Damn buggers! They've started without me...

Hey, this is a good point. Almost smells of a sporecast. Will try and remember to do this at some point as well ;-). Still only have one species in the Space phase.

One thing I've noticed is that if you make your buildings very large, that it can be hard see inside your city (esp. during placement)...and yes, painting can be tricky :-)

Anyone know if EBGames somewhere has SPORE yet? Won't get to try until Wednesday arvo at earliest, otherwise picking mine up sometime Thursday lunchtime.

This sure makes a change (getting the game early). We might get Rock Band 2 before RB1 at this rate...

I haven't installed patch yet - haven't been having any issue with CC since I updated graphics driver in the early days. With SPORE a week away, I figure you have to remove CC before installing SPORE anyway (like going from Trial to Full-CC), so I'll let SPORE dictate what I should do there rather than worry about the patch ;-) I will however be copying the My Spore Creations folder next week, just in case...

OK, I have seen the light...err...posters: Your good friend, the local EBGames store says "On sale September 4th!" - always trust your friends...

Considering world-wide release is suppose to be no later than the 7th, I am expecting it is the 4th (fitting in with Thursday release cycles). At least, my fingers are crossed it's the 4th...

I haven't pre-ordered from EB yet with the discount, but I so hope it isn't a week later than the rest of the world. Anyone else have any other info on when the usual suspects in Oz might be releasing SPORE? What is it with Australia and EA over SPORE. We not uploading enough creatures to the Sporepedia or something?

Brilliant concept. Would give a whole new dimension to the default dance behaviours in test drive mode ;-)

I have noticed myself recently thinking, on seeing an animal, character or some object, "Yeah, I can see how that could be done in Spore-CC". I must be spending too much time in there. Next I will be dreaming of stuff in the Spore art style!

In reference to the creature painting: my two versions of the Z'Eleron creature shows the difference between having texture and colour and not - the black creature just has the (3rd layer) colour applied with no texture (so the armour trim is gold). Haven't thought much of this since either.

There were parts flying; it almost looked like it was getting dizzy the podium was spinning that fast. Click! Click! Click! and we had some colour...that was fun. Doing some more tomorrow.

At the moment, my main brief in creating a creature is "something small, simple, and herbivorous". The main reason is to have some balance from earlier creatures I have made that may have been large, complex and carnivorous (trial didn't help ;-). Also, it is a response to recent news reports that smaller, less powerful or complex creatures are encountered near your home nest - so want to fill a niche there for a bit.

My 'quick' creatures are usually from an exploration of a part I haven't used much of, a particular 'animal' concept I am currently thinking of, or just because I can't tear myself away from the CC for some sleep. Ottus was an approx. 10 minute concept of the rodent-like head on a small-ish creature, and reminded me of an otter (hence name from Ratus sp. and otter); which led within 5 minutes to the Sea Otter (which I remembered the animal it reminded me of); then less than 5 minutes later, Ratus.

My first creature (Kadelor) was slapped together and painted in about 5 minutes. I think the Maxis team hit their goals quite well in terms of anyone being able to pass something reasonable out that quickly. I'm wouldn't call myself an artist by any definition, but the editor is great that way: 5 minutes or 5 hours and you think you've got a masterpiece. What everyone else thinks is another matter, hehe. :-P

Yes, I tried getting a two footed hop going the other night with my small Sparrow Finch. I had basically a single thigh that then branched into two feet. The CC animation system detects one foot and you have a hop; two and it starts walking. Another reason I haven't tried a kangaroo-type creature myself yet. Have seen one or two single legged 'roos, though.

Anyway...that was red? Looked dark brown to me ;-)

The $15 off by pre-ordering the game at EBGames has snagged me...wife still wasn't that convinced though. Hmm...get the game on the 4th, or unwrapping it on the 7th in front of the kids. Tough choice :-P

Just so you know, the actual demo of civ and space phase is part 4 -6 and is awesome! The graphics/art in both phases looks astounding. Don't like to wish my life away, but September can't come quick enough!

Cheers Immortius! I deleted the original Z'Eleron set as I adjusted the horns forward a bit, although I have left the original pale blue/yellow creature up for nostalgia (didn't like the colour much, was a bit washed out - think of it as the primitive Z'Eleronian form ;-) .
