in City sued after woman dies of overdose in jail on Nashua Telegraph
I too think that if anyone thinks this is a ploy to get money you guys should think again this family has suffered greatly because of the tragedy and I know that for a fact my daughter wrote this message and I am proud to say that she is my daughter. She knows what is right and doesn't have any problems telling all of you people that this family lost their house over this!!!! so don't think that they are just looking for money they are not that kind of family they are just looking for a change.

This comment is for Menzjames--
I am appalled at your complete iggnorance pertaining to this case. It is obvious that you have not read any of the articles, or the interview that Mrs. Brown and her father shared with the telegraph shortly after the death of Catherine Wade. I have personally not met this family, but I have followed it from day 1. During the interview Maureen stated to Stephanie Hooper that Catherine lived in chronic pain, because she had severe osteoparosis (?), and her bones were so brittle that she had the bones of a woman in her 90's. Regardless of her physical health I remember very CLEARLY her sister Maureen talking about Catherine also suffering from disassociative disorder (I am not a therapist but I believe this is when a person goes into a state of pschycosis, very similar to alzhiemer's disease). Being a mother, an RN, and apparently very close to her family (according to the comment by "Me") I remember feeling so sad for this family who had (at that time) just buried Catherine's mother. I am assuming that you, menzjames either live in a cave, or you are not very intelligent. It is very unfortunate but a FACT, that there are some people in this society that must live on opiates just to get out of bed. It is even more unfortunate that the majority of these people become opiate dependent. When you wrote your comment bashing Mrs.Brown & Maria Jackson did it ever cross your mind that maybe there was a reason why this woman took medication, or were you just so judgemental to catorgorize these individuals as just looking for a huge "paycheck", as you worded it. I happened to be in court the day of Maria Jackson's trial, because court hearing's are open to the public.
I sat there that chilly morning watching Maureen stand before the judge, with the most overwhelming amount of PAIN written all over her face explaining to the judge that she is a mother of 7 children, a wonderful husband, in whom she draw's her strength from on a daily basis, and her elderly father that has a serious heart condition, but none the less, he was her best friend and hero. She continued to tell the judge that she was a well educated woman, with a degree in psychology and I believe an RN also. I remember her talking about being employed at Concord Hospital, but had recently left her job to be a stay home mom for her children that were having a very difficult time trying to deal with all thier losses. I believe she told the judge that her sister resided with her and her family for several months before moving to Nashua. I do remember clearly that she spoke of her and her husband being sober, and Catherine was the best she could recall in years. At that point Maureen's husband, Michael stated that Catherine had been drug FREE for 10 months.
As I stated above, your lack of intelligence blows me away. If you knew anything about NH state laws you would KNOW that parents and siblings that bring forth wrongful death suits are NOT entitled to any monatary settlements or court ordered judgments, only the children of the deceased. As I already said, I watched this woman stand before the judge and explain in detail that she understood Maria Jackson's actions were illegal and obviously fatal. In spite of those facts she couldn't see the point of sending her to jail. Maria apparently has 2 young children and was a widow, and Maureen couldn't see the point of tearing apart another family. Maureen made sure the judge knew how she felt about Maria giving her sister the drugs (whatever they were), and repeated that she understood that those actions were not only illegal, but in this case fatal. Maureen just explained over and over to the judge that Maria did not hold a gun to Catherine's head until she took them, it was the choice of her sister and enough families had been ruined and, most important enough children have been traumatized for life. Even though I didn't get the opportunity to have met Maureen that day, I often think of her, and the courage and strength it took for her to stand in front of a Judge, the prosecuter, and a room full of reporters and the general public (shaking). I hope she will read this and know that thier are some empathic people out here that have the upmost respect and admiration for her and her strength. What I witnessed that day, was a woman looking for an apology from the NPD, and an explanation for why her only sister was deceased in her cell for over 3 hours, apparently in her own vomit. Those are her allegations, and she stated them in open court as well as being quoted in the telegraph (again, this has not been proven in court, and this apparently is the opinion of Maureen. After watching Maureen speak that day in court, she doesn't seem like the type of person to state such serious "false" comments. Again, I will state my point of how arrogant I think you are and exactly how sick your statement made me. And just for your information, if the NPD had any intention's of settling this case out of court it would have been done by now, and papers would have never been filed with the courts.
Maureen, if you should should ever come across my comment I wish you the best and I am truly sorry for your losses. You seem like a very strong woman, and I was so impressed with your strength and honesty. Don't lose your faith or your fight. Justice will prevail. And when coming across losers like this, don't even give them the time of day, they are SO not worth it! Good luck and may God Bless you and your family.

I apologize that I don't know the exacts as to how a "civil judgement" works. People I associate with and myself have never filed a frivolous lawsuit before. I will be the 1st to admit I am not up to date on my civil law. I do know criminal law however, and I know that dispensing drugs (prescription or illegal) to someone causing them death is a CRIME. I also know that taking drugs that are not prescribed to you or are simply illegal is a CRIME. I also know that if a person abuses drugs for a long period of time their heart is likely to give out. It is not the NPD's fault that this person had a default warrant, was medically cleared at a hospital, and then passed away in a cell because her body could no longer take the abuse. It sounds to me like her 80 something year old body finally gave out due to drug abuse and sickness (based off comments above). It is unfortunate that Nashua taxpayers MAY have to pay anything in this case. I think many posters here are putting blame where everyone always wants to, no matter what, the Police. NPD is a professional and proactive agency who does a great job. Many people don't like the way they do things because it interferes with their lifestyle and way of living (drug dealing, burglaries, shoplifters, assaults, DWIs etc). If you commit a crime in Nashua you will most likely be caught and face the consequences of your actions. Again, many people don't like this reality, including many POSTERS on this website. In an ideal world people (and friends and families) would take responsibility for THEIR OWN ACTIONS. Decisions you make will effect how your life goes. Why should the Nashua taxpayers have to pay for the actions of a drug dealer and a drug user?
