in How exactly is this making a difference? on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
Tangible difference? Doubtful.

But I'm going to do it anyway.

in Time is not money on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
May I suggest that we change...

Time + energy + skill = value.

To

Time * energy * skill = value.

With any of those variables low, value is low.

in What marketing should learn from the Obama campaign on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
Absolutely Chris.

Here's where this gets *really* interesting. What will President-elect Obama and eventually President Obama do with this marketing power?

I, for one, can't wait to see the results.

I knew I starred this post in Google Reader for a reason.

You're doing a great job treating your customers as people, Chris. It makes all the difference.

in Watch this Justin.tv video from PodCamp NYC on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
I'm not involved enough to debate the price of Podcamp. What I do know, however, is that people get what they give. Taking advantage of another person's hard work for personal gain, especially in an immature way, goes a long way toward damaging one's brand - and even his or her karma, if you're into that sort of thing.

I am.

in Marketing Sucks on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
I obviously agree that marketing has a branding problem. But then again, I'm not the average consumer. I'm one of those people who refuses to watch TV because of the ads. Yeah, one of those people.

Watching people market themselves on twitter is just testing how much humility one can handle. There are people like Jason Calacanis who boisterously pimp their services left and right, but there are others like Chris Brogan and Laura Fitton who market themselves and their services by being human.

It'll be hard to rebrand marketing due to the jaded people out there, like me. But, I think you're well on your way.

At any given time, I have 10 TED talks and 10 episodes of This American Life on my iPod. Never go without some type of content, but don't get caught up in listening to it all.

in Why The Rick Astley YouTube Rickroll Matters on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
You wouldn't get this (kind of post) from any other guy. I just want to tell you how I'm feeling. I've got to make you understand...

...that Rick Rolling really is a social phenomenon, and YouTube pulling this sort of stunt overall helps them. For the people who get it, they're thrilled! For the people who don't get it, what's going to happen? They're not going to use YouTube anymore? Unlikely.

Although marketers will look to these numbers and salivate, they're just going to have to try to keep going viral.

in Unsponsored Review: SuperDuper on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
SuperDuper! is pretty awesome. I wish I could have used it the last time I sent my MacBook Pro in for repair, but, my spare machine couldn't run Leopard, so I was out of luck.

I did use it in lieu of the migration assistance once though, and it worked flawlessly.

I'm trying to make sense of tagging and its importance in a world of in-depth search, and this starts to explain its importance.

in Viral is not word of mouth on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
It's a good line to draw, but I think the distinction (for the masses) will go the way of the terms hacker v. cracker (http://urltea.com/2b65).

I've lost enough people to that game.

in Social Media College Application on Financial Aid Podcast Weekly Internet Radio Show
Super-interesting.

On my blog I recently announced the schools I'm applying to, and I'm working full-time on essays and applications (http://exposay.net/2007/11/11/let-us-begin-with...), so this topic is on my mind.

I think that maybe a more simple approach than you described might work for someone who isn't going with the arts or sports approach. On the "Additional Information" box, say something along the lines of:

"Regrettably, I think most college applications fail to capture who the applicant is. In order to correct this, here is a link to my personal blog online where you can see my writing, web design, and movies that I have created. http://exposay.net/"

I'll play with this idea in my head.

That was a great video. It was enjoyable to watch, the music was good, and the footage was a treat in comparison to the crappy quality of web video these days.

Leo, I think you guys underestimated Leopard on MacBreak Weekly. From what I've read, Leopard is much faster than Tiger on Intel machines. I'm not certain about PowerPC Macs, though.

Have fun!

Leo, be careful with your uploads... specifically the pixel sizes of them.
