If McCain was a Democrat, Republicans would be playing up the Solzhenitsyn story, as well as the way the Green Bay Packers starting lineup suddenly became Steelers when McCain repeated that story in Pennsylvania. Maybe he's pandering, or maybe he really doesn't recall. I don't know, but I'm suspecting the latter. However, Democrats aren't Republicans, and until it's proven McCain lifted his story, we're not going to do more than look into it. Don't expect a swiftboat ad on soon. Seems like he should be vulnerable enough for not knowing Sunnis from Shias, and for saying "Next stop, Baghdad!" in January 2002.

The 27% for Faris is the number that will vote for any DFLer. I would too, even though I hate her effort to undercut Franken. Why is she doing this? And does she think she'll ever get a party endorsement after this?

Don't blame all Minnesotans for the 6th district. It's the most conservative in the state. Probably the only one she could win. Far better to help the 6th district Democrats who are trying to defeat her.

I love the irony that he accuses the VFW of playing politics by refusing to sponsor a political rally. Like Stephen Colbert said, reality has a well-known liberal bias.

The problem might be asking just about the last year. My home's value has declined precipitously since I bought it in early 2006, but I'm not as sure it's dropped in the last year. If the question asked about the last two years or since a given year, that might get a more realistic answer.

Anytime Pawlenty tries to use that phrase "Sam's Club Conservatives", we need to remind "Sam's Club Conservatives" that the country club conservatives they resent for looking down on them are the same people who own Sam's Club. In case anyone is unclear, Sam's Club is owned by Walmart.

It's a shame that the routine dishonesty of Republicans politicians and pundits has reached down to the grassroots like that. It's as if she's so sure she's right, that anything she does is OK, even lying about what Sarvi had just said.

Who cares that she said "Minneapolis" instead of "Twin Cities" or "St. Paul"? The lies she told without challenge on oil drilling and who blocked alternative energy funding are what are driving Republican gains in the polls. Let's keep our eyes on the ball folks!

The way I hope the Obama campaign responds is to point out that Paris Hilton's parents donated the maximum to his campaign, and he responds by attacking their daughter. That's the real McCain.

Why is there this bizarre assumption on the part of Democrats, apparently nationally and not just DFL, that Coleman was a weak candidate? His approval rating hovering at 50% are just a sign of vulnerability, not that he's going to lose. That's the core fault with that Observer story, besides a questionable analogy to the 1994 Virginia race. The only thing I might fault Franken for is staying too long with an endorsement campaign and saving the good Coleman attacks for the base. Good ads have been web-only, but they have to go on TV to have an impact. The Republicans went into general election mode earlier, and they're riding this advantage. I'm frustrated Franken isn't hitting Coleman much harder on repeated factual misstatements, but I never expected an easy win and it's far too early to give up.

In a ay I don't expect better of these right-wing talkers, and I know the authorities of the law are disinclined to do anything about it, but I can't help recalling that threats aren't free speech. Baker's statement isn't as clear "I'm going to get a machine gun and kill them," but it's getting close. It seems like calling for someone to be killed should cross a legal line.

Let us hope that somewhere is a bodyguard service that specializes in protecting against snarky comments.

Coleman told another whopper from the Republican talking points about oil drilling. He recently said, "We had the worst natural disaster in the history of this country Katrina, and there wasn't a drop of oil spilled." This point, so far as I know, hasn't been used nearly as much as the China claim, but I'm pretty sure I heard McCain say it too.

I've noticed that when people make bizarre allegations, like in Paulose in her quote above, they're often doing exactly what they (usually falsely) accuse others of doing. This is a great example, since Paulose and the higher-ups in the DOJ were doing to liberals exactly what they claimed was being done to conservatives --- even though conservatives were in charge.

I'm no fan of Bachmann, but connecting her booze campaign in college to donation in this decade is a bit of a stretch. It might be legitimate to point out that someone who parades herself as so religious takes money from the alcohol industry, though that might not conflict with her beliefs.
