Oh, no, no, no... I know that Edward Norton can pull it off. I just never saw this coming from a million miles away. If you had told me a week ago that Edward Norton would star in a superhero movie, any superhero movie, someday, I would have laughed. It just doesn't seem like something he'd do.

Now that a day has passed, of course I'm going to be looking forward to this. Norton is one of my favorite actors ever, I've seen all of his films, so yeah... It will just take some time for me to get used to the idea!

I honestly can't say that I'm too surprised. Yeah, it had a lot of internet hype and it got good reviews, but it's 3+ hours, and the trailer was way too over-the-top for a lot of people. And for others like myself, the name Tarantino has actually started to scare me away more than anything else.

I am legitimately disturbed. Or rather, he is disturbed. The engineer sounds like a Grade-A schmuck. What is it that possesses you to talk so much to the engineer lately? I don't say that as an accusation, but as a serious question you should ask yourself. Then again, I only know a small part of the overall story, little snippets that I pick up on by these tumblr excerpts you post, so maybe there is more to it. The realization that he misses you SHOULD make you feel good, but don't mistake that for a continuation of your feelings for him if that isn't the case.

Anyway, I got one of these tumblrs. Then quickly realized I was in the minority in a site occupied by 97% women. Yikes.

I did not get towed that night, but I was towed during a Block Party one night and was furious. I did not come out until later and there was no where to park, so I parked at an Arby's where many other people were parked. I went in, ordered a sandwich, came out and went down to the block party. When I returned to the parking lot at 2 AM, my car along with about 10 others had been towed. Arby's was closed but there was a sign saying where we could get it back. When I saw my towing ticket, it said I had been towed after midnight.

To put it bluntly, what some of these companies do is pure bullshit and I swear that they get kickbacks from the towing company. They charged me $200 for being towed THREE BLOCKS.

The only reason people want to work with Grammy winners is because a Grammy increases awareness which increases album sales. It doesn't mean talent.

They sometimes get it right, but often they do not. Not nearly as "official" as the Oscars in my opinion (which are very flawed in themselves).

Caroline - is that to say that no one should ever make attempt to make a point? That there should never be philosophical discussions on the unseen and the unknown? It is not about arguments but about expanding and opening the mind. This story was not about "proving points" or "forcing opinions" and whatever claims you made. Perhaps you should re-read the story. I see a lot of hostility in your comments.

Showing kindness and compassion does no more to prove the existence of any god than the discussions between the man and the barber would. If there is a god, for one reason or another he has decided not to leave us with any proof. Which is why religions rely on faith, a trust and confidence in the unknown.

This does not mean that discussing the possibilities is not valuable.

I do not know much, other than the state of the world will not be much better than it is today. Dare I say, it may be worse, although we can only hope this is not the truth. Improvement the status of the world is going to be a long-term plan - 10 or 15 years at the least.

The Ting Tings are indeed catchy, but I've only heard a few of the songs off their album. Their video for Great DJ is so silly and 80s. I love it.

While I didn't give it number one on mine (I gave it numero dos), I think MGMT's Oracular Spectacular is probably the album of the year, because these guys came out of nowhere and rocked the socks off of everyone.

As far as the new album from The Killers, it's solid. Maybe underwhelming, but solid and I've noticed the more I listen to it, the more I like it. Goodnight, Travel Well (listen to it here) is such an epic song. An absolute masterpiece. Losing Touch kicks all kinds of ass too.

St. Anger left such a bad taste in my mouth, I haven't even bothered with the new album - except for one song, The Unforgiven III, which should have convinced me to listen to the rest, but I just haven't. I'll have to give it a shot.

I was a big Metallica fan in my junior high years. I still enjoy a lot of their stuff - Nothing Else Matters, especially the S&M; version, rocks my socks.

I actually have the audiobook too, but have never attempted to listen to it, mostly because it was a book where I read ever sentence very carefully and re-read many sections immediately after I read them (which I don't do very often).

There is some solid rap and hip hop out there. Lets see... when I went through my rap phase, I listened to mostly the likes of Tupac, Dr. Dre, the old school Snoop Dogg. That makes me a West coaster, I reckon.

And who doesn't love Run DMC and Warren G?

Really though, I like it when artists blend hip hop with other kinds of music. Artists like Citizen Cope and Why? are two awesome recent examples (I highly recommend both).

Probably the same reason I enjoy Viva La Hova, the much acclaimed mash-up of Jay-Z and Coldplay so much - although I don't really care to listen to Jay-Z music by itself.

One of my absolute favorite bands. These guys are incredible. I may be mistaken, but I think it was even you that introduced me to them a while back, Andrew, back on your old site's forum.

Those are three of my favorites (Ode the LRC might be my overall favorite) along with No One's Gonna Love You and... well, pretty much every song is brilliance.

I heard that they were getting together soon for another album and I can't wait. I hope they come around my way on tour sometime soon.

I've always been wanting to pick up some William James to read, since religion is something that fascinates me as well, but I never had. It's some pretty heavy reading, but this may have inspired me to swing by the library tomorrow and pick it up.

These are my feelings exactly, so much so, that I may concentrate my master's on religious formation throughout history. How can one man, whether Jesus or Muhammad or Buddah, gain such a following, in both the short and long term? What made their message so acceptable to people that is would catch, whereas there are hundreds of people every year that claim to be messengers of a higher power?

It's almost unbelievable. Who knows, if this L. Ron Hubbard theology continues the way it is, a few hundred years from now historians may be studying him alongside of these other religious figures.

His story is a fascinating one, although I still haven't picked up his book and read it. I've been meaning to though. And obviously, he is not just some nut, being a distinguished physics professor at UConn.

Still, I follow the Stephen Hawkings argument of time travel. It is possible to "travel" into the future, but not the past, which can be proven simply by the fact that time travelers from the future have no visited us yet. That can still be argued around, of course, but it makes sense - otherwise, perhaps, traveling back in time would also include traveling to a different plane of reality (i.e. switching dimensions, something we have zero proof of even existing).

We all seem to have a time traveling fetish here, by the way.

It's far too late to get into a debate on The Road, but if I had to sit down and rank the Cormac books I've read, it'd be something like this:

Blood Meridian
The Crossing
All the Pretty Horses
No Country for Old Men
Cities of the Plain
Child of God
The Road
The Orchard Keeper

Still, even with The Road being so low, I'd still give it an A. I'd give all of his novels I've read an A or A+.

Looking forward to starting Suttree and the Outer Dark when I can get the time and I still need to read his two plays.

In my eyes, In Rainbows is not just the Album of the Year, but maybe of the decade. Reckoner is certainly Record of the Year.

But I've never really taken the Grammy's too seriously anyway (I mean, come on - no MGMT on there anywhere, not even for Best New Artist that has a spot occupied by the Jonas Brothers?) and Grammy omissions never really bug me the way bad Oscar choices do. With all of that said, I don't want to take anything away from this album by Plant and Krauss, which is incredible and had I made my Albums of the Year list beforehand, it would definitely be on there.

It's way out of element for both artists. I love it. Plant singing vocal harmonies with an artist so incredibly different from he is something both fascinating and hard to stop listening to. I especially love it because Robert Plant could have instead gone on tour with Led Zeppelin again for the first time since the 80s and made MEGA bucks (it would easily be the biggest and most successful tour of all time if they did, I guarantee it), but he choose a much different, much more low-key route instead.

p.s. Song of the Year goes to the writer. Record of the Year goes to the performer.

Just today, I began reading Shusaku Endo's Silence, a Japanese novel from the 60s about Jesuit priests in 17th century Japan. It also happens to be Scorsese's next adaptation apparently with Daniel Day-Lewis in talks to star. Cool.

There is a used bookstore in the city near me that I can't help but stop by every time I pass, generally with nothing in mind. Book covers are generally a lot more interesting than movie posters because they aren't obligated to smack on the faces of a bunch of movie stars.

Often, a good cover will stick out and beg to be noticed, in which case I always have to read over the synopsis and maybe read over the first page or two before I decide to buy it or not. So, I don't buy solely on the cover, but a good cover will certain up the chances that I notice it in the midst of thousands of other used books.

Ralph - don't expect to see Thornton's version anytime soon. As I wrote, he will only do it if the original score is in place and that is an obstacle in and of itself.

I'm with you, Murph. I'd like to see All the Pretty Horses remade and then make this sucker as a consistent trilogy - either with one director, such as Andrew Dominik tackling them all, or having a different capable director on each picture.

The Crossing
Year: 1940
Billy Parham is 16 years old.

All the Pretty Hoses
Year: 1948
John Grady Cole is 16 years old

Cities of the Plain
Year: 1952
John Grady is 20 years old.
Billy Parham is 28 years old.

The Crossing, while written second, would be filmed first with a young actor. After a few years, All the Pretty Horses would be filmed with a young actor. A few years later, Cities of the Plain. It would work out wonderfully. I would pee my pants. Get Dominik, John Hillcoat, and Aaron J. Wiederspahn on this ASAP!

A few "thematic" trilogies that come to mind that don't share characters are 21 Grams, Amores perros, and Babel. Then Krystof Kieslowski's Three Colours trilogy. And Park Chan-Wook's Vengeance Trilogy.

None have character crossovers like this would though.

I highly recommend this, obviously. You nailed it, rot. It's a vision of America that would be hard to come by nowadays, although I warn you, it is also the kind of book that will make you want to quit your job, drop everything, and just go. That's the power of Steinbeck's prose.

And goodness gracious, rot! You must pick up some Steinbeck. He's got some great short works like Of Mice and Men and Tortilla Flat that you could read in a couple of sittings that might not be a bad place to start. Then, besides maybe The Great Gatsby, Steinbeck's East of Eden may be my favorite American novel. I've read most of his novels, and he's not as good of a writer as Hemingway or Fitzgerald or some of the other American greats, but my god, he is a great storyteller.

Chrome has grown on me, but by accident. My Firefox was attacked by a worm that couldn't touch Chrome, so I started using it.

I like a lot of it, although I agree with above. The way the bookmarks are set up (and I have thousands) is really inconvenient.

I read very good, but not necessarily challenging books in high school. The classic Steinbeck's (East of Eden, The Grapes of Wrath), the classic everyone hates (The Scarlett Letter), the popular French classics (The Count of Monte Cristo and Les Misérables), and probably my favorite classic American novel and the staple of every high school literary diet, The Great Gatsby.

I'm also a little surprised by that book selection for high schoolers, Christian, but I find that absolutely awesome and, as a future teacher, inspiring.

Wow, I can't believe it has already been 8 years since he released You Rock My World. I'm getting old. But yeah, even 8 years ago, the man was as smooth as ever and still making some great music.

Thanks for the kind words, folks. While the content update is fairly slow still, I hope that before long this will pick up and be one of the go-to pop culture sites on the net, but one that offers something different, much like our sister site Row Three.

As for the painting, it is indeed stunning. Something about it just captures my imagination. There's a story there behind that man's eyes, behind that stare, just waiting to be told.

While I social network (I blog, I have a facebook, I have an all but inactive MySpace) and feel that it does have its uses and benefits, I think the way we are headed is a major, major problem for our world socially.

I wrote this blog post about it just a couple of weeks ago actually, which actually inspired some of my friends to take a break from social networking for a couple of weeks.

I have a lot to say and some rebuttals to make in these comments, but no time now. The article will suffice until tomorrow.

I do my best to confront social injustices around me, although it's difficult and any one man can only do so much with the resources and opportunities they are given. Not every man can be like Paul Newman (or Fonda's Tom Joad, for that matter), although he's a shining example to everyone.

You do know this is an MMORPG though, right, Andrew? Last time there was a Star Wars MMORPG, I almost died of disappointment. That was back in 2003 when I was still a gamer, and I followed every bit of news, every video, every photo concerning Star Wars Galaxies. I bought it the day it came out, I installed it with such anticipation. The character creation came on and it was so incredibly in depth, I almost wet myself with excitement. Then I began to play. And I was in denial for the first ten hours that it was so incredibly dull... and it continued to be. Such a disappointment.

Still, this trailer looks kickass and I have been following this game lightly. I'd consider Knights of the Old Republic one of the very best games ever created on any system, and personally, it'd make my top five. I could not stop playing it when it came out. I was totally immersed.

Lastly, why didn't George Lucas have his Clone Wars stuff this type of animation instead of that shitty outdated cartoonish crap that he did. Money is no excuse.

Man, Michael defined cool for an entire generation. It's a shame that most young people today only remember him for his weirdness, for the molestation allegations, the plastic surgery, etc. because man, this dude could dance and sing like no other before or after. We were discussing this and the only other artist I think that could give him a run for his money as the BIGGEST of all time would be Elvis.

His story is a tragic one though. While I don't want to make light of the fact that he slept in bed with little boys and didn't seem to find anything wrong with that, Michael never had a chance to live. From the time he was 5 or 6, he became a superstar, and whereas most child stars fade out and can proceed to have a normal life, he only ended up becoming a bigger star - much by the force of his asshole, money-grubbing father. It's sad.

But hell, he entertained people for decades. Personal life aside, he was a musical god.

I'm a huge Hemingway fanboy. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie in the works about the final days of his life, his dealings with alcoholism and depression also - as long as they give due time to his literary genius. I'd love to see some of his interactions with some other authors although that was more in his earlier years, like with Fitzgerald in the 20s and 30s.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I can't imagine fans of the original Halloween will want to see this. Maybe some, of course, but not all. Zombie is changing everything that was great about the original Halloween.

1) In the original, Michael comes from a normal, loving family. He's kills his sister for no apparent reason. He is simply evil, and there is no real reason, and that is frightening. In the remake, they're giving Michael a drugged out stripper for a mom, an abusive stepfather, and a whore for a sister. Gee. How original.

2) Young Michael is going to masturbate to pictures of dead animals... umm............

3) Michael is going to talk while wearing the mask. Are you kidding me?

4) Michael is the size of a professional wrestler. He is no longer the stealthy, regular human known simply as "The Shape."

5) The mask looks terrible. It's barely even white, it's filthy and it just looks awful.

6) The original Halloween has almost zero gore. It relies on atmosphere and suspense to frighten. Zombie's Halloween is going to be a gore and nudity fest. It's going to be ridiculous.

Why is Zombie even remaking this? Why doesn't he just make his own damn killer movie if he's changing nearly EVERYTHING that made the original Halloween great? Like I said, this is ridiculous.

Of course there is going to be criticism of the list, that's obvious and expected with any and every list ever created. Still Ray, your arguments over this list are pretty irrational and silly and you've made it clear the way you think and that you're not going to change your mind no matter what anyone says. With that said, your inclusion of personal insults only makes me think much, much less of what you have to say.

And I voted for Groundhog Day on my final Top 100 list. It's one of the greatest comedies of the past twenty years, easily, and to dismiss that and say it absolutely DOES NOT belong on a list of greatest films under any circumstances is complete rubbish.

Yeah, so the final list is nowhere near the list I submitted - probably about half of my films made it - but I'm proud of it. Yeah, I'm flabberghasted that Run Lola Run made it and Cool Hand Luke or The Great Silence or The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance or Ikiru didn't, but that's the fun of these lists. If I wanted to put out MY OWN top 100, I just would have done that and not have bothered organizing this whole deal.

Maybe some people just take these lists way too seriously. Feel free to respond or ask any questions, I'll willing to have a civil, rational conversation about this if you are.

Have we not made it clear that this isn't a response to the AFI list? Inspired by, sure, but it is by no means a response. I don't care what one of the participant's websites said, it's wrong. Go back to the main source of Cinema Fusion where I DID state the purpose of the list:

"We did not make this list - which is a collaboration of over 50 movie website writers - to compete with any other list out there; we simply just wanted to do this to create an alternative list created from the opinions of online movie writers who are passionate about films of all kind and spend every day watching, reviewing, breaking down, and discussing them because they love to do it. Plus, it was just a lot of fun for all of us and a way to bring the online film community together. Naturally, there is never a list anyone seems to agree with completely and thatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s the way it should be. There is no such thing as a 'defining' list of movies, but lists can be fun, they can be informative, and they can get people to see movies they had either looked over in the past or maybe never even heard of."

By the way, if you look at the 400 nominees for AFIs Top 100 (which you can do on their site), you'll see that Groundhog Day is on the list because it simply and obviously belongs there. Surely you, being a passionate movie fan, can understand that. As for Monty Python, it isn't on their because it's not American.

Seriously though, it makes me giddy to know that Spielberg invited you and all those other online journalists though. Awesome. Loved the write up and I can only IMAGINE what it would be like to see Indy in full, er, Indy gear. That's why I drove those 600 miles to try and be an extra (but heck, maybe next time, eh?).

I beg to differ. I really enjoyed the commercials and I really dug their style and think he could definitely be the right man for the job.

Plus, I'm a sucker for relative unknowns that get their big breaks from greedy studios. Greedy studios don't like taking risks usually and hiring a person who has never directed a feature film is a HUGE risk.

Now that I'm not commenting drunk, let me add my two cents.

I saw this movie and it is INSULTINGLY bad. Seriously. There are very few redeeming qualities and Pacino just sleepwalks his way through it, as thought he was wondering the entire time, "My god, what have I gotten myself into?"

I cannot fathom why he would read this script and sign on. The script was AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL - completely cliche-ridden, contrived, boring, predictable, formulaic, iccck. I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he must have either done this as A) a favor or B) to fulfill a contract - neither is a GOOD excuse, but it would make me feel better about the man's judgment.

So, what I'm trying to say is this movie is one of the worst of Pacino's career.

Hey, I was a child of the late-80s and early-90s, so I get the love for Paulie Shore, but christ... his movies were god-awful. There just isn't denying that.

As for 88 Minutes, it really is offensively bad. I honestly cannot understand how anyone read that script and thought it would be interesting. It's one of those movies, much like Meet the Spartans, that depresses you, because it gets made into a big-time Hollywood movie, when we know we could write our own script a million times better.

Why do I get the feeling that they did this to test to waters, make a little ruckus, and see if there WAS an interest in Wayne's World 3?

The first Wayne's World is a classic. The second is plagued with many problems, but still has some funny moments, the perfect example of a mediocre comedy.

I'd be all for a third, if for nothing else than to bring Dana Carvey out of retirement (and keep Mike Myers away from shit - or what looks like shit - like The Love Guru).

Blood Meridian is one of the greatest American novels of the 20th century, hands down. If you haven't, read it. It's unforgivingly brutal and emotional exhausting to read.

I think it is fantastic! And regardless of advertising, Smith has a very loyal, precise following, which gives them a little more leeway with their advertising. His movies lately always open up in the $8-11 million range, regardless of what they are or how they are advertised.
