in Twitter And Magpie: Point And Counterpoint on How To Split An Atom
Thanks, for the comments, it does help.

I don't mind promotion of some sort when you have established rapport, it's the ones who do it in their first correspondence--just not the warm fuzzies or a conversation starter for me.

And, I have never in my life, in one place, seen so many people who are marketers.

BUT, I am not complaining all that much, cuz I 've met some interesting, funny and really nice people on Twitter .I also can find myself sucked into its vortex for hours some days.

in Twitter And Magpie: Point And Counterpoint on How To Split An Atom
Hello again...

I had a question of sorts.I ask, because I want to know if it is just the people who have found me on Twitter or if this applies to more of the masses?

Is it only certain groups on Twitter who do one or all of the following:
1. They follow you, you follow back--they DM you with a generic blurb and have their blog or some other advertisement?

2. They seem like a "human" when they follow you and after looking at some tweets you think, "okay, I 'll follow em' back" (I just am leery of spammers), but then you start to notice many tweets contain their products they are selling?

3. Or all of a sudden they are talking about "giveaways" en masse?

4. Or if you read someone's blog and tell them they start spamming you with signing up as a subscriber regularly?

5. Is there a lot of multi level marketers on there, or is it my imagination?

This is DEFINITELY NOT all of the people I follow/followers, but it seems the ones who fall into those categories tweet the most. And if it is just me, oy! I need help in finding new twitterers :-)

ophelia_chong 1. everyone on Twitter will promote their latest work, blog, etc.it's a given. and not too intrusive if its kept to a minimum.
2. you can always unfollow someone if it gets annoying. most of the time i ignore it.
3. it could be the holidays and some PR people get products to send out on Twitter.
4. you can always add them to your "junk mail" list, or ask them politely to stop.
5. there are quite a few multi level marketers, not your imagination :O)

hope this helps. the more you tweet the more you reach. most people are not on it all day/night and might miss the first tweet about a product, blog etc.

in Twitter And Magpie: Point And Counterpoint on How To Split An Atom
Ugh! I find it disruptive for the same reasons you do, plus it is hard enough to keep track of your own networks' tweets, once you start amassing followers and vice versa. I see the counterpoint, but that just doesn't resonate for me.

Many people are becoming more immune to advertising in general and when the execution is something as "junky" as Magpie tweets, I'd have to wonder what sort of success they would have in getting exposure for the product. Maybe it has a higher click thru than I assume, but all I have seen on Twitter is people complaining and threatening to unfollow those who who subscribe.

Thanks for posting such a timely issue, nicely done.

Jak I think you are right. When I first saw the amounts of money they were ready to dish out, I thought they may be doomed, because I don't really think they will get the click throughs needed to sustain that payout. but then again, it depends on the value you assign to a Twitter click through. And since the advertiser pays upfront for delivery and not click through, they are safe for now. But will the advertisers keep coming back?

Either way whether Magpie lives or dies, others will follow and most likely learn lessons and improve the response.

It is amazing! I think it would be great to sort of organize the blogs in the way you have, in a way so that when you do a search it gives you some indication if it is alive or RIP.

If you need material for the subject of anon blogs, let me know(I also trust you personally,I know that you could see it and not judge). At some point I may not be anon, but a lot of what I write is really from heart/soul & anonymously I can sustain the purity in expressing. Some of my stuff is just boring too.

Love your writing! I miss your good mornings and good evenings on Twitter.

True, true, true. When researching a topic, I have come across many abandon blogs. I also think when you commit the words, there is a responsibility and we can be known to run from ourselves, to not claim that moment in time. I have a blog, I write it anonymously...crazy? Yep! I want to be as honest as can be without having other thoughts enter my head, so far I am keeping it alive and have not had to resuscitate it. Nice piece

ophelia_chong Amazing how many are out there. It takes time and its hard to come up with something to write about at times. That's interesting you write anon. on your own blog. Now that's a subject for a posting. :O)

thanks for visiting and commenting, it is appreciated and not taken for granted. :O)

in Hand Over Hand on How To Split An Atom
Lovely words in which I live by, even when my life sucks complete ass (sorry for the visual :-)) I always lend a hand without thinking anything of it....cuz that is all there is in this life. Individuals in which all relationships and interactions have meaning. Do for yourself as you would for others. Maybe it took something on such a grand scale for some to come to that setting at the dinner table? Great one Ophelia--love your writing!

in The Handshake on How To Split An Atom
So very true. I don't mind expanding my on-line universe, but when it comes to building long term relationships...I am casting my vote for the genuine, real-life (not wax figure) handshake, hug, smile, etc...the interaction "in-person". Nothing beats it and it doesn't feel real til I do.

SEO Got to agree with you on that. True relationship should be offline and real-life. At least we get to interact via our 5 senses.

in Social Media Super Villians on How To Split An Atom
I totally agree. i think all social media can be used in a positive, relationship building manner. I also believe if you supplement that with getting with building relationships further off-line, then its like planting seeds in your garden. Plus, you can pass along what has sprouted up in your garden to others who may benefit (of course you always have to yank out those weeds), whether its an introduction, a job, product, etc...

sbspalding Agreed. In a world in which anyone can be a "personality" it becomes even more important that we take care in the growth and cultivation of our communities.

in Anatomy Of A Coffee Stain on How To Split An Atom
Who knew the accuracy in a coffee stain, wonder what the one the hood of my car has hidden within its borders? How about Popsicle drippings? Or mustard drippings from out of my sandwich onto my notebook?
