in Amazon Purchases Hand Written Book From Author J.K. Rowling on Thom Allen Weblog
Rebecca, I'm all for fan fiction. I have three Star Trek fan pieces about ready for release. Of course I'm not really interested in marketing them for money since I'm sure there are a lot of legal issues involved. But that doesn't mean I can't share my works with others.
What I wish is more franchise owners, like Rowling, would agree to let fans write additional stories after they have completed the series. Fan stories will never eat into sales of the original authors series, so it should be a no brainer. What a great way to continue building brand recognition.

Thanks Guy for stopping by. I'm more intrigued with flash fiction that I thought I might be. I found your list of submission sites very helpful. I need to find more. Thanks.

in My Moleskine Crashed Hard on Thom Allen Weblog
@daveterry just picked up a set of Uniball RT 0.38's. Nice pen. Although I think in the end I'll use something else because they feel so small in my hand. I like a bigger pen where I can wrap my big hands around it.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Thanks for all great comments. I did go out and buy several new Moleskines yesterday. I'm going to work on them this week end. I want to see if there are any cool new hacks out there I've haven't seen.
I did buy one exclusively for my writing ideas. I'm reading a book called Writing Fiction from Gotham Writers' Workshop, and in there it talks about having some place where you write thoughts, ideas, characters, maybe even some amount of story line. I didn't have anything exclusive for that but now I do.
So this should be fun trying to get things working again.

Thanks. I've used cards in the past, in fact I'm looking at about 5 packs of 3x5 cards unopened. Tried the hipster PDA, but wasn't quiet what I was looking for. I do have the gym workouts on cards though, they work great.

Thanks Douglas. After having a night to calm down and think about it, I will be buying more Moleskine's. My anger isn't that I lost the books but the data in the books.
I did go back to the area where I thought I had lost my books and wouldn't you know it I found one of the Moleskines and one standard notebook. The Moleskine was damaged beyond repair as it laid in snow all night, and had been run over several times.
I was able to get some info, but most of the text was written with an ink pen and was smeared.
I did take a picture and you can see them here.

Douglas,
That is the right area. after reading a few other sites it seems nothing will show up there unless you've visited a site that is partnered with Facebook. I could be wrong but that's how I read it.

in Attended My First KenCon Tonight on Thom Allen Weblog
Hey Douglas, yes I agree, surrounding myself with those who are successful is something I've always tried to do.
The meet up was great. Very informal. Everyone had some great stories and most importantly getting published. It was very cool.

in Elements of a Personal Brand on Chris Brogan
@Will that's what I do, ask everyone if they know Chris Brogan, and surprisingly a lot do!
I learned something about my brand the other day, when someone said "I see you connect with a lot of people but what do you do?" Ouch, I never looked at it like that before. The brand I thought I had doesn't seem to exist. Maybe it never has except in my mind.
This is a great post Chris. It will keep my mind going all day.

I had not seen Gordon Bells project, wow, that is exactly where I wanted to take this series, that there is more to life streaming than a blog.
The subsequent posts will head in that direction. Thanks for sharing those links Scott.

Darlene,
Yes, I think I saw the archive link on Darren's site too, but a good friend of mine also recommended I do it.
Is this also known as deep linking?

No, it was me. I changed the link URL and misspelled my own damn domain. Duh, what a moron. I didn't even follow my own advice on this one. Thanks for pointing this out. I've fixed the link though.

in Get Your Blog Readers Involved, Hold A Contest on Thom Allen Weblog
I wanted to follow up with another link demonstrating how you can get your readers involved. Liz Strauss held a party for her blogs Second Birthday. She asked her readers to bring a gift to the party in the form of a blog post. Here is what she asked for:
"Bring a link to a page, a picture, a post that demonstrates, celebrates, illuminates your success and outstanding-ness as a blogger."
Great job Liz. Check out how many comments she got on this post. At the time of this writing it was 671. Fantastic.

Hey Jordy, yeah, you're going to start seeing names on birth certificates like thom.allen.com, or code snippets like Bill "if(age < 18) then deny access" Smith.
We should come up with some type of generator that creates names in code. Fun.

in Make Sure Your Blog Is Mobile Compliant on Thom Allen Weblog
Doug, hey, glad to hear from you. As far as Blogger is concerned, I just typed in thomallen.blogspot.com and it appeared to render correctly in my Windows Mobile 5 browser. You're welcome to try it out.
I noticed you use Blogger and your site appears to render great on my MDA, so it could be an iPhone thing.
As for PodcampSLC yes, I am working on the event right now. We have the domains and are trying to get things going and would love to have you participate. We are meeting about it in the next few weeks, and should have a few more SLC Bloggers helping out. Thanks for asking, and I'll send more info via email.
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.
