in Writing for Good: Email Our Military on PurpleCar
I was asked to come and post some thoughts here. PurpleCar, I hope I do not say anything that will offend you, as I am very thankful that you brought this entire subject to light.

For anyone to group the users of Twitter into an exclusive group of anything other than technology users is simply absurd. Users of Twitter come from all over the world, in fact, I would guess that those of us here in the US are a minority in the Twitterverse as a whole.

For any American to say that we, as a country, are against the TROOPS, cannot be an American. For YEARS I have spread across the internet that we are not in the 1970s and that this is not Vietnam. I am so far against this war that it isn't even funny. I despise the current president of the United States and blame him and his staff for the alleged WMDs that sent us into Iraq. There is not one single soldier I do not support. I support and love the soldiers from each and every war this country has ever been in.

Those accused and convicted of crimes RE Abu Graib (I know I spelled that wrong), love 'em and support 'em. The president that will not reject the use of waterboarding? Despise him.

Some of the soldiers, including one I am related to, feel that the war is good and justified. They say that the people in Iraq are genuinely happy that we are there. Some of the soldiers, such as those I see on the news and other places, feel that being in Iraq is wrong, just as I do. Regardless of the position of these men and women, fighting the war is their job, just like my job is supporting an office to ensure it runs smoothly. We don't always like our jobs, but we do them. People do not hate us because we do our jobs - Let me rephrase that - people worth listening to do not hate us because of our jobs.

Americans support their soldiers, because without them there would be no America. Many of us who are so involved in the technology world and active on Twitter were too young to be involved with Vietnam. We heard the stories of how American soldiers were spit upon and degraded horribly. We are not the generations responsible for such actions.

As I sit here and wonder if there is anything further I should say on this subject, I come to realize that it is not just Generation X and Generation Y that are unconditionally supporting our troops and have ignored the craziness of what was the Vietnam war.... Gee, don't we have a Vietnam Vet running for President?

Since the late 1980s, I have not met one person in this country who did not support our troops. I was also greatly against Desert Storm, for reasons that are not important here, but I always, ALWAYS supported our troops.

in What do Avatars Mean to Us on Chris Brogan
Seems I am of a minority here. I use a picture I found somewhere years ago of a flying hawk. The hawk represents my surname (Hawk) and my screen name (Hawksdomain). There is one place you will find a real picture of me as an avatar, Linked In. I didn't feel it was appropriate to use the hawk there. But that photo is several years (and several hair colors) ago.

Just as I have come to know Muhammad Saleem by the spade, Shana Albert by her photo, and many others, I feel that I have used the flying hawk enough to have it mean something to the online social community.

Honestly, I think I would like to change my avatar, but to what I am not sure. I did change a few of my more frequented communities to a Jayhawk during the end of March Madness and the NCAA Basketball Championship, but that was just to show my support.

I am too shy in my offline life to ever imagine that I could post an actual photo of ME all across the internet. The thought just scares me to death. As you can tell by this comment alone, I have no problem speaking my mind when I "hide" behind the photo of the flying hawk. I've even become more comfortable with using my real name online. That was a major step for me!

So, for those of you who may really not be impressed by those who do not use photos of themselves, please consider that there may be a lot more behind their chosen image.

Happy Saturday!! :)

I love how you haven't actually criticized, but have left it open for each person to read what they will into it... Personally, I think that those who are not active in as many different social networks (ie the kids and people who do FB just for fun) as many of us who have such a selection as Chris does in his sidebar to the right, will continue with FB, but I do not see it lasting very much longer with those who are interested in all social networking sites.

in AT&T Can Kiss My Ass! on Blog | Adam Chernow: Director, Editor, Geek, and Website Builder
I feel your pain. I have hated AT&T for several years now. It seems that when you cancel your long distance with them you should also specifically cancel your calling card or they will charge you $1 per month and then will threaten you with a collections agency if you refuse to pay that $1 after you get the bill.

In one day, I received 3 calls from AT&T to switch my service back. Needless to say, the third telemarketer did not get a happy person on the phone.

in Twitter is awesome - 600 Visitors and 30 new subscribers in 2 days! Also on Googling yourself…. on There's a Blog in my Soup!
Twitter is a very awesome service. I've used it more to network than to pimp my blog, because I just don't have time to be a regular blogger right now. I am curious, how you came to be following me.... I never would have found your blog without returning the follow, and it does look as tho you have quite a bit more blogging authority than I do, so how did you find me and why did you want to follow me?? :)

OK, once you have Facebook & Tumblr added, I can definitely see this being better than Ping.fm, but I am still wanting something that can give me responses like Twhirl, but from more than just Twitter - I guess I'm really just thinking of something that will add Pownce replies...... I would love an app like Twhirl for FriendFeed.... OK, sorry, this has turned from a comment to a beg for more software!

I have installed it, but just wanna ask, what does the max posts mean? Surely you won't shut us down after 10 - 20 posts!! :)

in Jeff Pulver Launches PrimeTimeRewind on Chris Brogan
I happened across PrimeTimeRewind earlier in the month and joined right away. I love the concept, and by being a member, I have all my favorite shows right there for me. Not always being able to catch a show when the network airs it is a part of life for many of us, I am very excited about this site! I also want to comment that although some are wanting to compare this to Hulu, there is no comparison. Hulu offers older shows as well as SOME current shows, but not to the extend that PrimeTimeRewind does! :)

in Calacanis is right: startups can’t afford slackers on Scobleizer
As an administrative support professional working in the Midwest, I have to agree with Jason, Mike, and Robert. This is how business works in America. I may get a lot of downtime at my job, but I am so on top of my job that my boss knows he's lucky I don't leave for him to try to find someone half as capable as I am. Yet the actual employees of the company work like dogs. I've had my share of 12+ hour days and I will do them again, whenever I am needed. I love what I do, I love even more that I'm not doing it for AT&T, Microsoft, Walmart, or any other huge company. Participating in the building of a company is half the fun of working hard and being good at what you do.
