in Gilmore Girls: No Eighth Season? on Webomatica
Amy SP left quite a mess when she left at the end of Season 6. She took the character of Christopher who up until then had only been a minor plot device and placed him front and centre signing him up for 14+1 episodes of Season 7, more than half the season, supplanting Luke as a main character. She told us to invest in Luke and Lorelai and we did, just to see her break them up in such a horrible, disgusting way. She took a decent character, like Luke and turned him into a jerk. She turned Lorelai into a nutcase and a lot of people lost respect for the character. Chris was forever given a pass.
David Rosenthal did what he could with the mess and overall, except for using Christopher way too much, he did a very good job at cleaning it up. Only when Christopher was finally off our screen did I feel that we were back to classic GG. It was glaring that Christopher did not belong in Stars Hollow and to continue with his pairing with Lorelai they would have had to move them both out, thus defeating the whole concept of GG. So normally I would not care whether there is an 8th season or not and would say good riddance, but I feel that this digression needs to be redeemed. That the Lorelai and Luke story needs to get back on track and the majority of the fans who are rooting for the couple need equal time to make up for the waste that was the "Chris and Lore saga". We need more than a few rushed episodes to finish what Amy has started in the first 5 seasons. We will never know what came over her to sabotage the show the way she did. Intentionally or not, the stigma is there forever for the fans and the show.
If the show ends now, life will go on and there are other shows, good shows to fill our evenings, but this has taught this faithful viewer one valuable lesson. Never to get so invested in a show and its characters ever again. I will never watch anything coming from the pen of Amy SP because I don't trust her anymore. I will never watch any show or movie where David Sutcliffe plays a role. (I used to be indifferent to him and his character Christopher, now I loathe the sight of him) and if I find out that Alexis Bledel is the cause for no season 8, I hope she regrets her decision for the rest of her career and I wish her a lot of flops along the way. Lauren Graham should consider herself fortunate to finally star in a long running show, having appeared in so many failed series before. Scott Patterson seems to be the only grateful one for the break that this show has given him and I will always root for him and his career.
