I don't want to see the light, I'm not worthy :)
Seriously, I'm probably going down the path you've gone down eventually.
I was Windows, I switched to Mac, then to Windows due to compatibility issues with clients. Compatibility is not the issue it was 10 years ago . . .

in Log Into Twitter And Change Your Password on Chris Brogan
Remember passwords are like toothbrushes.
They should be changed often and never shared.
Of you could say they are like underware :)

Great advice with what's going on.
Then again, no one will every guess my Twitter (and everything else) password of "redsox"
Errr, that's a joke folks!
Just go change it, preferably to a non dictionary word!

in Why Your Company Needs a Blogging Policy on thevirtualhandshake
And that's why policy is a good thing, assuming it's short and written in plain language, not pseudo-legalese.
Hard to imagine me saying this, as I'm almost a pseudo-anarchist even though I'm preparing to speak to the US Air Force on "policy" tomorrow.

Chris,
I knew it wasn't your b'day -- was pretty sure.
I get birthday thanks Aug 1 -- not mine also.
Protect your birthday, social if a US person, and never sell your passport in the middle east (yes, I had an offer once!)
PS: The FBI recommends you keep your birthday private too.

in Promoting Your Media on Chris Brogan
I came via Twitter, but it just made me come faster -- i would have come here eventually.
I always add new blogs to blog directories to get some links to them quickly, so the search engines find them and are happy.
Don't think anyone gets more than negligible traffic from blog directories -- do you use them to look up blog? I may have once or twice.

in Challenges of Social Media Types in the Workplace on Chris Brogan
Little known fact is that I'm often the guy writing those security policies that the firewall people and other security people need to follow.
It all boils down to a reasonable acceptable use policy, and I assure you that mine are very reasonable and the firewall and other rules that flow from them.
No, not universal access to everything for everyone, but something very reasonable that's based on sound business principles and risk management. And yeah, some people can get to just about anything, probably most of the people reading this post.

in Idiocy and blogging on Scobleizer
Hmmm, Robert, I read "The Idiot" by Dostoevsky, and you're no Prince Mishkin (the idiot himself).
Wait a minute, now I'm being an idiot! In Dostoevsky's time, "idiot" referred to someone with epilepsy, not someone ranting senselessly like me now :)
No fear of being occassionly wrong is a wonderful thing, which means I agree!

Bummed I didn't make it. Considered signing up, "just in case," but decided that was very uncool.
I won't signup unless I'm pretty sure I'll be there!
Now conversely, if I pay a fee, I (just me) feel less likely to have committed to attend.
Yes, it's just money, but I can fritter away mine, NOT others.
I think a modest fee is something organizers should have the ability to consider!

Scott,
I think question is "What would you hire her for," as well as "How would she dress?"
I've seen worse on MySpace, but not while posting as part of your jobsearch!!

in Why Create Personal Media on Chris Brogan
Once upon a time, years ago, when I occasionally shaved my head to help force my clients to think outside their corporate image, a very conservative client asked me point blank "why do you shave your head?"
I said, "because I'm a Head Shaver! -- and it works."
Why do I blog? Because I'm a blogger, and it works. It helps me reach my goals -- certainly BOTH business AND personal.

in Social Networks Are Not Personal on Instigator Blog
Ben,
As I always stress, and remind and remind and remind, the Internet is PUBLIC.
Assume anything can and will be found. Your personality should certainly show through, but not everything in our lives needs nor should be public.
Remember that whether you are writing something personal, professional, or other, everybody will be able to see it: your wife, potential business partner, boss, client, green grocer, criminals and big brother.

in Personal Branding on Chris Brogan
Hmmmm, if I decided to become an Elvis, or maybe even a Seth Godin, impersonator, what would that say about my brand . . . :)
Seriously though, great post. Personal branding is much more than this nonsense about "be authentic," "just be yourself," etc. Yes, that's important, but there's more as you mention.
If I was 100% purely and totally authentic, I'd blog, speak, publicly disseminate info about, and otherwise annoy people with stuff like: great food, biking, saltwater flyfishing, wine, my kids bowel movements, and more. ALL my interests, ALL the time.
But focus matters, as do many other things

Dude, a better title would have been "Blog Posts Should be About One Thing and I'm Getting a Haircut today." Then both people interested in good blog posts, and the style and hair-conscious would have read this!
No, seriously, I agree. Besides, my title would have driven away the bald blog contingent (bbc).
