in All The Tools You Need For Success At SXSW | Social Media Explorer on Social Media Explorer
Have fun! I won't be there this year... workload not permitting this time.
;-( wish I was there.
Maybe this year I would have interviewed you about the Tide thing the other night!
Have a blast, forward positive vibes on to everyone at SXSW!

Oh the humanity!
Thanks for the props. Great additional thoughts on the notion. In this space, we judge people by the character of their content, not by the colour of their logo.
... oh my... that may be the title of my next post!

in Facebook Group And Brand Page Best Practices on Social Media Explorer
Hey Jason
Oops, your chart says that groups cannot have social ad promotion. You can do social ad promotion for groups. I used social ads to kick start my experimental Soviet Poster and Steam Punk groups in the past. Both returned on expectations.
Thanks again for the links to my radical trust series on Facebook Pages Best Practices. I have recently updated another post with lessons from the top ten (by population) pages. http://www.radicaltrust.ca/2008/09/29/best-prac...
This is a great post... added bookmarks!
cheers

Hey Collin - Thanks for pointing that out. Guess I needed to go back and try everything again to make sure I was right. Will correct the image and note accordingly.
Appreciate the crowdsourcing contribution!

It's true, she loves teaching people to play. I only lost $27 with her instruction, Without it I surely would have lost the entire $100 I brought.

in Bob Garfield - The Death of Ad Agencies on The New PR
I always enjoy what the ever irreverent Bob Garfield has to say, and write. I also agree that most of his dire predictions are about to be true, rather then currently are. Inevitable as they may be. There is still time for the agencies to shift... but they are going to take a few on the chin, and in the bottom line before the dust settles. I wonder who will be the first to accept that?
My guess is, we will lose a couple completely before that happens.

in The disconnect between agencies and clients on The New PR
As an agency guy, frankly I am surprised that the agency number of 25% is so high. Not that I am defending Advertising, particularly the 30 sec spot as any sort of solution.
As I write this, here are the questions I ponder...
Has this commercialization of journalism reduced this communication to another advertising channel?
Has this removed credibility from the entire concept of journalism?
Are “product messages” in the press as equally ineffective as the ads that are surrounding them if nobody is reading the paper?
Is it time to separate “Buzz” from “Press”?
Getting things in the press does not constitute a
conversation anymore? Does it? How?
I am with you, conversation and peer influence are vital to brand building today. Perhaps the various Social Media platforms are the current optimal format to achieve this.

A cigarette company! What a great idea! 2 colours on one crayon. The first 4/5ths of the crayon would be named something like "lite white" with the last bit "osmose orange". They could actually use the crayon as a pretend smoke, to impress the other kids with their coolness.
I think I may go to hell now.

in How did you get into marketing? on The New PR
When I was 6 I wanted to be a helicopter pilot.
When I was 18, I wanted to be a helicopter pilot, but couldn't afford it, so I studied animation
When I was 20 I took my first job in marketing
I made Creative Director at age 28.
I am now 32, and I want to be a helicopter pilot.
Pretty soon I will be able to afford it.

in Only A-Listers Say There’s No A-List on Instigator Blog
I agree with you and vernon...
I would add that "Z-Tags" or something like that might have been better solution. However, I buy into the concept a bit, afterall, there are only a few hundred blogs involved here... it's not like the entire technorati world will change... unless every community within technorati starts to do it.
Most of us are marketers after all. Who doesn't buy in to the odd pyramid scheme from time to time?
