I thought that would be a fad, but it has stayed longer than I thought.  The article about women prefering caught my eye, being a woman.  The reasoning behind that could be that technology has become more of a staple of having money than diamonds.  Most people can get a diamond, but not everyone can get the latest and maybe not so greatest depending on the bugs, tech that's out.  Also, women seem to accesorize more with their tech than they do with their jewelry.  Just what I have seen with that.
