Nice commentary, Aaron. I agree that the "social" phenomenon is more than a set of tools.

in Why Video Will Be So Important in 2009 on The Social Media Marketing Blog
Scott, I agree that this is the perfect way to use video. Nicely done. As for the park assist product, this is a wonderful tool for all my friends who never learned to parallel park! Amazing.

Amen, Scott. I too am frequently asked about crafting something "viral." If only!

in My own personal Independence Day on Community Guy
Excellent advice. Where were you 20 years ago when I was starting out?! You make some excellent points, although I'm intrigued by the 33/33/33 suggestion. I seem to be spending about 75% of my time on client work. My new tactic is to devote a half-day each week to marketing efforts, in addition to my sporadic blogging and Twittering. Let's see how that works out.

Happy Independence Day!

Jake McKee Yeah, it's tough to remember to do the new business stuff when you're swamped with work. But that's precisely how you get into trouble, right? If a client project ends sooner than expected, for instance, you want to be able to quickly insert something as a replacement project.

Of course, how you look at the 33/33/33 doesn't have to be by the day or the week. Could be by the month or even the quarter.

Chris, I have a feeling that your brain on two hours of sleep functions better than the brains of most mortals on eight.

Good advice, though!

Take care. I hope tonight is uneventful at your house.

Chris, this race gets worse by the minute. This latest announcement from Clinton is political pandering pure and simple. Yech.

Wash your hands like crazy or use an alcohol-based gel like Purell. Try to avoid coughing and sneezing people, although they seem to love airplanes.

Sounds like a fabulous event, Chris. At PodCamp Toronto this weekend, I thought of you. We had Brogan here but not Penn!

Thanks again for all you've done with PodCamps and other networking/sharing events.

in Slicing Time in a Face to Face Environment on Chris Brogan
Chris, I appreciate your not wanting to be perceived as a snob. Personally, I don't think anyone would say this about you. That being said, I think it's perfectly fine to say: “You’re really interesting ... You know, I only have a limited amount of time to meet and speak with everyone. Could I ask to you follow up with your larger questions via email?” as you've said above. If this bothers you, how about saying instead, "I'm really enjoying this conversation and would like to talk with you again. But I don't want to monopolize you right now. So I'll let you go..." This accomplishes two things: it makes you look generous in valuing THEIR time. MAYBE it will make them think later that shouldn't monopolize someone else's time. Of course some people will never understand, and they'll try to chew your ear off for 45 minutes!

in Presentation Secrets for Social Communicators on Chris Brogan
Another excellent post, Chris. Very good tips. I agree wholeheartedly that storytelling HAS to be an integral part of your presentation. The audience enjoys hearing/seeing information conveyed this way, and I believe they are more likely to remember it.

in Made in the USA? on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
Well said, Chris. I have been wary about cheaply made goods and imported foods for a long time. Whenever possible, I buy local. But as you say, labels can be misleading. "Made in Canada" or "Made in US" vitamins, for example, can contain ingredients from China or elsewhere. I checked with a company whose label I used to respect. No more.

Nice video, Chris. Shows the beauty of Boston. I too laughed out loud at your joke about the stunt driver.

Hey, next time you come to Toronto you MUST do the harbour tour here.
