Sounds like good news. I was initially very enthusiastic about the Diamond 2, but with this new release, I am thinking that Hero is the way forward; the fact that it will be forward compatible is reassuring!

I just hope that Orange don't put too much of their own things and spoil the interface. It's due out in July (early) on the £40.00 contract for 24 months, but the phone is free and unlimited internet browsing is thrown in. Still too steep and too long for my liking so I might just wait a few months.

I really like the video, although in an ideal world, I would loved a longer introduction :)

Hopefully the White HTC Hero shown here is a good representation of what we'll get for the Orange exclusive Graphite one and it will be truly customisable; I have an LG ViewTY at present, and the front interface is full of Orange icons, ones I don't really use and haven't quite worked out how to remove.

Orange have a great customer support section (at least, in my experience they have always been helpful and friendly) but it's really good to see them also catch up with the competition by launching some very cutting edge phones.

Shawshank Redemption has to be one of my must-see films. Amelie is very feel good although I do wonder if guys would enjoy it as much as girls.

YAAIC (Yet another admin interface change) ?? 2.5 was a big leap from 2.3, and 2.7 is yet another jump. I guess we should expect something new in 2.9 ;)

Definitely agree with your point here, Andrew. I really liked the new features in 2.5 but wasn't as keen to see the release of 2.6 this early-on (others will disagree) Hopefully 2.7 will be on-schedule rather than ahead.

Would definitely like to read your thoughts on the camera functionality of the Hero. Engadget's examples showed that the colours did look a bit washed out (compared to some of the sample shots in the comments for the N97) just like LG ViewTY (which I have) and it would be great to find out more about actual user experience!

Arrived at this post via Lorelle's Twitter: what a treat! The video was very well shot and I loved the mini-interviews with the all the different generations. Of course, the sausages made me so hungry I think I might have to actually go and buy some locally made sausages this weekend!
