in It’s Not You It’s Me - My Goodbye To Facebook Friends on The Tubbynerd
Ed, I agree with pretty much all of what you said. Frankly, it excites me that so many marketers haven't "gotten" Facebook yet. (I hope they never do! ;)

But, for you personally, wouldn't it be easier to just set yourself up a second account. A personal account where you only add your true friends. Seems like a waste of time to sit there going through 5000 "friends" to decide which ones you really want to hear from and which you don't.

And, it eliminates the potential you spoke about of alienating any of your fans.

in Follow You - Follow Me Revisited on The Tubbynerd
The only real problem I see with that is that if someone tweets @ you, and you DM them back, they cannot DM in reply if you are not following them. Limitation of Twitter's service. Not that big of a deal, though, and you could just follow everyone you're going to DM so they can reply. But, yea, once you get to a certain point you start getting people spontaneously following you, including a lot of internet marketing spammers who you wouldn't want to follow anyway because all they post is spam links to their latest offers. I'm only following about half of those who follow me and it is impossible to keep up with that pace, so I do use some tools such as subscribing to feeds for specific searches in my reader. It's not foolproof, but we can't all be Chris Brogan.

in Even During a Recession, Small Businesses Still Should Consider Macbooks on Technosailor
I didn't know you were a fanboy. When did that happen?

in My quick review of Fusion on BijanBlog
I don't think Macs are so much of a preference as they are a fashion statement. You don't see bloggers posting about how they use a Windows computer so much, because we do it just because it's productive, it's a tool we use to get things done.

bijan Hmmm. Not sure I agree.

Design is superior with macs imho

But I think it's more than fashion.

i just think they work better.

It's easier to say that bulletin boards should have cool new features than it is to effectively do something about it. As the owner of several popular bulletin boards, one thing I've learned is that updating user interfaces, adding cool new webtwopointohey features, and all that doesn't mean a thing if nobody uses it, or worse if the members hate it. Another problem that bulletin board sites face is finding the funding to be able to do remarkable things such as you're suggesting.

bijan I love message boards but the community is going to want to do more stuff together

For example take a look at gamerdna.com

That started off as a message board. The community decides what games to play and when to schedule raids on WoW and other MMORPGs

Why can't users on dpreview and fb canon groups all chat or browse the web at the same time. That's just one example.

in Nearly Half of Americans Get News from the Web on Marketing Pilgrim
You know who else is out of touch? The advertisers who still spend big bucks putting ads on the TV news, on the radio, and in the newspapers. Why the heck are they spending 90% of their ad budget on dead media when they could be rocking by putting that money into the web?

in Why Your Google Reputation Can Hurt Your Career on Marketing Pilgrim
Well, that's an amusing story about Soney Bonoi and his friends Sergey and Larry. But, the least believable part of the story is not that Sergey could try to get a hot teen up to his hotel room, but that there is such a thing as a sixteen year old virgin in Beverly Hills. :D

Hey Andy, I'm going to announce my reputation sabotage consultancy soon. Remember that bully that pushed you in Jr. High? The mean mid-level manager at your first job out of college? The guy who cut you off on your way to work this morning? A few strategic placements of information can sabotage his career or personal life. Coming soon, to a website near you.

/ps, in case you can't tell, I'm joking.

When you say "Goin' Courting?" perhaps you mean going to court? As in, it will be interesting to see how the lawsuit comes out?

in Campaign to Reduce Wikipedia’s PageRank to Zero on Marketing Pilgrim
Well, if Wikipedia is stealing content, they deserve a DMCA notice. A citation is a citation whether it's nofollowed or not.

Don't I deserve lots of links from your blog for all the witty comments I leave for you? :D

in Campaign to Reduce Wikipedia’s PageRank to Zero on Marketing Pilgrim
I doubt it discourages many people from contributing to Wikipedia. It's a rather myopic point of view. Only SEOs even think in those terms. And, most SEOs who were submitting their links to Wikipedia are still out there submitting massive numbers of links.

lol, yea. That's actually one of the things I really like about Paypal, I can set up the subscription and then not worry about invoicing/collecting next month. Very useful especially when the numbers are small.

in Google, Google, Google on Marketing Pilgrim
Google steals publisher's content by proxy. By allowing anyone to pub Adsense on any site, they are responsible. Banning the Googlebot isn't going to help.

in Why Google’s Brand is Hurting their Offline Expansion Plans on Marketing Pilgrim
Well, they just need to figure out how to apply click-fraud techniques to their areas like the successful Adsense publishers are doing, that's how they can be successful with Google's business model.

in How a Great Online Reputation Can Win You a Job on Marketing Pilgrim
This is interesting for me, and I agree wholeheartedly. I've been looking for a startup to join (kinda like looking for a job, lol), and have had people ask me about things I've written that they found while searching about me.

I'd be somewhat wary of getting involved with people who weren't savvy enough to at the very least do a Google search on a person they're going to be doing business with, partnering with, or hiring.

Thanks for the clarification. Does that mean that if someone sits there refreshing the screen, it's a nickel each time they hit the refresh button?

When you say the "cost is $0.05/impression" do you mean that the cost is five cents per click?
