I love my dog dearly, but I have limits, both financially and humanely. I don't believe in putting animals through lengthy treatments and subjecting them to unnecessary pain because our love and attachment to them keeps us from practicing mercy. That said, I'd probably try just about everything up to that point trying to heal them, burning through some emergency fund along the way.

Some companies even offer pet insurance, or pet insurance riders to cover this very thing. It is an interest thing to consider as pets can be costly. Excellent subject!

Well, I'll deposit the check into savings if they send another, but I'm not for a second round of stimulus payments. The way to increase middle-class wealth in this country is not to tax those who are rich, but to ease the very taxes on corporations (such as oil) they are talking about taxing even higher. Those companies are owned by shareholders (~98% of the company, that is) and those shareholders are made up of middle class Americans investing in mutual funds inside retirement portfolios. By taxing the corporations into oblivion politicians are ultimately hurting the very class they claim to be protecting.

Interesting comparison--Dog Whisperer/Preschool Whisperer. I've got a preschooler who is a bit hyper, compulsive, and has some sensory processing issues. The only thing he responds to is calm assertiveness, as raising voices and forceful "timeouts" don't seem to do much other than spin him higher and higher.

By the way, I'm a Dr. Wayne Dyer fan myself, and am currently reading through his old Sacred Self book.

Thanks for the link--glad you enjoyed the article. I've been stuck in sort of the same place you are regarding work, etc. I used to want to be a coach (athletics, that is) and coached my kid's soccer team for several seasons. I'm also mentoring a couple new bloggers (though I'm still not convinced I should be mentoring anyone!). I guess things will shake out in time.

@Treadmill Workouts: You are correct that often time wars are started by the highest levels of two governments, but the casualties are felt by the very bottom, including innocent civilians caught between two factions. I think that is the saddest part of this, and any other conflict, even those that are necessary for self-preservation or to stop tyranny.

Sounds like a good day (well, minus the “handholding memos"). I like the idea of starting each day with a clean slate. When we allow things to carry over day after day stress and depression tend to really pile up and weigh you down. This is something I need to work on.

I can only imagine the buzz around NY/NJ regarding Favre. It will seem strange to see him in something other than a Packers jersey--at least it will still be green. I hope the move works out well for him, and the organization.

When my son tells me stuff like that it makes me want to call out sick and spend the entire day playing with him. I used ot make fun of stay-home-Dads until I had kids, then I decided I could do that in a heartbeat!

The other day we ran to Target and came out with a couple bags, two kids and it was pouring rain. We piled in the car soaking wet and then realized my son had picked up a $3.00 toy car that we had not paid for. My wife and I looked at each other and I agreed to take it back in the store to pay for it. Part of it was to set an example for the kids, and part of it was because it would have eaten at me for days.

Since it inspired a blog post from you a couple days later, I imagine it is bothering you, too. If it is, you have the answer to your question. Still, I probably would have been tempted to do the same thing sans kids. Don't beat yourself up over it. Go back the restaurant and order a couple desserts and coffee and leave another generous tip.

Same here...I'm often most productive when crunched for time. Perhaps it is because I am the ultimate procrastinator, or just because I work better under pressure. Either way, if the deadline is a long way out, and I have ample time to work on other stuff, there the project sits.

Now, I'm off to "close the door" and work on tomorrow's blog post!

And there you have it...the secret to the man's success. He invests in what he know, and he invests through an easily repeatable vehicle without fail. While I'd like to be a stock-picking mogul, I simply don't have the time for the required research. Buffett's answer if perfect for people like me because I can invest it and forget - and then get on with life. Now, if I just had a million to invest!

Thanks for mentioning my summer energy savings article. 108 sounds pretty warm, even with low humidity. We will soon see heat in the 90's, and with humidity it probably feels like 100+ degrees.
