in Why it's time to break out of Twitter (Scripting News) on Scripting News
I think suggesting people is a good way to go but with a few tweaks. Possibly let people type in keywords that interest them and then match it to say a users bio or terms commonly used by that person or something to that effect. That way people will follow those that interest them and actually get engaged with twitter. Not just receive updates from people who will never engage them anyways. (Isn't that what Television is all about;it's asymmetrical).

Also the number of followers a person already has should have no bearing on what names get suggested; should be completely about the contents of the users twitter stream. That way anyone using twitter has a fair shot of being suggested simply by adding value based around a certain set of terms.

The 99.98% of early adopters being left out are the ones with the skills and knowledge to build something better. Sadly, I can see twitter being like blogger. It started the blogging movement made it incredibly popular but nobody who is anybody uses it now...

We'll all be on individually hosted Twitpress platforms of some kind. Twitter will be filled with spammy accounts that make 5-10 updates and never return kinda like blogger. Sigh.

in Google’s Double-talk Practically Guarantees It Will Acquire Twitter on Marketing Pilgrim
Anything is possible but Mr. Williams did sell his Blogger to Twitter so there is already a connection and business done in their past. It also kinda makes sense that they would a) want to acquire it and b) play it down if they were... Who knows but VC's will only feed a company that isn't earning anything for so long before it becomes profitable or gets bought out by some behemoth ala facebook style.

Who knows but it's definitely quite possible.

I think this is a really good idea and Dan is doing some pretty awesome things. No better place then here to test a new format.

Best of luck.

Uber lame!! I quit using it because that's juts too much considering most DM is spam anyways.

in louisgray.com: Twitter: Is There Room For Anyone Else? on louisgray.com
I think Plurk will be around for a while. It just needs to start sending notifications if you get a single DM. Sending them when you're in a group one would be annoying but if someone sends one directly to you and you don't reply it looks like you aren't interested. This isn't good for personal relationships and once they fix that or if they do I think more people will start taking it seriously. I love the threaded conversation aspect of it.

And to think that is just American users and excludes many who only use mobile. Go Twitter.

in Scoble Interviews me about The Instant Web on FastCompanyTV on Loic Le Meur
Great interview I'm a fan of "instant web" as you call it. I do think in the future people (everyone; not just geeks) will use many of these networks as regularly as a telephone and think nothing of it.

in 2008/12/19/how-to-win-twitter-friends/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Great piece. Good tips for sure.

I think your missing something though. Even many of the people you mentioned here in this bloggery do something you didn't allude to. They socialize by initiating new connections.

Don't be scared to add people. It's like "introducing yourself" shaking someones hand at a cocktail party. (After all isn't Twitter the biggest party in town that never closes?) You may not like the setting (I do) but you go because it's where the "party is at" or "Where you meet new people".

Unless you write some influential blog, are a media personality type and already are well known go meet people. How can someone even possibly care what you have to say if they have NO CLUE WHATSOEVER YOU EVEN EXIST?

Give the virtual hand shake whenever you can just like you should give a real hand shake to people you meet in real life whenever you can...

Thought I'd throw that in there. ;)

in Link love, Google and spammers on Jim's Marketing Blog
Another reason why link love isn't so great from comments is that well. If there are 200 comments with prolly 5-10 outbound links on sidebar that is 200+ outbound links from 1 solitary page. Not much love at all to go around. Spammers want that one post that is bookmarked to heck has a high PR and few comments.

That being said traffic is the name of the game :D

Randy Same concept, I believe.

Why wouldn't you take part in it? You never know the true reasons why someone criticizes someone else. I saw nothing wrong and if anything was envious I didn't get one. You disclosed it; gave something away to members seems like a win win to me.

Good post Samir; I'd definitely pay for additional features if it were "reasonable". I'd like stats on my profile and another sig link and am open for any suggestions Twitter deems beneficial / productive.

in Eight tantalizing Twitter tips on IT Business
When I'm looking for new posts to read I always go to twitter first. The engines pick up everything and whatever is "best optimized" everything on twitter was manually entered for most part (besides auto RSS) so I find great stuff there.

in 2008/12/03/amazon-iphone/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I think that's a brilliant idea. I read somewhere not to long ago something that shocked me. Most consumers do their research online then buy the item in a local store. Seemed backwards to me. I think this will be incredibly popular. I for one only buy retail when it's an emergency. If it's anything I can live without for 3-5 days I order online.

Times are changing and most brick and mortar stores have had their day of ripping us off with over inflated prices. There will always be some that exclusively go to retail shops when buying but I believe that number will continue to decrease at an accelerated rate.

Hopefully retail chains will smarten up and reduce costs where possible to deliver more value to the customers; if not perish. I'm cool with it ether way.

I've seen this service all over twitter. My question is if I sign up will it automatically send a message into my timeline like the ones I'm seeing everywhere?

Cool service and once a few more bloggeries are added I'll be adding it to the directory.

All the best,
Rob

It all depends on what you are looking for as well. I like twitter because I meet new people, network and expose my forum to more bloggers.

As you mentioned what's really in it for Seth?

in Four Books About Changing the World- Videoblog on Chris Brogan
Hey Chris,

Put enough text so the engines pick it up. Put the rest on video. Reading long bloggeries takes time and effort. I just listened to this while reformatting another PC.

Much preferred.

Re Smartphone: Leave it at home for your friends sake. Chances are one of them who followed all the rules above and is having a great time doesn't appreciate you snapping a photo of them while they are on auto pilot and publishing it places because it's "funny". It's not. Don't be that guy who brings the camera and captures moments those in the moments didn't want captured... Ya know!?!?! ;)
