If you didn't already read my reply to your comment on my blog, I just wanted to say that this SHOULD be considered a hack. You're taking advantage of FCA00000's AppTRK exploit to gain full access to C:\, Secman then copies its custom root cert over. Besides, what are you gonna do when you're away from your computer?

Fact of the matter is that this IS A HACK. Nokia didn't intend for you to gain access to C:\ and that's exactly what this process has to do. I don't see why you're afraid of the hacks anyway... They've only brought about good things to the Symbian community (including secman) so I feel that everybody should embrace the hacks, acknowledge FCA00000's requests by GIVING BLOOD and stick up their middle fingers to Stupid Symbian Signed.

This is a definition I found for hack: "Slang for any type of computer programing or, more specificially, attempting to bypass a security system". Attempting to bypass a security system. That's exactly what FCA00000 did and that's exactly what Binpda did when they made use of FCA00000's AppTRK exploit to create secman.

If you thought the original hacking process was long and complicated then surely using secman is just as complex. It requires numerous steps to set it up, sign and then install the applications. SWMail's Installserver.exe mod is without doubt the easiest way to install unsigned apps. No third party apps, no signing and no computer. Just one click.

I don't mind not having a lens cover. I've had my N95 8GB for about 6 months and in that time, I've never had it in a case nor used screen protectors. I throw my N95 8GB in my pocket along with my keys, coins and school cards every day yet there's not a single scratch on the lens(quite a few on the front thogh).

There's an autostart version of ROMPatcher available meaning that you don't need to apply patches on each restart. This particular patch still requires that you turn active standby on and off, though.

If you haven't seen them already, here are some other patches that some may find useful(when autostarted):

1)Disable camera shutter sound, even if your firmware doesn't allow it.
2)Disable Java security warnings.
3)Using voice command to open any application you want.
4)Allowing any other application instead of the browser to be opened by holding down '0'.

CapsOn will not stop you from being able to install unsigned apps with this method. When using this, there's no way to turn off the ability to install unsigned apps without removing installserver.exe.

I can confirm that the N73's memory card cover has no effect at-all. It doesn't even touch the surface.

However, I found a different way for the N73 to stand on it's side. If you have a wrist strap attached like I do, Just move this around the back of the device and voila!

Well, the original N95 was OK, BUT the N95 8GB which is also fitted with a black costume is more 'powerful' aswell with the increased RAM, bigger screen etc...

OR maybe Nokia just picked it randomly...it wouldn't surprise me :P

The N82, which has accelorometer rotation built-in can also only rotate one way, so I think this must be some sort of constriction in the firmware or seomething???

One thing that I've always liked to see Nokia do is advertise their flagship phones in a manner that lots of people will see these adverts. The iPhone adverts are currently running everywhere on TV in the UK, and just before and after the release in november there were O2 adverts for the iPhone at bus-stops, on buses, on large billboards and on the internet EVERYWHERE.

I've said this before, but, if the N95 sold 1 Million+ in the UK alone even with Nokia's pretty damn poor advertising of the device, imagine how many more it would have sold if Nokia advertised the N95 like Apple did the iPhone?

I have to agree with Ricky here, Amy. I can add that it took about 8 minutes to freshly update my N95 8GB which incuded downloading the 100mb+ update and then actually updating the phone. There's something wrong with your computer as I've never had problems like yours on XP nor Vista.

It's a slow sunday evening and I decided to get back into detective mode and carry on with this whole Anssi adventure. It turns out Anssi Makela is a Nokia employee and is pretty well known around the blogsphere. There's also hints("you are absolutely right... but there is more which I won't reveal just yet ;) stay tuned hehehehe ") at this whole campaign from 2 months back, so this could be pretty big.
