in Give Me The Current Date Please on Eddie Awad’s Blog
The should have called it CLIENT_DATE it's the date where the Client operates :-)

timestamps has another disadvanatge if you import (imp) data on a table with a timestamp, it's not loded bulk but row per row. that's what i experienced on 10.2;

if a sysdate should be used or not could be depend on businesss rules. For example using ebay a sysdate should used to store your transaction to be able to compare it against other competitiors

cheers

in Top 10 Ways to Know Your Software Project is Doomed on Eddie Awad’s Blog

Ohh!
Iike this point very much : The last book you read: Oracle 8i A Beginner’s Guide.

it helps not to run into new errorful features!!
And you are compatible to almost all database releases!!! :-)

And : Developers are not responsible for any testing

The opposite is dangerous too. If the future user group of the system does not test and only developers do.

in Self Documenting Code is Not Enough on Eddie Awad’s Blog

Hi,
i think it's a question of the scope; You need documenation outside of the code to get the whole picture and to be able to deliver your business rules/requirements to others.
In more detail the commented code tells you how the aspects of the Business requirements are implemented. Two different focus of ducumentation.

in NO_DATA_FOUND Gotcha on Eddie Awad’s Blog

Raising NO_DATA_FOUND on subscription error. It seems the developers were not busy enough to create an own out_of_bound exception for it

in Do You Have These Symptoms? on Eddie Awad’s Blog

never forget the good site of lazyness;
a lazy dba does not manually repeat a way again and again. He will find a way to automate it.

One major reason i create solid structured reliable code is that i am to lazy walking throug spaghetty code.

Karl
very lazy dba and database architect.

in Bart’s Punishment For Asking Dumb Questions on Eddie Awad’s Blog

It's good to look at the documentation but the weak point of it is to find for example special snytax for local indexes or even worse what's the default if i create an index on a partitioned table? is it LOCAL or GLOBAL?
i searched too long for this important point (looked at the user_ind_partitions to find the answer);

LOOK at he create table clause it's remembers me on a SQL statement with > 100 NESTED LOOPS in the plan.

hard to find the right stuff.

but I still like to search in the manual specially the 10.2 search ist great.

in Give Me One Minute And I’ll Tell You If You Are Liberal Or Conservative on Eddie Awad’s Blog

I do not use ANSI Joins; still keeping the oracle syntax of joins.
We have a UNION constellation in germany now. the lefts and the rights are doing their job together. So this is not a social effect;-)

Interesting i played with the slr stuff. even when i took 'slr digital 9-11megapixel $900-$1300 always canon EOS 350 was on top and not my fvaourite NIKON D80. Playing with these paramters then lead me to a never seen google message :

'We're sorry...

Very interesting google hacking tips!! ;-)
