nice raising awareness post david, and adriana you've handled the unfortunate situation w/ class...

as for the "goowy team" - (Alex, Gary, Jeremy and Sashi) - first, nice lack of transparency - you blew it initially by defaulting to an "opt-in invite all your contacts spam model" which seems strategically clueless, but then ya'll made the classic mistake of claiming "user error" instead of taking the blame yourselves - not a good way to rebound folks, but obviously based on your about page you've all been a part of a dot-bomb before - so you know the drill, that sound you hear is the air rapidly leaving your bubble ;)

but i think his wife should podcast the games (if allowed) - it needs to be thought of as additional content - not the same as the filtered & edited version that makes it to the 57" screen (playable on ipod video, psp, pc/mac whatever) - behind the scenes, interviews w/ average atheletes, local atheletes, niche content - the stuff huge advertisers don't pony up the big bucks for but is sure to have communities of interest - gotta think outside the tube...

i'm actually trying to advocate another option - the extreme geek...

able to snowboard, surf, skate, mountian bike - basically stay active and outdoors while still maintaining good grades and able to get their geek on @ a moments notice...

i know sounds revolutionary but i'll give it a try w/ my two petri-dishes ;)

the both know the answer = 42 so were off to a good start...

concur dave, i'm constantly shocked by some in academia who are firmly stuck in the past - "the internet is all bad" mindset and yet don't have a clue when it comes to the upside potential of very simply things online offers such as e-learning and exposure to global multi-cultural issues...

however, no one should rely on a school system to educate their kids - that's our job as parents, and frankly the generation that our kids fall in is so much more aware of the varying aspects of who, what and how online than our generation (as a whole) is - ask any teenager how they can tell the difference between a "real" online persona and a "fake - creepy - troll" persona - most will laugh and tell you how obvious one is from the other...

we are at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to online community progression - the youth of today are growing up owning it and will leave us in the dust - that's a good thing especially for the progression of things such as tolerance and awareness, the village shrinks positively onward generation by generation and the network has a lot to do w/ it ;)

as for andrew keen - troll's should be ignored at all cost, any kid will tell you that...

had the same reaction when i first read in via http://nytimesriver.com and then again when dave winer posted about it - sad statement of the environment there, though to be factual, it has always been that way, nothing new or recent - and one of the reasons i've personally avoided moving there throughout my career, even though i've had many offers - i like visiting it and most companies i've been associated w/ there have been innovative and positive in nature, but not the sort of place to live and raise a family - imho of course...

hey chris, feel ya sort of - i "own" 3 cars but none of them are actually "mine" - for i am a train rider ;)

my wife has a honda pilot, and both my boys have honda cr-v's - sense a trend, we like honda - have found them to be safe, economical and low maintenance so far...

we drive them all over in any conditions including through new england's very snowy winters - plus we schlep around our 110lb lab too...

i think it's because creative projects (art, code, events, whatever...) tend to flow iteratively w/ differing velocities, thus your able to start them at different times, stack them one on top of the other, yet be performing different aspects of each from a timeline perspective - so for example, while deciding on the concept for one, building another, testing another and productionalizing another (really simplifying the whole concept-to-production flow) - it maximizes the person or team doing the multiple projects of course - but thats ok, multitasking is in itself an artform...

not bad chris - would definitely work for those w/ lots of flexibility and diversity in their tasks...

those of us that spend our days going from one meeting to another sandwiched around con-calls sometimes don't schedule enough "desktime" to actually get "real" work done - your model would work well for those few hour blocks that serve that purpose...

however, when doing heads-down technical stuff, sometimes it takes 20 minutes just to get your head into a position of understanding - to then take a break would cause an interruption in comprehension that would take time to get back to - anybody whose ever worked at the root level of development or architecture will grok this - but not every system is right for every situation...

i'll try your idea during my next scheduled "desktime" - i think i have one or two next month ;)

i love that you share posts like this w/ your wealth of friends - in fact i'd credit you (ok among some others) w/ blurring the line between meatspace and online friendships - your social media/networking chi is strong & always getting stronger, you work very hard at it too - many know of chris brogan & count him as a trusted friend and yet so many haven't met him in person yet but hope to one day (i'm one of them) - that is a gift my friend, one you should be very proud of - so again, enjoy your bday my friend :)

hey robert - my take on dave potentially giving up his blog is that he'll be lonely - he uses his blog the way most folks talk to their neighbors, co-workers and friends - he is a nomadic soul, so the blog ends up being his way of staying in touch and connected...
