Where's Robespierre when you need him?

Bill Maher has a running gag on his show where each week they showcase a country you might want to move to should McCain win the election. I wonder what the emigration stats are over the past eight years.

Gary Shandling, appearing on the Bill Maher show last week, made an astute observation. He siad that Bill Clinton should have sold the country back in 99 while we could still get a good price for it.

Ages ago, seriously, a great while past, Fred detailed the future of how folks will enjoy music to me. I knew then that it would happen, and it seems he's going to be proven right......again.

I can't type fast enough. I tried to 'live blog' or 'real time blog' that 'save the planet' bullshit concert last year. It was fun, but exhausting.

The BRIC countries certainly are 'drinking our milkshake', to borrow a term from John Stewart, and coupled with the lousy Dollar - a result of the US borrowing billions from those same countries to fund our nasty war habit has left us in a position where we're going to have to start changing our habits, much of which is long overdue.

Comments as a meter only serves as a measure of your post's commentability. Cerainly if you're after discourse, as I know you are, then the number of comments is a good gauge of success. Sometimes I read great posts that don't leave the reader with much to say besides "great post". I wish that everybody who reads my blog would comment, but so few do. As you know, at times I'll toss up a contentious post just to get some action.

I will say that the Raconteurs have fooled me twice with songs from their new record that I heard on the radio (101.9). One I though was from the 70's (one of the other guy's tunes - not Jack White), and one I thought was early 80's (a Jack White number). In both cases I liked what I heard.

I think a top ten of 2008 would prove very difficult for me, and not because of too many choices, I think you know what I'm saying.....

Same deal in Amsterdam, much like the Copenhagen situation; you use a coin. They were sort of beat up but useable. I suppose in the USA we'd need to have a larger deposit, say, the cost of a bike.

I think a month abroad is exactly what you need. Try and shut down if you can.

The question I have is; how many different platforms does one need to share one's personal life with strangers?

I don't see Tony's issues as immigration problems, they are law enforcement and education problems. What Tony needed, before he moved, was better local government and better allocation of tax dollars to improve law enforcement and education.

You can't stem the tide. Alaric will always sack Rome before he's convinced to go home.

I appreciate Tony's position. Indeed I witnessed it. He bought property, and it turned to crap at the hand of criminals and the school where he was going to send his daughter went down the crapper as well, he was forced to sell his home and move a lot further away from his employment base.

BUT.....

Those things should have been, and could have been addressed by law enforcement and the Board of Ed.

The problem Tony faces isn't really an immigrant problem, it's a social problem. We spend tax money improperly.

We have a border with a country that is economically challenged, and it, in turn, is a corridor through which even more economically challenged people pour into our country. That will not change until those countries are on par with us socially and economically.

You'll never stop the influx without addressing the reason why it happens. In the meantime I suggest voting for people who want to increase funding for education and law enforcement instead of those who wish to drop bombs on distant populations.
