in Richardson Supports ‘Courageous’ McCain’s Plan for Immigration — Is He Switching Positions? on The Iowa Independent
The fence

If Richardson thinks the US and Mexico are friends, he has not been listening to the Mexican government.  Mexico is solving their problem of poverty by encouraging its citizens to migrate to the US illegally, send money back to Mexico, and remain loyal to Mexico.  Recently, the new Mexican president said the US has no right to deport Mexican nationals and was declaring war on the US to be fought politically by encouraging Mexicans to demonstrate in the US and register to vote. Mexico is rich in natural resources, but will never solve poverty in Mexico as long as they are allowed to exploit the US.

FENCES MAKE FOR GOOD NEIGHBORS.

in Health Disparities: What Iowans Can Learn from a Monkey, an Ambulance, a Fish and a Fence on The Iowa Independent
immigrants need health care Too bad the writer of this article never heard of keep in simple.

First of all, there is no such thing as a free clinic, somebody is paying, usually through taxes.

Hospitals and emergency facilities are closing all over the country where we have high immigration because of nonpayment.

"The needs, values and beliefs of the immigrant population need to be taken into consideration.  They need transportation, babysitters, and free clinics."

Get a grip.  They have access to the same resources as everyone else. They can travel from another country to Iowa on their own, but not to the doctors office. They can get their own babysitters, just like everyone else does.  They have usually have large families to choose from.  Make them dependent of the state and that's what they will be.  Immigrants need to learn to assimilate.

The write of this article is totally unrealistic and impractical.

in Richardson: “My Blood Boils” Over “Ugly” Immigration Questions on The Iowa Independent
My blood boils too It is sad but clear that Richardson is more concerned about his own ethnic group then he is about the welfare of our country.  Maybe that makes my blood boil.  He  was raised in California where the Mexican flag is being raised in many neighborhood with the US flag hung upside down.  The Mexican government allows Mexicans with US citizenship dual citizenship so they can also vote in Mexico.  The Mexican president says that anywhere there is a person with Mexican ancestry there is Mexico.

Clearly illegal immigration has changed the US quality of life where areas of our country look ore like a third world country then the US.  We have been importing Mexico's poverty and paying for it dearly, in our schools, in our hospitals, with our tax dollars,  with criminal gangs, and with depressed wages.

By the way, does Richardson have dual citizenship?

in With Necktie or Without, Obama Runs the Gamut in Cedar Rapids on The Iowa Independent
immigration The US is the best country in the world, and accepts more immigrants then the rest of the world put together.  There is a waiting list to immigrate into this country.  By entering illegally you cut in front of someone who is waiting legally.  The US is unfair to allow that.

John F Kennedy proposed an immigration plan that he thought would be fair to all persons wishing to immigrate into the country.  His plan that the percentage of immigrants from any one country would equal the same percentage of the worlds population and that no more then 10% should be from any one country.  Mexicans were to be granted 8% of our legally accepted immigrants because they were 8% of the worlds population.

Right now we have about 39 million immigrants, one out of every 8 residents, and we have problems accommodating that many people, not just with the cost, but crowding into areas where we already have water shortages.

race disparities Blacks are not sent to prison without a trial or evidence.

Blacks have a higher rate of unwed mothers, and single parents.  As much as you may want to take the blame for failing black Americans, for the most part, only they can change their attitudes about parenting and crime.

in Top Congressional Hispanic: Steve King Damaging GOP Long Term With Key Voters on The Iowa Independent
Reyes is offensive Thank God Congressman King supports his position with facts regarding the cost of illegal immigration.

Congressman Reyes on the other hand, offends me!  He shows that he has more concern over his own ethic group rather then our country. It is not just 20% of Americans who want a border fence and our borders secured.  It is the vast majority, less those who are more concerned with their own agendas then the security of our country.

It is not just Congressman King, but congressman Rorhbacher of California says that several Mexican drug cartels are getting into the illegal alien business and have no hesitation smuggling terrorists.  This aside from the astronical cost of illegal immigration.  Half of Californias current budget deficit is due to illegal immigrants households who cost the state $3,463 in services, and have driven down wages by 44%, overcrowded schools, collapsing emergency rooms, and the rise of vicious criminal gangs.  Rohrbacher says that until the US controls its borders we will continue to have serious problems.  Already more then 20% of Mexico's citizens are now living in the US, and 41% of them are on welfare.  90% of all warrants for the LAPD is for illegals. Murders have doubled this last year.

Currently there is a dispute in the LA Unified School district advisory council disagreeing over whether their meetings should ve conducted in Spanish or English that became so abusive that the meetings have had to be canceled for two months and brought to dispute-resolution counselors.  Most of the Spanish speaking walked out including Guadalupe Aguiar who considers ist racist to be told that in American they have to speak English.

There is more involved in this issue besides Iowa's need for labor.  Just as the welfare of the country should be more important to Reyes then his ethnic group, the welfare of the country should be more important to Iowans then getting cheap labor.

in Storm Lake Times: With Hispanic Immigrants We Are The American Story on The Iowa Independent
illegal immigration The polls show the most Americans want border control and legal immigration.  The CIS shows that illegal immigration cost the tax payer over a trillion dollars a year.  For every dollar the illegals contribute toward taxes, they use three tax dollars in social services.  The taxpayer is paying for the so called cheap labor.  No one is being identified as criminals based of their appearance or country of origin, they are criminals based of the fact they have broken our laws.

As far as amnesty for breaking our laws, that has been tried in the past and proves the theory that what is rewarded is repeated.  Illegal immigrants cost the taxpayer more then the war with Iraq and cause the death of more Americans then the war.  Jesus also said to obey the laws of the land. Families become separated when their family member enters the US illegally and again and if they have anchor babies and leave their babies behind, it is still the choice they made. The points made in this article are obviously emotional and have little to do with the facts.

in Liveblogging the LGBT Democratic Presidential Forum on The Iowa Independent
presidential forum Sexuality is a personal thing between two people.  With all the issues facing the country today, it is downright silly to focus on homosexuality.

We are in war, we have massive illegal immigration, the dollar is going down, we have water shortages, and all this time to homosexuality.

I don't give a darn who sleeps with who, or who is married to who, as long as it's concentual, but I think we should focus on issues that affect everyone.

By the way, the some of the questions asked should be asked to doctors and psychologists, not political candidates, they are not authorities on sex, except Bill Clinton, that is.

in Obama Launches Testimonial Ad to Combat Critics Doubts on The Iowa Independent
Obama I read this article again. Gen McPeak likes Obama, thinks he has courage and good judgement.  Yet after reading the article several times, it is still not clear to me why he thinks so.  Obama has more personality and charisma than other candidates, but not experienced.  By the time he was in office, everyone knew the war was a mistake. McPeak may have reasons to endorse Obama, but they are not explained in the article.  It would seem he hardly knows him and is just in like with him. He definitely is not JFK. John F Kennedy said that we should not have more the 10% of our immigrants from any one country.  He said only 8% of our immigrants should come from Mexico because Mexico had 8% of the world's population.

Obama Frankly it is easy for Obama to say he was always against the Iraq War when he was not in a position to vote for it or against it at the time the war started. It's an unfair advantage over the people who actually had to make the decision.

in Harkin: Mass deportation of Immigrants unrealistic on The Iowa Independent
Harkin The most sensible thing he has to say is that we need to defend our borders.  Why haven't they been doing that already?

We at least need to deport all criminals, enforce immigration laws both at the border and with employers.  If employers do not hire illegals and we do not give them welfare, many will return to their countries on their own.

Hunter The point is that the plant is running with legal workers.  I do not know whose facts are correct Hunter's or yours, but I do know that illegal immigration has depressed wages for Americans by an average of 44%.  I also know that jobs is meat packing at one time were good paying jobs.  That figures that Hunter quoted were the same as in other papers articles.  It is your figures that are inconsistent.

in Bold base-bucking McCain back - on immigration at least on The Iowa Independent
McCain back McCain may have a base in Iowa, but he is out of the race.  There must be different polls, but the Rasmussen polls contradict the one you just quoted.  Any attempt at amnesty will be defeated.  Why do you think as many times as they tried to sneak it in, it has failed.  Amnesty has not worked, each time it has been tried, illegal immigration increased.  Amnesty is unfair to legal immigrants.

in McCain: Not Dead, but Neither Was Terri Schiavo on The Iowa Independent
McCain not dead McCain is not in the running because of his position on Amnesty, which over 59% of the country opposes.  The reason why illegal aliens are called aliens rather then immigrants is because an immigratant applies to a person who migrates legally.

Romney is a good candidate, as is both Tancredo and Huckabee. Huckabee however, once criticised ICE for not giving illegals warning of a raid so that they could make arrangements for the care of the children. Sorry folks, you cannot warn someone of a bust and expect to have a successful bust.  They put themselves and their families in that position by not respecting our immigration laws.

in Racist King Sees Iowa in White and Brown on The Iowa Independent
Claim that King is Racist Douglas Burns is judging Steve Kings's character, but not providing very little support for his conclusion. Grow your own plan, does not sound like a good solution for a worker shortage, but neither does not make him a racist.

I find people resort to calling names rather then making their point through logic, probably can't make their point with logic.

As far a latinization of Iowa is concerned, this is a cultural issue, not a racist issue.  Many hispanics are Americans.  They love this country and our cultural melting pot.  On the other hand the Mexican government is currently encouraging their poor to migrate illegally, ignoring our immigration laws, and telling them where ever there is a Mexican, there is Mexico. This is a quote from the current Mexican president.  Thus many come here to exploit this country, but remain loyal to Mexico, wave the Mexican flag, etc.  This is a culture class, not racist.  They are taught in Mexico that America stole their land.  LaRaza means the race.  It actually is the Mexicans who are racist.  Now we may disagree here, but I think that if you immigrate to a country, it is up to you to assimilate, not put another countries flag on your property.  This dear Douglas is a culture clash.  Those who come legally and show respect for our country, who cares about their color?

The following is a post in SanDiego:

As an American citizen of Mexican decent, I find this to be really sad. If I had to estimate what percentage of these illegal immigrants really came here for working purposes I would place at less than 5%. My mother once told me that an illegal immigrant once struck up a conversation with her in a grocery store. While speaking to my mother in Spanish she explained how the stupid Americans had the nerve to call "them" stupid. As she explained, they (illegal immigrants) come here and received everything for free while the Americans work all their lives and for what??? When my mother expressed her outrage and informed her that she was born and raised in this country the conversation abruptly ended. BTW, this illegal immigrant was purchasing a one grocery cart full of beef with food stamps to carry out to her catering truck

in Four Iowa Reps Vote For Tancredo Amendment - Only Loebsack Opposed on The Iowa Independent
Tancredo amendment We have needed this bill for a long time.  Some cities have no protection literally from illegal immigrant petty crimes because of sanctuary city policies.  For instance if you read blogs from Americans in San Diego, when their homes are broken into or a bicycle stolen, the police do not arrest, though the  perp is just in the bushes.  The reason is that it costs the city too much to jail and provide legal aid.  Then when an illegal is arrested, the police are not allowed to cooperate with ICE.  The reason given is that the illegal community will not cooperate with the police.  Illegal aliens make camps to avoid having to rent so that they can send their incomes to Mexico.  They camp behind people homes and in meadows that are create fire hazards.  Whereas the police will force American homeless out of camps, illegals are tolerated. Don't know the reason for this.  But nearby homes are broken into frequently, children witness adult males urinating in the parks, even deficating in public.  Bicycles, cars and other property is stolen.  Too bad for citizens. In Los Angeles, another sanctuary city, the major is a former Latino gang associate.  Communities are terrorized by the gangs and tax dollars are spent on the so called gang problem which would be reduced by three fourths if illegals were deported. Almost all warrants for murder is for illegal aliens,  John Deeth need only check the LAPD website.  Just imagine what the city spends on graffiti alone.

I say, thank God something is finally going to be done about sanctuary cities.  Maybe the crime will be cleaned up at last, and yes, that means deportation.

I also agree with Tancredo.
