was trying to get us 2 ticketsleft for the wukesong bball stadium. he said it was madness, hence no tickets. took him about 30 minutes of trying to find the end of the line.
people were camping in wulesong for about 2 days for tickets for the bball game. i guess ill end up watching the game from a bar here in beijing because i dont have tickets.

in 1 million have volunteered in Beijing on Yao Ming Mania
yes good off topic blog about this. obviously the reason why soo many volunteered(and most are students by the way) is because it just looks good on the resume.
as a person currently living in beijing, most of my chinese friends, who are students, are volunteers way even before the actualy olympics start; training as well as other performances/competition before the actual olympic games.
i should also say out of personal pride for china, that my friends are doing this. but ask any student in beijing and most of them well tell you they are doing it because the 1 million who did get accepted no they have an ace in the hole per se in their resume; add that with 关系(lost in translation but closest in eng is "connections") and youve got it pretty much made for a future job.
i hope it's a good showing, the booths theyve set up around beijing are interesting since most of those students are studying foreign lang in either beijing lang and culture university or beijing foreign university.
if i can take some photos ill let you guys know

in Houston extinguishes Heat for 10th win in a row on Yao Ming Mania
By far one of my fave games this season. First off I only saw the 2nd half to this. Something happens when McGrady drives and goes ofr a layup or kicks out or to someone close by. i saw him start to settle of jumpers, and those assists came when he passed the ball. I remembered he drove in and everyone collapsed on him leaving Landry to drive fro a mosnter dunk and to me that was the dagger on Miami's throat.
By far this game was physical and with tempers flying. Luis Scola and Carl Landry should have a duo name, while i was watching here in Beijing, Sat Night Live kept popping thru my head. so I thought why not SNL for Scola 'N' Landry. Duo. Both are hustlers and have the offensive threat that sadly Hayes just does not have.
On another note, the refs were just turning their heads away to how Yao Ming was being banged up down low. I dont mind physical games in fact i love to watch physical games; however when you arent getting any calls(Yao Ming that is) and his defender are plain eyed shoving pushing with 2 arms..the refs have to say something about it. I personally thought Yao had a quiet night, he could have gone out for more but with people swarming him and pushing him I could see why not. Again at times it pissed me off no call was called on his defenders...and yes some of the pushing was enough to get a call I personally thought it was that bad(and that's coming from a person who likes physical games)
Overall one of the best games so far this season, absolutely loved it!! So much my neighbors at 10 am were yelling from the wall fro me to shut up, becaus ei was yelling at my laptop! haha

in Yao scores 12 while McGrady carries Rockets on Yao Ming Mania
sorry there isnt an edit button. i wanted to also add...no ball movement same old same of mcbrady taking the ball and everyone watching. what happened to the princeton offense that was being run when mcbrady was out. again a win is a win and mcbrady actually bailed the rockets out.
gees i feel bad for novak...but isnt he from canada?

"You’re not going to be good every night…It’s all about winning. It doesn’t have to be about points.”-idle man saying this?
wow he should direct this more to mcbrady. yes credit must be given where credit is due. but seriously as i watched the game here in china..damn so early! mcbrady was brickin those shots where he usually likes to chuck em. the times he scored was because he drove tot he basket or mcbrady was pretty much left by himself or 1v1....and defense was tight on him from what i noticed when he took those jumpers.

in McGrady to miss more games. I can relate on Yao Ming Mania
"Hi everybody!
Trade rumors are brewing….Yes they are…..
TMAC for Hinrich & Nocioni…WOW!
It would give us a good solid point guard and a good slasher and even better shooter. Most importantly they are real TEAM players. I can see Yao getting the ball more ofter.
Imagine: Hinrich, Nocioni, Yao, Bonzi, Battier….????….????"
if this is true, wow hinrich at point. bonzi at sg,nocioni at sf, scola at pf, and yao at center.
have to consider the fact that the two argentinians will play better since theyve known each other for a long time. its intl and is chemistry for a good team. just look at the teams tht are succesful and won championships.

in Pistons pound Rockets at The Palace on Yao Ming Mania
Hey John, I had gotten these from David Thorpe over their @ ESPN. I think he is on the same boat as you.
link from this is here: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/columns/...
• Every time I focus on Scola, he leaves me wondering why he does not get more playing time. He seems to have an antidote for a team currently 22nd in offensive efficiency. He can shoot, post up and create his own shot -- with crafty moves and superb timing on his counter-spin (both off the dribble and on the blocks).
• Another Rockets rook who's looking to get more time is diminutive point guard Aaron Brooks. He provided a valuable spark in Houston's win over Chicago with six assists, and followed that up with a solid 12 points on six shots in Detroit. His small stature helps him on offense, where his quickness and change-of-speed dribble make him a tough guy to stay in front of. And he's a better finisher at the rim than you'd think.
Good stuff, Jay. I wish David T. could have a little talk with Adelman, who seems to be 3 steps behind alot of people when it comes to evaluating his personnel. -- John

in Bad defense, no offense outside of Yao-McGrady dooms Rockets on Yao Ming Mania
I have noticed something in watching the past few games in which Scola was succesful as well as when McGrady returned from his injury. It has nothing to do with my humble opinion of McGrady being a ball hog, although I tend to agree; it's about Steve Francis and Scola.
Here is one main thing I have noticed when Scola and Steve Francis play, Scola gets opportunities to shoot because Francis actually creates opportunities plays for Scola to show his worth.
This stat is referring to the Rockets Clippers Game, Rox won
http://clutchfans.net/games_box_listings.cfm
There's stats and info there, it's also a great way to analyze since Scola started playing more min.
Here is an example, in the loss to the Suns where Scola scored 20 points, Francis also played. In the next game in which the Rockets lost to the Mavericks, Scola played but Francis did not, Scola had no points.
Although it may be a weak argument sine in future games Scola does not score much (although consistent so far in hte 8 pts 8 reb/game) from what I have seen in all the recent games so far is that anytime their is a fast break Scola always trails Francis and Francis always finds a way to get Scola the ball for the bucket. OR some other form where Scola is posted low Francis trusts him to score
Perhaps this is a sign of a maturity level from Francis not to mention he is more tolerant and friendly towards the intl players on the squad.
PS
one thing that made me laugh was in the recent suns vs rox game, rox won
Scola was called for a travel because he slid his foot laterally too much.. f**k as soon as he gets stardom status he wont be called for such things heck d wade, mcgrady, and others never get called for this, ticks me off
