1. None taken. It's just a temporary solution until the cocomment team can implement it. I'm sure there's more pressing issues, they're swamped with feature requests and bugfixing (not to mention server load).

2. I disagree. I think it's wonderful that we can bypass the "conversation nazis" and make our voice heard without his/her approval. In fact, we could create a whole little subculture around Comments That Were Never Posted.
In my opinion there is no libel issue.

3. I never thought of that. Big problem once the spammers figure it out. On the other hand, isn't the whole thing javascript-based? A bot would have to understand javascript then (most of them don't) and could still only "post" to its own Conversations page. To prevent the spam from appearing on your site, you could check "Show comments written by me only" (which arguably limits the usefulness of the box).

4. RSS is too darned complicated already. Let's find a way to syndicate NNTP instead. I mean it.

Just a minor *cough" correction: According to their website, they are "Currently in the final design stages". That's not quite the same as "final stages of creation".

They don't give a timeline on when they plan to start building the thing; given the many unknown factors involved in this type of project, it might well take until 2021 before you can actually take a vacation there.

Désolé d'avoir raté le second Bloggy Friday - je suis juste retourné ce soir, de mes vacances dans le sud de la France, à Gruisson.

Deux semaines de chaleur, soleil, plage... les enfants étaient très content, et nous aussi. Même le petit Tim a baigné dans la mer, pour la première fois. Les fotos suivent dans quelques jours, j'espère.

The only jewelry I have is my wedding ring. I used to take it off at night. But in February, when I was on holidays alone, I kept wearing it at night to remind me of my wife and kids (yes, horribly romantic, I know). Since then I almost never take it off at all.

Schön zu sehen, dass mein Psychologie-Studium doch nicht völlig umsonst war: Das ist nicht ein typisch japanisches Phänomen, es kommt in allen Ländern und Schichten vor und wird von den Psycho- / Soziologen als diffusion of responsibility bezeichnet. Kurzfassung:"Hat ja genügend andere Leute, sollen doch die schauen!"

Diese Problematik kennen sicher alle, z.B. beim randalierenden Alki an der Kasse, kiffende Teenies in der Bahn, etc.

Die Jahreszeiten nerven mich nur, wenn sie ihre Pflicht nicht erfüllen. Fades Regenwetter im Frühling, wo's doch eigentlich wild, rauh und stürmisch sein sollte. Oder die warmen Winter, die wir in den letzten Jahren hatten. Sowas ärgert mich. Aber so richtig Winter mit Kälte und Schnee ist sehr schön, ebenso wie richtig Sommer mit Hitze und Sonnenschein!

Yepp, I noticed the missing trailing slashes... fixing that on my end will solve a problem or two. Of course if someone submits domain/path/index.html at your site, but domain/path/ at my site, that could result in conflicts too. Since most new blogs are coming from blog.ch anyway, it might not be such a big deal though.

@Steph, couldn't agree more. swissblogs.com has a lot of French-language blogs, perhaps if we could use them in blogug.ch and blog.ch we'd get a more accurate result next year? And of course that still doesn't mean we have every single CH-Blog. It's just the best data we have, which is better than none at all IMHO :-).

@Patrice, does planet.blogug.ch now aggregate ALL blogs on the list, or still only those that ping it? Or should I start aggregating everything and just not publish everything on the frontpage? I'm OK with aggregating right-wing blogs like the Freiheitspartei, but I sure won't show their hate-mongering on my frontpage. Just as an example :-). And then there are some blogs that I am forbidden to aggregate; I guess I'd have to pass on those, too.

Patrice, I agree - manual trackbacks work very well. And they're much more personal than all that automated stuff anyway. In fact, I think trackbacks take away from the conversational aspect of weblogs. I'm just too used to them working, that's all :-).

Diese aktuelle Ãœbersicht existiert seit Jahren: Das wichtigste deutschsprachige Verzeichnis ist blogg.de mit Ã¼ber 60'000 deutschsprachige Blogs aus Deutschland, Ã–sterreich, der Schweiz, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg etc.

Andere Blogverzeichnisse fÃ¼r den deutschen Sprachraum gibt's wie Sand am Meer. Ist ja auch keine grosse Kunst, mit WP-Plugins oder fertigen Scripts ist sowas blitzschnell installiert. Vermutlich wird deshalb in nÃ¤chster Zeit eine richtige Verzeichnisflut auf uns zukommen, Ã¤hnlich wie das bei den Foren der Fall war.

Einfach ein weiteres Blogverzeichnis finde ich persÃ¶nlich deshalb nicht besonders spannend; viel interessanter wÃ¤re doch, wenn Du in einer bestimmten Nische eine qualitativ hochwertige Dienstleistung anbieten kÃ¶nntest, die den Nutzern einen echten Mehrwert bietet. Das hÃ¤tte sicherlich echte Ãœberlebenschancen. Bedingt aber auch etwas mehr Programmier- und Verwaltungsaufwand.

Also ich sehe auf blogg.de "Die neuesten Postings aus der BlogosphÃ¤re". Das ist das Praktische an einem Aggregator, nur die aktuellen BeitrÃ¤ge (und damit die aktuellen Blogs) werden angezeigt.

Im Verzeichnis hat's dann allerdings schon Leichen. Dem kÃ¶nnte er abhelfen indem er einfach automatisch alles rauswirft, was lÃ¤ngere Zeit nicht mehr aktualisiert wurde. Beim Weblogverzeichnis scheint das von Hand gemacht zu werden, was natÃ¼rlich etwas abhÃ¤ngig vom Engagement des Betreibers ist (auf der Seite ist mir auch nicht ganz klar, ob jetzt der 16.10.2005 gilt oder der 04.12.2004).

Auf deine Meckereien geh ich mal gar nicht ein, wer das hier gelesen hat weiss ja, wie's tatsÃ¤chlich aussieht :-).

Ja, manchmal gibt's Probleme! Aber nur noch 2x/Tag etwas neues, das ist wohl etwas Ã¼bertrieben.

Uralte Feeds: Jupp, das kenn ich. Ich zÃ¼gle gerade hÃ¤ppchenweise die Site, aber die 60MB-DB mit allen BeitrÃ¤gen ist noch nicht drÃ¼ben. Welche BeitrÃ¤ge sind von 2004, damit ich die aus der DB putzen kann? Ich vermute mal, das sind Feeds ohne korrekte Datumsangabe?

Ich find's gut, dass du bei mir mithilfst und immer gleich meldest, wenn was nicht klappt! Merci!

Bullshit, Leu. Wir wissen alle, dass die anderen Schweizer Blog-Verzeichnisse bei blog.ch abschreiben. Das ist einfach ein fact of life. Das und das nerven mich einfach aktuell ein wenig. Und das habe ich in unseren E-Mails auch erwÃ¤hnt; merkwÃ¼rdig dass du das unterschlÃ¤gst, wenn du doch sonst kein Problem hast, private Post ohne RÃ¼ckfrage zu publizieren. Also tu nicht so Ã¼berheblich.

@Sam, keinewegs. Es geht nicht darum. Von mir aus kann es hundert Sites mit exakt denselben Blogs wie auf blog.ch geben. Der Punkt ist, dass sie die Blogs nicht bei mir klauen sollen. Was Leu laut eigener Aussage (siehe mein vorheriger Kommentar) durchaus schon gemacht hat.

This is utter nonsense. The quality of a resource has nothing whatsoever to do with the MIME type. The poster obviously completely misunderstands what MIME types are, and what their scope is. I urge him to read up on the available documentation.
