Amen, brother. Could not possibly agree more. I'm turned off by SM simply because of the avarice and the self-promotion that it's become on so many levels. Damn shame, because I think of all the wonderful things that could happen if the so-called 'mavens' and self-proclaimed 'experts' would return their focus to the original intention. :)
Nicely done, sir.

in Koontz got your eye? on The Broad Brush
I have to tell you that my PERSONAL all time Koontz favorite is Strangers. Twilight Eyes is a close second. Then the Chris Snow books, Fear Nothing & Seize The Night. But I love 'em all. I'm eagerly anticipating Odd Hours. :)

Thank you akaMonty. Strangers and Twilight Eyes are in the top running, as well as Fear Nothing and Seize the Night. I'm leaning towards those at this writing as they are a pair of books.
What I'll do is draw names for the folks that recommended the same book as I chose. Set someone up with a $10 gift certificate on Amazon.
Thanks again everyone.

in Writing Effective Blog Posts on Chris Brogan
I think I'm one of the few people who doesn't really take blogging (I mean to say, MY blogging) seriously. Your tips are all fantastic and I'm sure very helpful, especially for people who are targeting and specific. I think a lot of people will definitely benefit from your advice.
My approach is more like Dungeekin's...something strikes me funny, makes me angry, hurts me - it somehow develops itself into a post.
I've gotten emails that say that people like it because it's in a conversational tone and they can hear me saying the same thing.
Sometimes blogging isn't about "good writing". Sometimes it's just about heart and soul. :)

in Do You Feel Blogger Vibes? on Marina's Musings
It's not just you. :) Happens to me ALL the time...I even get irritated at my favorite bloggers for similar reasons sometimes!
What helps for ME is to realize that some people (including myself) aren't always good at conveying what we're feeling, and instead it comes off as something else to some eyes. The nature of the internet, I think.
Speaking for myself, I know that sometimes things I say are phrased in a way that seem to mean one thing, when in actuality I meant something quite different.
I get a lot of emails questioning my intent. hehehe

"...giving us a way to reach out and connect." I was having a discussion on my show Friday night about that very thing--for me, it's about the connections I make. That's why I blog, broadcast, and podcast. I love the feeling of connection I get with my readers and listeners...not for the ego, but for...the finding of kindred minds.
I'm not that smart about getting the word out there--I feel like the shy girl at the party and I don't want to stand up and say HEY! LOOK AT ME!.
Perhaps it's a fear of rejection. :)
I, for one, appreciate the links that you put forth on Twitter, because I find new sites, new people, and new information.
