in Authorize.Net Goes Down on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Kudos to the Authorize team for realizing that keeping up to the minute updates via twitter will only help their reputation. I appreciate when companies do something like this and hope they can get everything sorted soon.
With that said, as long as it doesn't interfere with paypal, I'm good :)

in Branded Tweetdeck – Great Idea or Waste of Time? on danny brown - social media pr and marketing
I'm a tweetdeck user at heart and I would never switch to the mashable or techcrunch branded versions - ever. Not that I don't like those sites (I follow mashable more than techcrunch) but I just don't feel the need to have their logo and column in my tweetdeck app.
And for the "helping new twitter users" part, I have to call bullshit. I see this as a blatant advertisement for both websites and also for tweetdeck (they get the added bonus of these two gigantic websites talking about them more). I've talked to seasoned twitter users who find tweetdeck hard to understand at times and with the added stuff they've done in their new upgrade, it's even worse for them.

in Are You Keeping It Simple? on danny brown - social media pr and marketing
I agree with Ria - K.I.S.S.
great post Danny. definitely something people need to remember - a lot :) especially me. I'm building/designing/coding 4 websites for a mini network by the end of the month (hopefully) and it's a LOT of work but it's a great help to know how to keep it simple and not overthink/overdo.

Now that's impressive. But, like you say Mike, keeping the design simple lets the content and users shine - which is what it's all about at the end of the day.

in Why Twitter Mobile Apps Don’t Interest Me on danny brown - social media pr and marketing
I have a twitter app on my blackberry and rarely use it unless I'm shopping with my girlfriend and she's trying stuff on and I have free time or if we're driving somewhere and I just have that urge to stay connected.
I do like this post though and agree with the "live tweeting" which I could see as being a bit counter productive for people.

Looks like I talk to people about design and marketing the most with social media in a close third :) Sounds about right as these are the people I follow the most.
Pretty cool tag cloud. Definitely helps things become more clear and could help if you're wanting to chat with a specific group but you're not seeing it big enough :)

in louisgray.com: Does a Service Need a Business Model to Have You as a Customer? on louisgray.com
I have never stopped using a service/product just because I didn't know what their business model was. If we weren't business owners ourselves, would we even worry about that - or even know what it means? We'd more than likely just use the service and leave it at that. If it closes, it closes. I try to use products/services as if I wasn't a business owner. Less stress, headaches and number crunching that way :)

I'd hold Melrose responsible for the release, but I'd also hold Rolex responsible for not monitoring their brand and making sure they immediately issued a response to this.
Does anyone know if Owen Wilson had anything to say about it? I don't follow the celebrity gossip columns at all, so I don't know :)
Great post Danny. I'm headed over to google alerts right now to add a few more names into the list of names I need to be alerted about :)

in What Storytellers Can Do In Real Time on Chris Brogan
I like the idea behind this post - it's definitely true. You've scooped everyone that follows you while everyone else had to wait until later to write, re-write, read, re-read and publish articles. Kudo's!
The seeds idea was first done with a gas station that ran on solar power as well. Saw it on the news before. I'll see if I can find the link. But I agree, its a great idea

in Pracitcal Guide to Avoid Twitter Phishing Scams on Web Business by Ken Burbary
If you use Google Chrome, the sites been reported as a phishing site, so it doesn't show for you even if you click it. Kudos to Google Chrome for having that feature built in.
Nice round up of tips too. I was also surprised that it took so long for the phishing to occur.

in No Comment on Chris Brogan
Blog comments are definitely a big morale boost for the author - it lets them know that what they write is worthwhile to more than just themselves. They do grow over time, so if there's only zeros now, give it time - people will soon chime in. You can also try the technique that asks a question at the end of the article. Spike your readers interest in conversation.

THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who totally hates the new volcano taco. I ate it three times - just to make sure. Big fail for the marketing efforts to hype it all up.

For the record - I didn't really follow the lashing from last week. However I wanted to let you know I do not care what others say about you; I do not see a problem with that post at all. paid or unpaid.
For this post, I agree 100%. As a jack of all trades myself I struggle to label myself as one specific thing. If I say I'm a blog designer - people don't know that I'm also a writer and move on (if they're looking for a writer). If I say I'm a writer - people don't know that I'm also a blog designer and move on (if they're looking for a designer). Its hard to define yourself and as you said, I am just going to do. Being productive doesn't mean you read and write productivity articles all day - its about doing.

in Cafe-Shaped Conversations on Chris Brogan
Nice article Chris.
I agree that switching over from 100% mass media won't work. Mainly because not every consumer is wrapped up in Social Media, so they would miss out on the offerings, just like they are now. They're not worried about deals on wordpress templates, or 100 dollar hosting plans for an entire year, ect.
With social media, it works with the smaller businesses because we're crafting our efforts and being helpful first (at least I hope we all are). From there, the trust comes into play and when people trust you, your thoughts and your recommendations, it makes the selling aspect much easier.

in How Blogs Improve Customer Service AND Product Development on Chris Brogan
If your company targets anyone who could possibly be online, you should be using any possible method to connect with them and become "real" instead of a robot that they can't seem to get close to. Friendly, open and honest chatter from your company can be the deciding factor when a potential client is making the decision to hire you or not.
Great post Chris

in Young and (Un)Impressionable on The Social Media Marketing Blog
I use twitter religiously now as well as stumble upon and I know within the circles I am in on both social media networks, promoting a link/website/product only happens when you're genuinely in favor of it. So, if I tweet a link to another website, it's because I like it and think my network will like it too.
I think we're in a great time right now where reaching people involves a face to face (or internet to internet) connection between people and thus makes companies strive hard to not only connect with their customers but also put out QUALITY in order to be talked about.

in Secrets of the Annotated World on Chris Brogan
Nice post and definitely a lot of good points. I agree with Paul above me. Pidgin.im does well in syncing all of our IM clients together so we don't need to have 10 programs open at once. Now, if it could add twitter and a couple other items, it would be a god-send to me.
For the non-tech-savvy user, all of these options are going to overwhelm at first, but for those of us 'in-the-know' it's a great time to be social. I haven't used Brightkite yet, but I think I'm going to try it out soon.

in America Loves Free Stuff on The Future of Ads
Nice post. I would have to disagree with the bad though. If you're a local business and you're offering a freebie for an even like the world series, or voting or something similar, I'm sure the local news (tv, radio and newspapers) would eat it up to give out the information on it. I don't think you'll get national exposure for a local campaign, but local business is always good business :)

in How to Take Compliments on Dad-O-matic
I am not a parent of a teen (or a parent for that matter) but I saw your twitter message and came over to check this post out.
I've got a 19 year old brother who was raised completely different then I was. Same family, same house, same parents, different ways of being raised. I grew up with the ability to go outside and play, run around, get dirty and get into trouble every now and then. On the other hand, my brother had a heart defect when he was born and was sheltered. My mother would always explain to me that she "didn't want to force him out of his shell".
When you compare the two of us, it's like night and day. I am loud and grateful while he's the type to kick around rocks and stare at the floor or mumble out awkward replies that just seem a bit weird.
I think by doing things with your kids to help them become more outspoken in other areas, it should/could/would translate into being grateful as well. Just my two pennies :)
