I use your "Networking" the most, it never fails.

I didn't know twitterholic had the location search. That's awesome! WeFollow doesn't hold a candle to them for location.

Friend or Follow is pretty useful as well, if only for the fact that you don't have to go through dozens of pages to find those people!

For desktop/iPhone apps, I would add Tweetie. I also just heard about Spaz, which is Adobe Air (Windows, Mac, Linux) AND PalmPre

in @lazyweb can I sync google calendar <-> iphone such that i can add events to either and have them always match? how? for free? on LazyTweet
I think BusySync does it ($40) - they have a tutorial posted on their site to a similar effect, though I have not tried it yet.

@Jennifer sorry about that, it just seemed like a lot of emphasis was placed on the Jabber client.

I actually like the idea, but I just don't know how often I would use it. I always have my web browser open, but not always IM.

I also think companies embracing Ubiquity while it is still so new is probably a good thing - it seems they're more likely to attract the early adopter types if they're very buzzword-compliant.

I still like 30boxes, because they SMS me my reminders. I am not often sitting near my IM client when I am about to go to a meeting.

What I really want is the ability to host ALL my content on one domain name, if I want, or keep them all in different places, if that's what I need. There is a really interesting project called DiSo (Distributed Social Networking), which is initially a set of WordPress plugins, that aims to help you aggregate and control your own personal firehose, and provide a great home for your identity, through things like OpenID and OAuth.

I wonder how many revisions they did, and how much money they spent.

I started using the Facebook IM in my Adium (you can also use it with Pidgin or one of the other Windows clients with a plugin), and it broke whenever I would switch over to the new facebook. I'm not sure if they changed that, but the chat would sign me out every time I switched to new facebook.

There's a lot of stuff to read here and it's late - I almost wonder if these should all be separate posts?

I love the podiobook idea - do you think there's one for "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom"? I tried to read that one, and around chapter 2, reading it inside my web browser got old - laptops are not good e-book readers.

Hopefully more thoughts to come when I wake up and read the whole post... thanks for the direct message. You should plan on coming up for Orlando Fringe in a few weeks - it's always a fun time and a completely different kind of geeking out.

Adam Teece I agree it is a bit long, but I didn't want to make one post per podcast. I tried to make is at least scannable.

Here is an audio version of "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom"

The ending of that video was maybe the best thing I've ever seen, ever, in a music video.

I can't believe nobody has included a link to 30boxes' excellent tool that does this without knowing Yahoo Pipes. I don't work for them or anything, I just love their services.

It's designed to be viewed from a mobile browser, but works really well in a desktop browser. Just throw in the names of up to 6 friends (I think, I've never done more than 4) and it gives you a page you can bookmark right away. The usernames are passed in the URL, so it's very flexible.

I just emailed this article to my bosses - we're working on a social networking site, and this "information network, information expert" model is very important to our plans in the coming months. It's nice to see it in a pretty graph form.

Hi Craig. I've just listened to this one episode, but I can understand why someone would want a transcript for this podcast. You give some great tips and specific figures and URLs during your speaking that would translate well to text. you must not write a script if it takes some time to transcribe episodes.

Also, you guys have stepped up your show notes with some great branding. If someone does email the notes to a friend, the document is already portable and still carries links back to the originating site. If I ever do show notes, this is how it will be. Also, this document is serval kilobytes vs. several megabytes.

I'll be sure and give your podcast as an example at PodCamp Orlando if I ever get that going.

The digg audience is almost entirely made up of followers, not leaders. That's actually the business model for the whole damned site! It's not a big surprise to me that a service that allows for individuality and groups and privacy would not appeal to the "me too" crowd. Digg users don't like being told they can't do something - they're spoiled in that way. That's why the HD-DVD code was such a big deal, and the comments changes too. If one person has a contrary idea and they can be persuaded, the Diggers will glom on so they can be "cool". This is how pop/anti-pop culture works.

If this doesn't apply to you personally, great. Generalities are not ultimatums. There is a sliding scale, I'll be the first person to admit to that.

Pownce (without having used it) seems like a "friends only" type of service - it will end up having a completely different audience because the service is fundamentally different. You're not sharing with the world, but custom groups. This is Facebook vs. MySpace. One is for friends, one is for the public. The type of audience you see on these sites is very different. A service that gave you the best of both worlds was LiveJournal, with friends only, private and public posts, as well as custom groups. This is just that idea with a focus on IM and file sharing.

What I want is NOT Rocketboom on my profile page, but on my feed view when I log in. Why would I want to post rocketboom on my profile? How is that cool? It's totally nerdy.

The podcast you linked to is not actually the Florida Creatives podcast, but a film-oriented podcast I have not updated in several months.

Thanks for writing about our group. Hopefully we will see you on the 19th at Crooked Bayou.

Robert,

I wish you would post more about kaboodle. I sometimes scan blogs, and if I had stopped 3 paragraphs from the end, I would not have gotten to the Kaboodle coverage at all.
