On Tweety: this just proves my point about him, about Russert, about the sorry state of journalism.

Off topic: will SOMEONE tell Michelle Obama to stick to the basics. When you're trying to sway middle dumbass America, don't submit crazy recipes to Family Circle while Cindy McCain submits oatmeal cookies. Sloppy Joe, mac and cheese...call it a day.

in Hell…to the Naw! on Jack and Jill Politics
Who IS a real journalist these days? I don't mean a brand name celeb or pundit or blowhard. I'm sorry but my choice would be to wrachet that show back to the pre-Russert days when REAL journalist rules. Boring? Yeah, but hell if we don't need to put the brakes to our descent into exciting ignorance. I say Moyers or Charlie Rose for that very reason...or go all out for Gwen Ifill.

in Sunday Open Thread - HAPPY FATHER’S DAY on Jack and Jill Politics
I am a father. I hold my son in trust for himself, our people...and yes our community as a whole and our nation.

Why is that so damn tough for other black men? I see rap moguls and athletes who aren't even married to their child's moms wanting their sons dress, speak and act a certain way...or they resist the way their kids do speak, act, learn now that those kids are in expensive private schools. Even murderous Mafia dons and Jewish gangsters used their crime money to send their sons OUT of the hood. To become accountants, doctors, attorneys, scientists, bankers, engineers.

We as fathers hold our sons in trust. We as trustees have a fiduciary duty. 'Bout time we re-learned that...

in Friday Open Thread…..yeah, it’s Friday on Jack and Jill Politics
No link, just the Michelle Malkin thing on FOX with the graphic "Obama's Baby Mama."

First, we reap what we sow. Our more ghettofab folk and then our comedians send this stuff out there, the white people pick it up like aliens intercepting the signals of those 1950s sit coms in space...

That said, it only seems to raise a snicker among the FOX viewers, not outrage. Again, Obama's JFK. JFK picked LBJ as a running mate and before that had his dad. How many goddamn times to I have to say it before it sinks in--get a pit bull/non-punch puller. Preferably a white male "real guy" (ie not an arugula eater and somebody who can fricking bowl with the crackers) to fight back publicly. Not necessarily a running mate--just a foilor shield. These liberal namby pamby Michele Obama "anti-smear" websites do nothing to swing Podunk and the burbs. They're smearing Michele, boo hoo. What did you think would happen? Sure it might turn off soccer moms but they're still sore over Hillary and you can't rely on them too much at this stage.

Hire Va. Senator Jim Webb, or that big white congressman ex-QB Heath Shuler and turn them loose on FOX, et al before it's too late. Put Larry Flynt and his bootie detectives on the payroll. Start your own covert "plumbers" corps to bug the RNC. Spread rumors among black servicemen and women that if the GOP still rules it'll be like the old days when black soldiers and sailor were lynched on-base or chased down the streets in town...

This isn't about McCain. The same people behind the negativity are also nervous about the old fart, which is why this is going to be a nasty campaign. if they can crush Obama, then they will show McCain he needs to tow the line if he wants to live out his term.

in Hillary " Deranged Narcissist" Clinton Concession Speech Open Thread on Jack and Jill Politics
To paraphrase "The Wolf" (Harvey Keitel) in "Pulp Fiction," let's not start sucking each other's d**ks (or other fun, naughty bit) quite yet. Step one, beat Hillary. Step two, bury the damn hatchet 'cause like it or not, e need this corps of white women and indeed even Hillary's elite Praetorian Quard/Waffen SS of dyke ninja/rangers, to beat McCain. There is no other way to say it, sorry.

Absorb your enemies, give them a taste of the spoils and march on. Hell, if we could ally with Josef Stalin in WW2 to beat Hitler, then appropriating Hillary's disciples and casual voters is possible.

I'm not equating McCain with Hilter. Rather...the folks now behind him, reluctantly allied with him.

Now the word should go out for every preacher and activist, from Rev Wright to Spike Lee, to keep their damn mouths shut till Nov. 10, 2008...and that includes shutting Bill Clinton in a room that long!

in Spike Lee Gets Uppity! on Jack and Jill Politics
No, the core issue is that Spike Lee acts crazy sometimes. Don't read the rest of it into his antics because that's exactly what he wants.

If he wants to attack somebody--how about Tyler Perry, or Martin Lawrence, for the same old low brow (or faux-high brow when Tyler tackles "serious" relationship issues LOL)? Or the fact that most of the good black male dramatic actors out there are BRITISH because we want rappers and comedians here. Stuff like that. But no, rather than articulating a great position in a forum like Cannes, Spike shoots his mouth off. It could have been a constructive pulpit. He just wants to play little big man.

in Spike Lee Gets Uppity! on Jack and Jill Politics
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say if Spike had done Bird, the film would have sucked and the last you'd seen of Forrest Whitaker would've been in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Point two: Spike did 25th Hour and Inside Man--both about white men (more or less). Did white people go nuts? No. As a matter of fact, I'd assert that 25th Hour was one of Spike's best because there was none of this preachey, heavy handed bullshit in it (or at least, not as much).

What does this have to do with politics? It's culture, and culture IS the prime element in politics. Not power. Because the power issue is tied to cultures and tribes competing.

in Spike Lee Gets Uppity! on Jack and Jill Politics
PS--anonymous: if you need a truck for work, etc. Fine. Otherwise, sell the damn thing and buy a Prius or something.

By the way: Clint wrote, produced and directed the Charlie Parker flick (Forrest Whittaker's first starring role)

Spielberg: Amistad, Color Purple.

Spike: Malcolm X. OK, our sentimental fav and powerful. Also one of the THE most long winded movies ever made. I think we need to say before Aaron McGruder makes a Boondocks episode of it that Spike has a ways to go before he can attack anyone, and doing so a stupid means of promoting the otherwise beautify story in McBride's book is inexcusable. Why do we cut him so much slack?

in Spike Lee Gets Uppity! on Jack and Jill Politics
Come on people. Spike can be a true fool sometimes. This is one of those times, and it cheapens the Miracle at St Anna project. He had now reason, right or cause to open his damn mouth in the first damn place. Nuff said.

Ah, the usual knee jerk "thuggery, violence, nihilism" is not just in us thing. The hip hop is not to blame thing.
I bet you're under 30, right rhondadocca? Been reading too much Sonya Sanchez lately. Ok, human beings are human beings. All communties have problems, not one thing's to blame...blah blah. That said, all that crap Juan mentions in that single part of the narrative which I find not horseshit IS REAL!!!! WAKE UP. It hits us harder and points up a basic knuckleheadism that will stymie us at every turn. Bet this: I suspect at some point Barack VERY soon will move closer to the middle on this and channel Bill Cosby. He's got the political dap to do it now, because unless he beats Michelle we got his back. Plus--it's the goddamn right thing to do!

Cos-by Cos-by Cos-by.

I don't see Karl Rove exhorting negroes to blow each other away in Philly, or Baltimore...or that utter mess in Chicago...or here in DC. I see rappers in prison getting book deals or Zane outselling legions of zealous community poets and thoughtful literary folk such as James McBride and Martha Southgate etc. I see folks holding candlelight vigils for R Kelly .

PRESIDENT Obama's going to use the "bully pulpit" I pray to get rid of a LOT of demons.

in The Crabby McCrab Show, Starring Juan Williams on Jack and Jill Politics
This part is instructive and real: "And he has to challenge his supporters, especially his black base, to be honest about real problems at the heart of today's racial divide – including out-of-wedlock births, crime, drugs and a culture that devalues education while glorifying the gangster life."

The rest is horseshit. I am sad, not angry. Juan has to do this almost Tavis- or Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Whatever like dance, or is it a Fox News jig (his meal ticket)? To keep the carnival alive they must hash and rehash Wright's crap etc. so Juan has to do his part in the 24 hour newscycle.

But again, I'm sad, not pissed. Why this? Why the horseshit when there are so many other bigger, stinkier, nastier road apples still popping from BILLARY and the GOP? Obama and his campaign has faults, true (though not on this blog), but this commentary sounds like some dire admonition of sorts, as if Lewinsky or Watergate or Teapot Dome happened, or he friggin' shot Alexander Hamilton! Howl loudly, not correctly. That is the hallmark of pundit journalism.

Time to ask him in person.

The world news what too many Americans refuse to accept.

Jack, good piece!!!

But may I throw this out: just as bizarre and tragic as Bill/Hill

s fall is my boy old John McCain's embracing of his party's core. In 2000, this would not have been anything he'd consent to. I know reconciling w/Dubya was like being back in the POW camp having communists shove bamboo up his ass, but he seems to have become comfortable w/that crap, and the pointless, unethical campaign sprew it entails. Screw the Clintons. They spun the evil wheel and lost. My point has always been that the wheel is there and Barack needs to toughen up on it. But McCain always showed in word and deed some basic aversion to the wheel as well, albeit from another perspective. His eagerness to take his vitamins and ride disturbs me...

in Now That Obama Has Closed the Deal… on Jack and Jill Politics
Mel Watt's blather is instructive. They are utterly out of touch, and of course depend on the laziness or snow jobs on regular voters. Al Wynn backed the banks and the surprisingly huge debt-purchasing/collection agency lobby in the bankruptcy bill deliberations. Of course the rest of the CBC and quite a few pastors backed this. Bizarre.

The problem is there are not enough Kevin Powells and Donna Edwards'. It cost $$$ to run against an incumbent, and face it, Barack needs these assholes on a symbolic level/unity at least. Can't ignore them--too much of a loose end. Of course, he should go Joe Stalin on them after he wins (if he wins).

I repeat this statement from a previous comment (it seemed to get lost in all the vitriol over Hillary's lunacy, Fr. Phleger, etc.) earlier. Fools like Mel need to think this over.

"Amid all the rancor and pseudo-issues...are we forgetting that history is being made now? I know that sounds trite...and I also know that white folks in various newsrooms or in Peoria don't want to publicly acknowledge it (nor do folk who depend on Podunk or the burbs ofr ratings, etc.) but this is one for the history books. Clyburn doesn't need to talk about the Civil Rights movement. That's all bullshit and ephemeral when compared to the centuries coming before it, and dream planted with the tears of a couple of folk off-loaded by the Portuguese on a frosty morning, at Jamestown Va. Yeah, there were hundreds, thousands dumped by then in the Caribbean, in Brazil. But these few were the first. if you want to know why I support Obama despite my differences on policy, apporach, tenor, you need not go any deeper than those tears in the dirt..."

PS: put Maxine on the list. She's a shrieking do-nothing diva and we can't afford her anymore. It's all got to be about roll up your sleeve, no chiefs just Indians work...

Nice for us all to agree for a change. Clear Channel is not a red flag, it's a supernova. Not only for it's bizarre status-quo/rightwing bent, but also for it's plain vanilla-zation of radio, TV properties down to bland/stupid least common denominator crap(but hey, it's not salacious, ignorant least common denominator crap like BET), and the proliferation of billboards across the south and midwest.

No, you will not see real news. You will see Watts and Steele, and stories on patriotic Negro troops marching around.

The flip side: less Rev. Al, Dyson, Soulja Boy & Lil Wayne, Chad Johnson, Jay-Z, Pacman Jones, Miss Rap Supreme contests, teenagers toting guns to the boys room in the highschool. So hey, you gotta take the good with the bad...

in Minority Bloggers Need to Be Present at the DNC Convention on Jack and Jill Politics
There's an element of academic interest in this for me. Think of it: American journalism and a one venerated political correspondent corps (be they liberal or conservative) has become so degenerated and degenerate that a critical is the denial of access by BLOGGERS. No MSM snobbery intended or implied. But that we now have to depend on bloggers is both a stunning confirmation of a new media reality...and a stunning condemnation of our professional news outlets. Indeed, maybe it says something sort of well, bad about the average American's taste for "news?" I'm not hating. I'm just saying...

Agreed but turn down the quasi-cultist vibe: "Still, let those who think him soft stand in awe." Um...I think when you make statements like that you sound a bit off. Otherwise, what makes you any different from the glassy-eyed Fox News/Hannity/Beck. Ted Nugent/Pat Roberston true believers et al...or the Hillaryites? Always have a dose of skepticsm about EVERYTHING, including Obama. It will keep your sense of perspective, as well as a good hedge on having your heart broken. Don't drink the Kool Aid.

PS--having the balls to run for President as a black man does NOT mean you CAN'T be a lightweight. JFK was a lightweight, yet still brave. Abe Lincoln was a manic depressive, yet led the nationa and endured multiple heartaches. But since you've clearly taken a sippy sip of Kool Aid, it appears you don't want to at least parse the distinction...
