Yeah. Actually, the great explorators, settlers and pilgrims were the true first startup businesses, getting money from the powerful to achieve some territorial extension.

in If You Can Type, You Can Make Movies on Fred Brunel
I played a lot with the interface. It is fast, logical and clean yet I didn't find the way to switch from one character to the other. Also, it would be perfect to write the script and be able to record the lines with our own voices while the movie plays back.

Fred Brunel Thanks Fred. We know about the limitation and we're working on that. This is really our first version but the underlying technology can do much more.

This article from CNET http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-10020902-75.h... brings a new picture to the reality of the way our crave for disk space reshapes our world.

Fred Brunel 10,000 servers a month! That's just crazy!

I also heard that Google currently hit 1,000,000 servers and Facebook just added 50,000 servers to their infrastructure.

There is something really important here and it has to do with our changing idea of what is useful and what is important. The best time capsule I was offered in my life is my grandparents attic because it has never been organized to become one. On the other side, war reporters and historians agree on the fact that digital pictures brought a broad change in the historic material by flashing out the pictures that are not used in the media. It may sound bad but I can see some natural selection here. Who needs to keep everything ? Is it a good thing ?

Fred Brunel Privacy is a concern but putting that aside, I'd like to keep everything and at least be able to decide what to get rid off. Right now, I have neither of these: no (real) control on data I put online.

Speaking about historians, what will be left for them, everything can be wiped in a fraction of second.

That said, I think we're living an exciting transition. There is still a lot of challenges.

Great report enhanced by your "zero bullshit added, all fat trimmed" trademark approach. From what I red about the event, the second iteration of the web is focussed on running for sustainability and refining the existing success stories. Which is great because it means that the new services we are now used to are here to stay.

This "USB stick with an eye" reminds me of the "bidule" TV microseries on french Canal+

in 5 Reasons Why the iPhone Is a Great Platform on Fred Brunel

Great article but the headline has not enough catch. Something a bit controversal like "What is so damn different with the iPhone ?" might have driven more interest from both sides of the handset without damaging your text's credibility. Something like "Why you should port your app to the iPhone ASAP" might also catch readers in a good way. KIU.

The "Demo in the demo at demo08" part is certainly a VERY GOOD IDEA, funny and truly demonstrating the diversity of applications for the product.

Does this thing still needs wheels? Removing them may help to balance, especially if the hairdryers boost is not perfectly matched. Web glory can make you do crazy things...
