I can't find any redmine0.8.4/config/mongrel_cluster.yml in redmine folder for your command:
ln -s /server/root/redmine/config/mongrel_cluster.yml /etc/mongrel_cluster/redmine.yml

Forgot to say I used mongrel_cluster (http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/mongrel_clust...)
