in why you’ll be richer without kids on brip blap
"My life has been enriched by my daughter far more than any currency ever could." - I dont even have kids yet and I agree with this statement 100%. Making a lot of money just gives you money, it does not necessarily make you rich. I could care less about being wealthy as long as I have a nice life with good friends/family and I have my health. Everything else is extra, including being wealthy.

Linda I agree. This is a very interesting discussion. My husband and I have talked about his coworkers who chose not to have kids and we are glad when people know they don't want to have kids. We have kids and love having them. People who don't want kids shouldn't have them - the worst is when someone who doesn't want kids and ends up having them and then doesn't take care of them. We may never become rich but you know what? Being rich is too overrated. You only need enough to live on, the idea is to know how much is enough and make plans accordingly. The value of the comments here is that we are all thinking about these issues and even though we don't all agree, we know the different sides to of these issues. Everyone has a different take and each is valid.

Being a parent can be extremely difficult but it is also a wonderful experience. It is the most important job in the world - bar none. You are responsible for this human being until he/she reaches adulthood and beyond. People talk about changing the world, well, you can do it right at home. You are this person's world. The relationship you have with this person is priceless. A rich family life surpasses any success in life.

in do you need a bailout? on brip blap
Fantastic post, and dead on. Unfortunately, too many people still want another stimulus check or a personal bailout - not comprehending how it all works. Every time I mention it on my site, I get people screaming at me because they want a stimulus check. They have no idea that they will have to pay it back eventually, even if some of these corporations won't. You are so right - you have to be your own bailout, as $1000 in the mail is not really going to change anyone's financial health for longer than a few days. Advance planning is the only way to be "secure". Great post as usual.

in Improving Cash Flow vs. Accumulating Wealth on WealthBoy
While I agree in principle about paying down highest interest loans first, the "mental" satisfaction in this case of not having car loan and not having a $600 outlay of cash each month for a car, could supercede any thoughts on interest rates. If this was me, I would pay off the car with the money and put the rest towards the house. A $600 reduction in monthly costs is too much to pass up for a $70 or so savings each month on a mortgage, at least for me. Great post

WealthBoy For many, improved cash flow indeed does provide a sense of security even when it is to the detriment of net worth. I think it helps to be informed when making such decisions by realizing the long-term cost and developing a good view of the big picture. In the grand scheme of things, 20 months isn't a long time to finish paying off an auto loan and in month 21 cash flow would improve by $670 vs. $600.

Whatever I did, it would have absolutely nothing to do with money. We are so caught up in making money, I think we forget that at the end, we all die and money means nothing.

I think I would eat ice cream and pizza until I could not move. Oh, and hang out with family. :-)

in Why Drilling Offshore is a Bad Idea on WealthBoy
Great post, agree 100%! More people need to know that if we dig for more oil, the work towards renewables will be delayed, and then once we run out of our newly found oil, we won't have any that we will need to create the alternative fuels infrastructure.

in Why is it important to have health coverage, even if you're healthy? on Bible Money Matters
Totally worth it - thankfully I had it when I just went through my medical stuff, as otherwise I would have been out over $30000 rather than $7K. I am (and still am, I think) very healthy, but when something sneaks up on you....we will never go without insurance, even if we only have a catastrophic plan.

in Gas in the U.S. is Cheap on WealthBoy
Gas should be more expensive here to encourage people to buy smaller more fuel efficient cars...or just to actually give them something to complain about. You cannot drive a big suv AND complain about gas prices, it makes no sense.

Hey there...good article, I agree with you for the most part. But I am curious about the "incompatibility" issues you think Apple users have. I only use Apples and always have, both in business and at home. There are ways to do everything! :-)

That being said, the cult of Mac can be a scary place, but I wouldn't leave for anything. If I can get my mom to use a Mac and never have problems, (rather than phone calls every week with a blue screen of death), it's worth the price of admission.

Oh, and never buy an Apple product when it comes out, they always go down pretty soon!
