It was the National Book Award, yeah. And while I've never read Revolutionary Road, I can't imagine it being so much better than The Moviegoer that it was considered and inexcusable mistake. The Moviegoer is a genuine Southern classic and I cannot believe IT hasn't been made into a film yet.

Had to throw out here another quote from Percy's 'The Moviegoer.' Just so many great excerpts in this one.

I'm a huge Hemingway fanboy. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie in the works about the final days of his life, his dealings with alcoholism and depression also - as long as they give due time to his literary genius. I'd love to see some of his interactions with some other authors although that was more in his earlier years, like with Fitzgerald in the 20s and 30s.

No friggin' way. Jealous. They aren't even on tour, are they? I didn't even realize they have a new album out until just now. I'm grabbing that one now.

I wish I had money to go to any concerts at all this summer. I missed a free The Black Keys show down in Pittsburgh a couple of weeks ago because I was out of town.

Man, Michael defined cool for an entire generation. It's a shame that most young people today only remember him for his weirdness, for the molestation allegations, the plastic surgery, etc. because man, this dude could dance and sing like no other before or after. We were discussing this and the only other artist I think that could give him a run for his money as the BIGGEST of all time would be Elvis.

His story is a tragic one though. While I don't want to make light of the fact that he slept in bed with little boys and didn't seem to find anything wrong with that, Michael never had a chance to live. From the time he was 5 or 6, he became a superstar, and whereas most child stars fade out and can proceed to have a normal life, he only ended up becoming a bigger star - much by the force of his asshole, money-grubbing father. It's sad.

But hell, he entertained people for decades. Personal life aside, he was a musical god.

Was always lukewarm to Kings of Leon until their new album. It's an absolute masterpiece (see 'Use Somebody' and 'Closer').

God... I really hope I can go to this. This is going to be incredible.

I'd kill a man to see MGMT live. I'd kill two men to see Explosions in the Sky. Man, I sure hope I can make it out there this year...

Christian, I couldn't recommend it any more. It's a very quick read and a fabulous, often overlooked American existentialist classic.

You do know this is an MMORPG though, right, Andrew? Last time there was a Star Wars MMORPG, I almost died of disappointment. That was back in 2003 when I was still a gamer, and I followed every bit of news, every video, every photo concerning Star Wars Galaxies. I bought it the day it came out, I installed it with such anticipation. The character creation came on and it was so incredibly in depth, I almost wet myself with excitement. Then I began to play. And I was in denial for the first ten hours that it was so incredibly dull... and it continued to be. Such a disappointment.

Still, this trailer looks kickass and I have been following this game lightly. I'd consider Knights of the Old Republic one of the very best games ever created on any system, and personally, it'd make my top five. I could not stop playing it when it came out. I was totally immersed.

Lastly, why didn't George Lucas have his Clone Wars stuff this type of animation instead of that shitty outdated cartoonish crap that he did. Money is no excuse.

An amazing photo that I actually stumbled on only a few weeks before this. The photographer captured so much in this image.

Yeah, I know I have been slacking unbelievably lately - but having just graduated college, job hunting, working, coaching Special Olympics, and everything else, I simply haven't had the time. Today is Sunday though, which was always the day for Quote of the Week... hmm... I do have a few minutes for once.

Ah, if only more girls viewed the world the way you do, I wouldn't have half the problems that I do. Then again, I suppose those problems keep life interesting, but girls tend to mix up infatuation and sex with things like feelings and love. I just quickly glanced over some of this stuff you wrote, and it seems like you are the opposite of what is typical, at least around the area I am. The guys are the ones getting so emotionally involved her, whereas you are so easily able to shrug it off. Cheers to that, lady. Keep on fighting the good fight and breaking those hearts.

Coldplay is a very unique, influential band. Anyone that says otherwise, whether they like them or not, is a nincompoop. I used to be on the "hate 'em" side until I actually started listening to their stuff. Their new album is a masterpiece.

Christian - if you have the time, pick up Down and Out in Paris and London. I've read quite a bit of his work and it'd put it behind only 1984. It's a masterpiece.

Also, anyone else check out George Orwell's blog? Fascinating stuff: http://orwelldiaries.wordpress.com/

Wow, what a fantastic mix. I'm digging that The Ghost of Tom Joad cover, for sure. The Grapes of Wrath is one of my favorite novels, as well. I think I know what the quote of the week is going to be from...

I do my best to confront social injustices around me, although it's difficult and any one man can only do so much with the resources and opportunities they are given. Not every man can be like Paul Newman (or Fonda's Tom Joad, for that matter), although he's a shining example to everyone.

I apologize for missing these past two weeks with quotes. It's been busy, busy, busy. Have you read any or much Bukowski?

Also, I only have a few more stories and I'll be finished with your book. It's fucking fantastic though, Christian. I've loved reading along with your blog too, really enriches the stories. I also apologize for taking so long to get through it - I can't wait to write up my review - but as you can imagine with this teaching, things have been pretty hectic. :-)

They did PITTSBURGH? That's my city, baby! Now I have to buy this. Which is saddening that I haven't, being a huge huge huge Elder Scrolls fan. Just can't justify spending my time on video games any longer, but who knows, maybe this summer?
