in Poll: Do You Lock Your Smart Phones? on Oracle AppsLab
Yes, the treo 680 has the option to lock with a PIN. I set that up the day I got it. For me, it was a convenient replacement to my Tungsten T2 and I am a bit paranoid about all my contact info falling into the wrong hands (because it has that other kind of data you described buried inside some of the "contacts"

Good thinking, I'm still a bit bewildered by the number of people who don't do this. I usually err on the side of paranoia though.

in Email Pain Point Solved by Social Network on Oracle AppsLab
Yep. I endured it. I can only hope most of the people were "new" to the company? I think my total inbox tally for that (I set up a filter to a temp folder) came in around 350 messages. The funny thing here for me is I am not in sales, it was a sales list, but I assume I am on some list that is on some list that....
It kinda feels like people at a concert all standing up and yelling for everyone else to sit down.

Ha, good analogy. I especially enjoyed the paragraph of all caps and the ones about salary increases. Very clever stuff. Annoyance brings out the creativity in some people.
I agree that the remove mes were spurred by people new to the company, but after a couple, that excuse didn't wash. Good stuff all around, made the day go faster for me.

in Why Is Calendar So Hard? on Oracle AppsLab
Did you try Yahoo! as well? I actually like a lot of their features better than Google, though I have to admit I've never tried to import anything. looking forward to a good solution because I know eventually I'm going to have to make this journey as well. People ask me why I have a Treo 680 phone, and the answer is that it syncs easily with my Palm desktop. What a way to choose a phone.

Haven't tried Yahoo's online calendar yet. I think if Zimbra doesn't work out, I'll stick with Evolution, since it's working with my full ics file. I'm just not in love with it.

in Just Add Enterprise on Oracle AppsLab
I would think Enterprise 2.0 would be about delivering and integrating the usefulness of Web 2.0 into your business. Yes, that would mean single-sign-on, but it would also mean connecting it into your CRM or your development environment, figuring out how to use the technology for your business and then doing it (both technically and in practice).
So how exactly do you use it in supply chain management or marketing or product development and is there anything additional to be created to make it work?
For newsletters, can you create articles, review them (most likely using blogs and comments, but probably also setting publish switches and perhaps completion status) and then select the ones you want to publish, select the target audience and have it automatically go out in the corporate-approved format. The answer is surely yes, but also requires additional things to be coded and customized for your business.
I think about those standards imposed by the business, about the desire to integrate with "knowledge bases" (CRM system, or shared file system or whatever) and simply see an alternate set of uses. Maybe that's not radically different, but it is likely something a company would pay extra for that a typical web user probably wouldn't care too much about.
Just a thought.

Sure, I get what Web 2.0 can do in an enterprise. But there's no real reason to make this grandiose distinction between Web 2.0 in/outside the firewall.
You mention "standards" and "knowledge bases" which are corporate buzzwords, so doesn't Web 2.0 already have those already? Or at least they're already moving that way? RESTful APIs, OpenSocial, Data Portability aren't official standards, but supporting them allows you to do more. Flickr, Box.net, Google Apps are all non-traditional knowledge bases.
By calling something Enterprise 2.0, the implication is that it's not Web 2.0. Most E 2.0 really is Web 2.0 with a spin. However, the risk I see is companies building convoluted software and apps for enterprises that lose the social benefits of Web 2.0.

in Had Good Search Lately? on Oracle AppsLab
So on the email thing, my question is this.
How do you search for the email you glanced at and decided to address later? I assume you have tons of unread messages in your inbox, and I assume that you do not recall how many of these "I'll do it later" messages you have or even what they were about.
I still do the old filing method so that my inbox is just the: gotta do something about this.

in Does Spam Still Work? on Oracle AppsLab
As for non-techies responding to spam, I think they do (clearly someone must). My parents (read: non-techies) simply call me if they receive something they were not expecting and can't figure it out. They are pretty sceptical though.
And as for spam, my Hotmail account was set up as my spam account (you know, I have to give an email address on a website but I really don't want to kind of thing). Recently, the amount of spam I receive went from something like 30 spams a day to 0.5. Not sure what happened, but that was a huge improvement. Now only my Yahoo! account gives me major spam.
The other thing I haven't figured out is how do I get spam IMs? (only happens on my Yahoo)
