Notice a lot of the white and black Dems who won were failry straight shooters (Webb and Cardin, Derval Patrick), not traditional Democrat lightening bolts for controversy, a la Slick Willie, his wife, the Kennedys or Jesse (Junior and Senior). Tell them I broke up with this so-called "perfect" sista (and I'm in DC so I can get all the dirt from Hal's fellow Penn gads) because people don't get along. I met this white chick and we hit it of. Nuff said. Any of you who don't like it, tough. Then attack like a Rottweiler on Corker's ads, call him a redneck douchebag to his face. Tell him that black people DIED at the hands of people like his ancestors for the RIGHT and the CHOICE to attend St Albans, Penn, not talk like you just fell off a turnip truck in order to satisfy some bamma idyll...

Marriage is a religious concept. If you don't think gays should marry, that's your right and between you and your God. However, as a civil/governmental matter, if two American citizens want to commit to each other, pledge monogamy, provide for each other in the event of illness and death, then they have the civil and basic human right to do so. Jeez, it's pretty simple to me. Eitheryou get equal protection of the laws and due process, or you don't. if not, then why not just toss all the gay men nd lesbians (and out the closeted ones) into camps like the Germans did and gas them? Sound crazy? Not really. Once you deny someone's basic humanty under the law, everyhting's possible.

Personally (based on my religious creed) yes marriage is between a man and a woman. But that has nothing to do with my civil view of marriage. I see no conflict here. I am against female circumcision, but if that is the dominant tenet of someone's religion, I can't go into their nation and stop it. However, if they are living in America--it's called child abuse and assault. if there is a growing body of laws, opinions, etc that label it wrong and a vestige of the subjagation of women, then that will turn the tide. But I'm not going to label someone a barbarian mutilator without recognizing culture.

PG Co. Maryland isn't that kind of "mecca". Was more a myth and now especially-so in my opinion. You have a softer housing market plus huge influxes of folks from DC who have been pushed out by gentrification. Many of these folk are not educated professionals, so to speak. And many of these high salaries have been dependent on upper-level public sector jobs that are drying up or being contracted-out. The paradigm isn't a hubby who is a top executive at some high tech firm and a stay at home black mom, nor is it so much a Cosby-esque family (a doctor and a partner at a big DC law firm for example), but rather it's closer to a spouse who is a GS-20 with the Dept of Agriculture, and the other spouse is an assistant principal of a high school. That's a fragile egg to keep in the air, especially when your kids are starting to literally emulate the thugs you moved into the burbs to escape. Now they live down the street, and you son is hanging with them. Hate to be so harsh, but someone had to present the other side. Oprah would be living in a $3M capital Hill or G'town brownstone, or a $5M cape cod over near American University. She wouldn't be in Bowie or Mitchellville, sad to say...

I've jokingly stated this on my blog, and left a comment on Field Negro's but hear me out: as I have always considered the Clintons opposite sides of the same coin as the Bushes, is it outside of the realm of possibility that they have hired or taken playbook pages from Karl Rove? As stated, they put Dick Morris on the payroll back in 96 and that resulted in more scandal and the Lincoln bedroom being auctioned, plus all those pardons. I have seen Rove and even Pat Buchanan offer stout defenses of Hillary on TV and in print and I am scratching my head. I'd like to see more outrage (as is lacking re: the 4 girls found dead and decayed here in DC...murdered by their Mama...and the only outrage is misplace crap at the city government, which wasn't truly responsible); indeed this Obama "backlash" and white female ascendant crap as united even my superstar "colleague" at Georgetown Mr. Dyson, and Bill Cosby! Perhaps the mass of our other okey-doke politicians and pastors (those pastors not following Huckabee and the other white nazis who hide behind Jesus) should consider showing some balls and endorse Obama. It might show Mr. Rove he doesn't have all the answers...

Outrageous. Raise money, shame the coons. That's my strategy for Obama.
And if all else fails, I'll be out there stumping for Old John as long as Huckabee's not the VP...

We still don't want to just come out and say what needs to be said, as white people are shielded by a thick wall of denial. This isn't about victimization or blaming. It's about simple truth, history, reality, and just as we don't like to hear the truth about ghettofab behavior, hip hop or Tyler Perry, they refuse to hear general truths about this country. Simply put, most African Americans position themselves closely with what Re. Wright says. I say most because you have a segment that's just plain ignorant or swimming in nihilism; you have that continegent of Booker Rising douchebags, creatures of the white Right, lunatics such as Clarence Thomas, or bought off clowns such as Armstrong Williams or any number of pastors getting Faith Based cash from Bush and who think gay marriage is the number one issue facing black folks today.

Our society refuses to acknowledge that many black folks join the military due to opportunity and not misguided patriotism, just as generally many people period, especially white kids, join because they were the B- to C (or worse) students in high school, liked the fact that you could buzz cut your hair and be hardcore and travel, make money (very little), and otherwse have meaning in your life other Wal mart, botched football scholarships or getting pregnant at 18.

Um, as for No Child...and texting and American Idol and other dumb sh*t...I thought it aided military recruiting in other ways: churning out a lot of softheaded, malleable, umemployable, one generation from illegal alien, one foot in jail or rehab or the skinheads folk who have nothing left to do (except get pregnant or get someone pregnant) BUT join the military. Not everyone can afford or get into MIT, so they gotta go somewhere...LOL

As for what the military's doing right? Well, Tricare's still a mess but it's better than no health insurance at all, and we can't all move to Canada or Denmark where society cares about people. Payday loans--at least there's been "credit counseling" of GI s and their families. Hopefully soldiers and not hired mercs are doing more on the ground in Iraq. Then again, why should our troops act as security guards for carpetbagger firms? The acid test for the US military will be against China, who I consider our worst nightmare, not a bunch of clownish jihadis. Then agai, the same firms and GOP donors who supply the Pentagon are also sweethearts with the Chinese...including outsourcing. And our business sector seems content in mortgaging the nation to them. Why not? Money talks, patriotism walks. Ask the young Marine who's "Marlboro Man" visage was the face of the Iraq war. Now he's suffering from post traumatic stress and no one gives a crap. Or Jessica Lynch. Or Pat Tillman. Or every Marine, GI, sailor and airman of color who does his/her job for a nation that still can't make up its mind over our worth and bona fides.

Teaching a course this semester at georgetown called the Public Intellectual in Modern Journalism. I am tired of seeing Dyson on TV full of sound and fury an signfying nothing, and not here on campus doing research. I'm tired of seeing Amy Holmes and her "I only date old Jewish Men" shaggy ass hair. I'm tired of Joe Johns and Michelle Bernard not telling us how they are play both ends against the middle conservatives. I'm soooo weary of Juan Williams.

The galleys of my new book are out--the Darker Mask. Endorsed by everyone from Tom Fontana (creator of Oz) to Zane. Gary Phillips and I are now worried if any of the thug lit reading thugs and junior Beyonces will read it.

My sister got laid off from a lucrative healthcare consulting/compliance and HR audit job. No warning. Anyone got a job in Charlotte.

My cousin who's never held a job is getting his benefits increased. he's got three kids by three different baby mamas and a 72 inch plasma TV and HALO 3. We had to suffer IVF and I am yearning for just a 36 inch flatscreen. And the difference between is why Barack Obama will not win this election...

Perhaps we should re-direct focus on some concrete issues and not the pissing contest. The Alfonso Jackson thing exposes salient themes on race, the economy, greed and the Bush Administration, as an example. The post on China while yes it's a great vehicle for attacking the Clintons, it should be a wedge into our general problem of CEOs and Wall Street mortgaging this country to a nation that likely bears a bigger threat to us in the long run than jihadis. Likewise, where do the candidates stand on Darfur, on Tibet? On the neo-colonial push of China into Africa, with African govts all too willing to take the cash and turn over their already suffering populaces (after a century of racist imperialist followed by decades of similiarly vampiric rule by their own people) to the whim of China?

If you wish to be the antidote to Kos fine. if you want to battle the right wing blogs, fine. But mix in the more mundane--and critical--matters of life and death and our future as well as the horserace/gladiator carnival of this election and the diversion bullshit issues it has come to embody. That stuff with Dobbs is indicative of what I'msaying. He rails against immigrants as a hook, yet he also has written books on the assault on the middle class, onhow Bush sucks, on CEO pay, etc. Turning around and piling on Barack is something a focus group consultant told him to do. Is he a racist? Who knows? His right hand woman for many years was a black correspondent who was anything but right wing.

TV news is expensive to produce, and analysis, real talk etc is boring to the average moron. Opinion, shouting, slime is entrallng so that is their business model. Is it a chicken or the egg thing? At this point it's hard to say what drives what.

If black folks would stop buying ghetto and video vixen books would publishers stop printing them? Yes. If publishers stopped doing that first, what would happen? Well as long as fools couldn't get them bootleg, who knows? Perhaps folks would indeed get the message and start goin for more intelligent fare.

The reporter had me on the phone for 30 mins but of course time and the press conference dictated an edit. Would have been nice to clarify the allegorical nature of "game over," the disconnect between Wright's speech and the Q & A, and my unwavering comparison/contrast vis. Sen. Obama and JFK. Re: the last point, both men promised a different way, hope, boundless energy. Both men were also "light-weight" and that does NOT mean weak, naive, stupid. The difference is that JFK had hardcore people around him, especially his father, Joe Kennedy, who would have had Jeremiah Wright locked in a box in a submarine for the past six months, with all copies of all but the most joyful sermons locked in that box with him.

David Axelrod is supposedly the expert. He should have anticipated this, planned for it. Yes, planned. Perhaps he didn't think the campaigned would get this far? Perhaps he underestimated the "old-school"/tribal politics of the this nation which even a kid could of picked up by watching "John Adams" or "Gangs of New York," on HBO. I don't know. The fact remains that given (1) the cable news and blogsphere's penchant for "soap opera-ization" of news (and that's a nasty, apt metaphor in and of itself), (2) the average viewer's passive, almost ignorant processing of such news and it's delivery through pundits/entertainers, and (3) that many white citizens will, consciously or subconsciously, glom onto any "excuse" not to vote for an African American (who isn't a cipher or humunculus like Clarence Thomas, or Blackwell or Swan, etc.), Axelrod should have been on top of this and had it nailed down from the start.

You can preach the politics of hope, a new path, unity...but sometimes you have to leave some dead bodies on the street to get there.

Brooke was proud of his accomplishments and his heritage; he always corrected whitefolk who proclaimed him the first black senator--he said he was the first "popularly elected." Recall your high school civics: senators were appointed by vote of the state legislatures, not directly by the people, until the beginning of the 20th century. He always said that blanche Bruce of Miss. was his hero and a portrait of Bruce (born a slave and black as midnight) hung in his office. He wasn't a Panther by any stretch...but would Barack be? Hell no. But Brooke has always said he's black/Negro/colored or whatever we called ourselves in the last 70 years and he pissed off at Barbara. yet as we see, the soap opera/pundit hype machine establishes it's own truth.

That said, all that crap Juan mentions in that single part of the narrative which I find not horseshit IS REAL!!!! WAKE UP. It hits us harder and points up a basic knuckleheadism that will stymie us at every turn. Bet this: I suspect at some point Barack VERY soon will move closer to the middle on this and channel Bill Cosby. He's got the political dap to do it now, because unless he beats Michelle we got his back. Plus--it's the goddamn right thing to do!

I don't see Karl Rove exhorting negroes to blow each other away in Philly, or Baltimore...or that utter mess in Chicago...or here in DC. I see rappers in prison getting book deals or Zane outselling legions of zealous community poets and thoughtful literary folk such as James McBride and Martha Southgate etc. I see folks holding candlelight vigils for R Kelly .

PRESIDENT Obama's going to use the "bully pulpit" I pray to get rid of a LOT of demons.

Spielberg: Amistad, Color Purple.

Spike: Malcolm X. OK, our sentimental fav and powerful. Also one of the THE most long winded movies ever made. I think we need to say before Aaron McGruder makes a Boondocks episode of it that Spike has a ways to go before he can attack anyone, and doing so a stupid means of promoting the otherwise beautify story in McBride's book is inexcusable. Why do we cut him so much slack?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say if Spike had done Bird, the film would have sucked and the last you'd seen of Forrest Whitaker would've been in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Point two: Spike did 25th Hour and Inside Man--both about white men (more or less). Did white people go nuts? No. As a matter of fact, I'd assert that 25th Hour was one of Spike's best because there was none of this preachey, heavy handed bullshit in it (or at least, not as much).

What does this have to do with politics? It's culture, and culture IS the prime element in politics. Not power. Because the power issue is tied to cultures and tribes competing.

No, the core issue is that Spike Lee acts crazy sometimes. Don't read the rest of it into his antics because that's exactly what he wants.

If he wants to attack somebody--how about Tyler Perry, or Martin Lawrence, for the same old low brow (or faux-high brow when Tyler tackles "serious" relationship issues LOL)? Or the fact that most of the good black male dramatic actors out there are BRITISH because we want rappers and comedians here. Stuff like that. But no, rather than articulating a great position in a forum like Cannes, Spike shoots his mouth off. It could have been a constructive pulpit. He just wants to play little big man.

To paraphrase "The Wolf" (Harvey Keitel) in "Pulp Fiction," let's not start sucking each other's d**ks (or other fun, naughty bit) quite yet. Step one, beat Hillary. Step two, bury the damn hatchet 'cause like it or not, e need this corps of white women and indeed even Hillary's elite Praetorian Quard/Waffen SS of dyke ninja/rangers, to beat McCain. There is no other way to say it, sorry.

Absorb your enemies, give them a taste of the spoils and march on. Hell, if we could ally with Josef Stalin in WW2 to beat Hitler, then appropriating Hillary's disciples and casual voters is possible.

I'm not equating McCain with Hilter. Rather...the folks now behind him, reluctantly allied with him.

Now the word should go out for every preacher and activist, from Rev Wright to Spike Lee, to keep their damn mouths shut till Nov. 10, 2008...and that includes shutting Bill Clinton in a room that long!

First, we reap what we sow. Our more ghettofab folk and then our comedians send this stuff out there, the white people pick it up like aliens intercepting the signals of those 1950s sit coms in space...

That said, it only seems to raise a snicker among the FOX viewers, not outrage. Again, Obama's JFK. JFK picked LBJ as a running mate and before that had his dad. How many goddamn times to I have to say it before it sinks in--get a pit bull/non-punch puller. Preferably a white male "real guy" (ie not an arugula eater and somebody who can fricking bowl with the crackers) to fight back publicly. Not necessarily a running mate--just a foilor shield. These liberal namby pamby Michele Obama "anti-smear" websites do nothing to swing Podunk and the burbs. They're smearing Michele, boo hoo. What did you think would happen? Sure it might turn off soccer moms but they're still sore over Hillary and you can't rely on them too much at this stage.

Hire Va. Senator Jim Webb, or that big white congressman ex-QB Heath Shuler and turn them loose on FOX, et al before it's too late. Put Larry Flynt and his bootie detectives on the payroll. Start your own covert "plumbers" corps to bug the RNC. Spread rumors among black servicemen and women that if the GOP still rules it'll be like the old days when black soldiers and sailor were lynched on-base or chased down the streets in town...

This isn't about McCain. The same people behind the negativity are also nervous about the old fart, which is why this is going to be a nasty campaign. if they can crush Obama, then they will show McCain he needs to tow the line if he wants to live out his term.

I am a father. I hold my son in trust for himself, our people...and yes our community as a whole and our nation.

Why is that so damn tough for other black men? I see rap moguls and athletes who aren't even married to their child's moms wanting their sons dress, speak and act a certain way...or they resist the way their kids do speak, act, learn now that those kids are in expensive private schools. Even murderous Mafia dons and Jewish gangsters used their crime money to send their sons OUT of the hood. To become accountants, doctors, attorneys, scientists, bankers, engineers.

We as fathers hold our sons in trust. We as trustees have a fiduciary duty. 'Bout time we re-learned that...

Who IS a real journalist these days? I don't mean a brand name celeb or pundit or blowhard. I'm sorry but my choice would be to wrachet that show back to the pre-Russert days when REAL journalist rules. Boring? Yeah, but hell if we don't need to put the brakes to our descent into exciting ignorance. I say Moyers or Charlie Rose for that very reason...or go all out for Gwen Ifill.
