why go through the motions?
We dont want someone to put on a show. If it isnt there, why fake it?

He is good....and He is just. I dont always understand the difference between the two. But I'm glad your friend is alive and well. I have a friend who had a big heart scare....made all kinds of promises to God, turned his life around. But as time marches on, he has forgotten all about Who Saved him. .... kind of sad.

I really love this analogy of grace!
Pardoned turkeys....but do I just run off into the woods, or do I share that message.
Thanks for pricking my conscience!

Jennifer. I love what you said about "thanks"
it seems so trivial....
But I know that the RLB exercise .. and the previous one sponsored here on "retreat " -- has really got me thinking.
I'm involved in so many things I dont any of them right. SOOOO, I'm working on it.
I actually said 'no' to leading a "Truth Project" 12 week class. I felt guilty. Then I felt good.
Marcus, your concept of rest is pretty intriguing. Rest is found in discovering the wonder of life. And, according to the commandments, it takes time to discover all of that.

Your comment on language really struck me. Its almost like we speak in code, a secret language no one else understands. Then, when we present the gospel, we don't know how to do it in real-talk. WE almost need to hand them a cipher book!

And think about this. If "survival of the fittest" is the law of nature, what's next for the human race? What will we evolve into?

Marcus, you said to Heather that you hadn't heard about the argument of "death not coming before the fall."
The fall of Adam brought death, not just to man, but to all of creation. Romans 8 says that Creation groans and "eagerly awaits the revelation of God's children."
Before the fall, Adam and Eve would have lived forever. They were vegetarians! That's why Christ, as Heather states, came. He came to take us away from the penalty, from the stench of death. Thats why in eternity, there will be no more death -- it will be Eden again.
Morphing evolution with creationism is tough to do -- not just explaining away Genesis -- but figuring out what do with Jesus' sacrifice. Without the resurrection...and our resurrection into new life, it would have been in vain. And if it was in vain, then what in the world are we doing with this crazy faith?

I guess I too have a hint of sadness when I see doubt creep in to our dialogue. If God is who he says He is (powerful, creative, in control), then why is Creation not something he can do? And the 'science' is far from conclusive.
To believe in anything but Creation, is to tell God that he's just not able, and maybe, as J.B. Phillips put it, "Your God is too small."
If you don't believe in creation, then just for a minute, think about this: "Where does space end" and then "When did time begin and when does it end." If you're honest, those three questions will short-circuit your brain, unless God enters the conversation. Then it becomes totally rational.
I never want to limit what God can do based on my logic, my intelligence or my research. that's the power of the unchained life!

in Joel Hunter: What the Candidates Forum Could Have Been on God's Politics
I like what you said about asking the 'whys' of decisions. I dont really want a politican to make moral choices (which many, if not most of our laws are fundamentally so) based on how it will poll or how it might hurt them in a future election. i want them to do it from the heart.
People of faith are really not stupid The people I know are thoughtful, articulate and deep thinkers. Just because a politician uses 'buzz words' like "lord and savior' and "walked the isle" and "prayer warriors" doesnt necessarily mean me and my friends will take that leap.
We'll be watching and waiting.

if we require them to learn our language first. Instead, we have to learn
THEIR language. In the US this can be particularly tricky because so many
people claim Christianity. It seems like we're always starting with damage
control.
