The other thing Suzuki can't touch is brand. MINI owns the 'have fun driving' space, and I don't think Suzuki can crack that.
Also, every time I see that spot I wonder why *wouldn't* they include the cape and lightning bolt sticker? I think they missed a big opportunity to stand out. At least say it's sold separately and sell them through the dealerships... give people something to talk about.

in Power Your Presentation Graphics on Chris Brogan
Wow, that's a really good presentation. Lots of energy and emotion.
Most decks that are light on text and posted online lose the impact of the live presentation and don't provide enough context or content to express the core messaging, but this one communicates everything clearly and quickly.
Thanks for sharing!

I just (nervously) upgraded and it all went well. It stinks that you didn't have the same experience... 2.6 is a nice update!

in How Does the Internet Impact Consumer Behavior on Chris Brogan
I saw this post immediately after reading, "The End of Advertising, and Why We Should Celebrate." — funny how things come together.
As far as trustworthiness, I think this is where building a personal brand becomes important. Amazon enables this in a sense by allowing you to easily discover other products someone has reviewed. If a product review sounds too corporate and it's the only review on their profile, would you trust that person? Maybe Amazon needs a reviewer trust meter....

in Writing Email That Gets Answered on Chris Brogan
I agree with some of the early comments that subject lines are key. I work at a large-ish company, so most of my e-mail is internal, and I'm surprised by the number of messages I get with no subject. Makes searches months later more fun.
Mike Davidson came up with a good M lo-fi solution; treat e-mail responses like text message and limit them to five sentences.

in The Mysterious City on the martini shaker*
Funny... I had a conversation with my Grandma over the holidays about this kind of thing. In the town where I grew up (central Kansas), rumors would occasionally surface about an "underground Main Street", replete with sidewalks, storefronts, etc. I remembered seeing stairs (which are gone now) leading below street level on side streets along Main Street, which would lend credence to those rumors.
Turns out, they were true (at least partially). The underground network of "storefronts" were originally built to store coal for heating and the stairs presumably served as easy access points, although I suspect there was a larger underground delivery network.
This could be the kind of the thing the video is referencing...

in “Camping out” for a Wii in May on the martini shaker*
I had the same problem with supply & demand; my wife decided to buy me a Wii as a gift in March, but they've been *impossible* to find. We looked everywhere, until about a week and a half ago, I went to Wal-Mart for a midnight medicine run, saw one box on the shelf and snatched it up. Score one for Karma.
Whether they're throttling production or not, I don't think it will hurt their sales... it's only building the buzz. My theory is they fell short on their forecasting. With all the game systems competing for shelf space this Christmas, maybe they were holding back a little and things went the other way.
Now that I have mine, I love it (and my wife loves it more); the graphics won't knock your socks off, but the interaction is phenomenal.
Jeremy, I sent my Wiis over to mingle... see you in the bowling alley. I will say, adding friends isn't nearly as intuitive as playing games. But that's my only (weakish) knock.

in Does Sprint get the iPhone’s impact? on the martini shaker*
It sounds like they're trying to make excuses for themselves. Anyone (especially mobile carriers) who thinks they won't feel the the impact of the iPhone is delusional.
Maybe they should try a Pepsi challenge; hand customers a 4 gig iPhone and a decked out top of the line Samsung and see which they prefer.
One just has to look at the trash heap of mp3 players that tout more features and a better experience -- all crushed by the iPod. The same scenario will apply to phones.
