in Postmortem on St. Louis’ Largest Tweetup Ever on St. Louis Social Media Report
The key things to success of a tweetup:
you show up, someone else shows up, you have fun, meet people
bonus:
lots of people, good food, good drinks
This had everything but 'lots', and I'd say the number that did show up was plenty.
Was Rex a little out in front of his own popularity? Could be. Could be too he picked a really lousy night and the people that did turn up constitutes a fine amount.
I say the more tweetups the better as long as they don't suck. This one did not suck.
I didn't attend with the anticipation of it actually being the largest. For me it's always about connecting and breaking bread together. If I get in a little flirting, a good beer and some hugs, I'm really happy. By the way, Rex didn't give me a hug, flirt with me, nor buy me a beer. He's not on my short list anymore. ;)
Cheers.

in Bring a Tweep to Lunch-June 26 Edition on St. Louis Social Media Report
The Bring a Tweep To Lunch description is spot on Greg. And they aren't about me. I'd love to think folks get hooked on them and continue them on their own.
St. Louis SEO, i'd love to see folks host them on other days and times. Greg's idea to do something more formal is a must. These Friday events are meant to be informal and an introduction to the idea of regular gatherings and sharing.
The Friday works out great for some, not so great for others. Heck, Thursday might be better for most, but not for me. If someone wants to take them to Thu, I'd encourage them to step up and rock on. I'll be supporting them in spirit when I can't attend.
My next project is going to spin off to some breakfasts, less scheduled, and still informal.
For the small biz events, I say we should schedule one in July Greg and make it happen.

I'm anxious to get on with this.
The actual URL is http://www.facebook.com/username/ for users to get their own.
As I write this, about 14 minutes left until it opens.

in Adding Google Friend Connect is an example of how hard it is to join the 2010 web on Scobleizer
Well, I've used FTP for years, so that wasn't a stumbling block for me. That said, it sure is for most folks. Especially those that do one-click blog installs or even had someone do it for them.
Google should definitely do up a widget on this. Seems straightforward enough.
On the other hand, I've seen almost zero value from this being on my blog, or anyone else's. Where is it going? I see a previous comment mentions future functionality but for right now it's a glorified visitor roll call.
PS. If you don't know your FTP info, check the FAQ on your hosting site, or your account information there. Often mentioned there.

This is occurring more frequently for me as well. That food either isn't prepped correctly or it's the wrong order all together.

in On My Mind on Nordquist Blog
Man, that's a win either way. The truth is man was meant to have some solitude. That's why there's a word for it. :)
Being off from work for an extended period right now, I've had a chance to experience real solitude. Not that cheap 5 minutes away or evening off, but actual whole days with just myself. Man, very refreshing.
Not something I'd want forever, but to have time to really just absorb and be one between you and the universe is a wonderful opportunity. Men used to do that before we became so 'civilized'.
Enjoy your family, but make time for yourself. Take a day away. Get up early. Leave and don't come back till the kids are in bed.

in What Makes a Friend on Nordquist Blog
For me a friend can be different meanings. But truth be told I want it to mean someone that I can trust and be comfortable with. Someone for which I don't have to put a face on all the time. Someone that ignores the warts or even relishes their uniqueness.
True friends of that level are hard to find.
I work the next level down though and find much satisfaction. Friend include there folks I can chat with, share a drink with or break bread with. That's the group I'm working on growing. From those will come the life long friends in the top list.
To each of those I show the love I can when I can. I listen, I laugh, and I cry with them. I offer to share a meal, a drink, a card. Cultivate and enjoy I say.

in 12 Things to Stop Doing in 2009 on Chris Brogan
Not doing is darn near impossible unless you are actively doing something else. What a great reminder.
Of your things to quit doing...
Stop writing about Twitter - yes, and no. I think what'd I'd say for myself is stop writing about Twitter the tool, and start writing about using social networking to accomplish something besides talking about social networking.
Stop doing it all yourself - let me know when I can hire on. :)
Things I'll work on to quit doing -
-Leaving 'great post' comments.
-Spam my networks with empty posts.
-Focus on only one tool to share and listen on.
-Being passive about exploring my network.
-Waiting for others to work on great ideas.
Things I will work on doing -
-Giving great feedback on posts - be they blog, microblog, video, etc.
-Creating value.
-Getting to know the real people in my network.
-Turning my experiences into profit - for myself, my family, my friends, my network
Things I'd like to be part of in 2009 -
-Support local nonprofits
-Sponsoring a new voice
-Teaching what I know
Cheers to a great year ahead in 2009. May you and I find opportunities to work together.
Todd

in 27 Blogging Secrets to Power Your Community on Chris Brogan
Chris,
You've been doing a great job this year. This tip list is a great round up. Some of these I've already been doing and can second your recommendations on. Others I'll be giving a try.
A favorite of mine from your list is linking out to other blogs. This definitely fuels the network.
Another favorite is the no registration required note. I've not commented on blogs this year where I really loved the post because a registration for that blog was required.
Cheers to a great 2009.

in Just Make Me Look Handsome on Nordquist Blog
"Just make me look handsome" <- great line.
I should try that once my hair grows back out.
I was never anti-barber, and in fact learned to deal w/it much better in the Navy. Got used to the clean feel after a cut. Was even better when they still lathered up your neck for a razor shave, but alas that's no more.
Fun post.

My money saving tip for the holidays:
Instead of planning to buy something to eat while you're out shopping, packs snacks and waters. The waters will save you on the sodas. That alone would save our family quite a bit of money on holiday shopping trips.
