in Leitão Assado da Bairrada with Tinto Espumante: A Truly Sensory Experience on Catavino
Hahaha yes it's very true! It seemed that way to me in the beginning since I was seeking out all the fresh fish I could after having a far less comparable selection in the US! But now I'm all about the meat and definitely want to go back to Bairrada soon to try some more Espumantes :)

in Wine Tourism in Sherry Country and a Lesson from Portugal on Catavino
Wow, I didn't know it was such a challenge to visit the Sherry bodegas! You know I was just up North in that area a couple weekends ago and the Port houses were actually the only ones open in the entire region it seemed. We tried to visit several wineries in Minho and all of them were closed, whether they were on holiday or it was only by appointment, and even one of their phone numbers was disconnected. It's definitely frustrating and I think there are still a lot of other wineries in Iberia who need to take your suggestion!

Hahaha I had the same reaction when I was writing it! I'm glad you enjoyed it, it truly was a diverse yet balanced set of flavors in that meal, hope you get the chance to experience it sometime!

in The Best Portuguese Peasant Stew: Cozido à Portuguesa on Catavino
Hahaha that's great! I still haven't tried Cozido yet but you know what, all the local restaurants around here will post a sign on the window when they have it on the menu that day, just gotta get among the locals! I know what you mean about the potatoes, every time I get them with lunches here, they look so plain and sad but they taste so friggin good and melt in your mouth because they cook them to death in that kind of broth also! Now I definitely have to get up north soon where hopefully it's a bit cooler there right now to enjoy such a stew :p

in A Belem Lunch with a Portuguese White Wine on Catavino
Hahaha I didn't even realize that's what BSE stood for! I actually never thought to find out, guess I was enjoying the wine so much :p Didn't know also that the term BSE is connected with mad cow disease ugh! I'll stick with my BSE in wine :)

in Another Iberian Winery Sent to the Sidebar - Cortes de Cima on Catavino
Alright! The first Portuguese winery blog! I'll have to take a trip down to Alentejo one weekend soon and check them out. I definitely agree about bringing Syrah to the region, in general I always think Alentejo wines reminded me a bit of the Southern California style reds, that hot ripe fruit flavor with the high alcohol that you have to be careful of if you're drinking at a cocktail party hahaha :p Hopefully I'll be adding another voice from there soon!
