As for Michigan it is like a sociology study in everything that can go wrong with Democratic, liberal, welfare state government. Its industries were beaten by foreign competition, its cities are decayed and crime filled, and its schools achieve at levels below most third world nations.

The point is that whoever the Democratic nominee is, he or she will win some states like Michigan. But John McCain will be our next President.

People protesting over the justifiable homicide of a dangerous criminal? Because that's what the Sean Bell case was - justifiable homicide. I don't remember seeing any demonstrations in NYC for police killed in the line of duty.

Seriously, the motorists who were inconvenienced by these black protesters should have gotten out of their cars and viciously beat the black protesters. That would've been justice.

Sen. Clinton's proposed Secretary of Poverty idea is a distraction and a waste of time. There are many federal and local government agencies that work to alleviate poverty. Most of them are inefficient, ineffective, and probably fail. But a new agency or secretary or whatever is not going to end poverty.

I understand Sen. Clinton has to pander to poor people because it is election time. Her opponents do it, too. But trying to end poverty is futile. And no government - neither Democractic nor Republican - is going to have much more success than the past ones have at dealing with poor people and human nature.

I appreciate the article's sincerity, but the argument is faulty and misguided.

There is nothing wrong with the level of profit which oil companies are earning nor the manner in which they are earning it. Oil companies provide a valuable resource and bring it to market in a very reliable fashion. They pay massive costs for exploration, development, and operations. Many times their projects operate for years before generating profit. And oil companies often risk their money in foreign countries with unstable political systems.

The oil companies are doing exactly what they are supposed to, and they are doing it perfectly. They provide a product the people need at a price the market supports. And most importantly, they generate a profit for their investors. As for the poor families you wrote about at the conclusion of your article, they can either improve their job skills to earn higher wages or else they can adjust their thermostats and driving habits to bring down their own energy costs.

The welfare reform passed in 1996 WAS NOT passed because of false stereotypes. It was passed because after decades of abuse the majority of people were sick and tired of it and their elected officials responded accordingly. "Basic welfare" needs to be stigmatized. Eligibility requirements needs to be tightened, not loosened, because America has a permanent underclass of rotters that is growing too large to support.

"The bailout bonanza" - a useful term to distract Americans that's all it is. The heart of America's problem is its permanent underclass that continues to live off the rest of us. They are the same group who defaulted on high risk mortgages and HUD mortgages because Democrats forced banks to lend to their sorry asses.

Some of Mr. Cheney's points are correct. The United States is still the top target for Islamic extremists. Mr. Cheney does not have a long history of being deceitful. He is open and honest in his views. That he ran the vice presidency the way he did - that was secretive but a lot of the issues he dealt with deserved secrecy. Openness and honesty ARE NOT typical of the Democratic party. The current regime will not successfully handle the threat of terrorism.

You're right about Asians being discriminated against. It happens in the University of California system,too. And the main reason is that Asians have the audacity to excel. That's not just a stereotype. Asian students are better prepared, work as hard or harder as others, and have a greater sense of individual responsibility.

And that's their main fault. If Asian students would start some kind of movement, or claim to be victims, or demand compensation, then maybe they could shake things up. As it is now they foolishly cling to their ideas about how hard work will bring success and their silly notions of working for the greater good of society.

Until Asians learn more about being self-centered, and claiming their benefits from the system, and band together to get the White Man's foot off their neck then Asians are just going to continue to.....

Oh enough with my irony and sarcasm. You get the point.

I don't care if Mr. Delonas, the cartoonist, was unaware of the potential offensiveness of his cartoon. He and the rest of the press are absolutely not obligated to consider the sensibilities of blacks. There is nothing special about that minority.

Freedom of speech in America extends to all of us. So I support Mr. Delonas and all the editorial staff who approved or at least permitted his chimp cartoon. It was political commentary - that's all. And Mr. Murdoch was wrong to apologize he should never give in to a small group of loud-mouths.

I don't see the use for a Hate Crime Commission. If there is going to be one, though, Louis Farrakhan has no business addressing it whatsoever. He will never be a part of bridging racial differences in Illinois nor anywhere else.

Committees or Commissions like this Hate Crimes thing are often a sham. When they do work they are usually hijacked by someone with an agenda - like promoting Louis Farrakhan. And paying someone $96K per year for 2 years to direct one that is not even up and running only enforces people's suspicion about these commissions.

A good post. Another glimpse at what the Obamas - both of them - are really like. And you won't find it on the front page of a newspaper nor on a big network show.

A couple of things piss me off about this Michelle Obama paper. First, if her thesis is considered critical writing at Princeton then the White and Asian kids at Princeton need to get their money refunded. (Blacks like Michelle Obama don't pay to go to Princeton so they're not out anything.) Second, this reminds me of the comment she made about 2 months ago - finally she's not ashamed or embarassed to be American. Still pissed about that. Last, Barack and Michelle Obama are anti-White anti-American fanatics and people still don't see the danger.

Don't let Barack convince you otherwise. Twenty years of worshipping with the mullah Rev. Wright under his fanatical mentoring. And Michelle Obama and her defining thesis - it's racist how else can you take it?

These 2 can't be allowed into the White House.

The conclusion of the article - about personal responsibility - I agree 100%. For decades America has had a very generous welfare safety net leeched off of by a hard core permanent underclass that feels it is constitutionally guaranteed the right to food stamps and other assistance at the expense of those of us who are suckers for working all our lives.

Cut food stamps and cut federal emergency funds to states so that states have to make tough decisions. Let people begin to feel a pinch and they'll think before they act. They can learn to behave more responsibly with the right motivation.

A fellow commenter made a clever observation above. Some firms are probably just using the current climate as an excuse to make cutbacks they have long wanted to make. Now they feel they can get away with it. I agree with that. These firms are probably telling laid-off workers to blame Rush Limbaugh, too.

This shuffling of troops Obama is doing is not good. How effective are worn out troops from Iraq going to be in Afghanistan? They were asked to do too much in Iraq and now they're being sent into Afghanistan. Obama does not have the mental capacity to understand things like mission and duty and timelines he is just an instant gratification type. America's military is really being USED. It's a shame.

The most valuable thing any of us can have in times like these - a valid passport.

Every day I feel more and more like it's time to walk out on this country. I have to write the Treasury Department a check in 2 weeks. I don't want to do it. It's not that I am against paying my taxes, it's just I'm against wasting my money. I don't want my taxes to help pay for a megalomaniac's regime.

Never thought America would start nationalizing industries like banking, finance, insurance, and now auto. What's next? Wal Mart? Sure they're profitable - hey even more of an incentive for Obama to seize them. They could re-do that smiley face icon that lowers prices; change it to Obama's face. Or Joe Biden's face.

I don't believe this story. Really sounds ridiculous to think that a group of men would think they could attack a world leader with a knife. It must be some Obama plot to get himself more press coverage.

Obama loves to villify businesses and individuals that make money. And he loves to spend money. This change to tax law he wants to make looks like a win-win for him. The rest of us will lose though.

Anything Obama says about complicated tax code or fairness is just bullcrap. Obama's ideal American is one that is 100% dependent on welfare - and those people don't pay income tax or capital gains tax, etc. The rest of us who dare work for ourselves or think for ourselves are going to have to pay pay pay for Obama's vision of what America should be.

Don't pay taxes. It's the most patriotic, Christian thing one can do right now.
