in Easy backup on Life is grand
Aidan, if Paul thinks I shouldn't be letting people know, he can delete this comment, but if you want to try out Mozy for Mac, I'm appending the email I got about it below. I've tried it out for a week or so. So far I am very happy with it and the security of having your files backed up offsite is a good feeling.

You've been asking for it, and here it is: Mac Mozy Beta (limited.) The word 'limited' here just means that this is a beta release to just those who have specifically requested to be kept up to date on Mac Mozy development. The full public release will be in a few weeks.

Important note: This is a beta release, so if you are not comfortable using pre-release software that has bugs, please wait until Mac Mozy leaves beta sometime later this year. If you decide to try this beta, we ask you to please send us bug reports and crash dumps to macsupport@mozy.com. Thanks!

Also note that while Mac Mozy is great at backing up most of your important documents, it currently has some limitations:

- No open file support. Mac Mozy cannot back up your Entourage database while Entourage is open.
- No block level differentials. Mac Mozy doesn't back up files that have already been backed up, but when a file changes, the whole thing must be sent again regardless of size. Keep this in mind when selecting your 10GB global_domination_plan.xls spreadsheet that you update hourly.

To get started, just create an account at mozy.com if you don't have one already, and then download Mac Mozy from here:
http://mozy.com/downloads/Mozy.dmg

Documentation is coming soon - in the interim use your intuition. ;-)

Mac Mozy will work with both Mozy Unlimited (all-you-can-eat backup for $4.95/month) and Mozy Free (2GB of no-strings-attached free backup).
