in Featured Video: Star Wars Retold by Someone Who Hasn’t Seen It on Jandy's Meanderings
Now I won't need to watch Star Wars trilogy, or quadrilogy, or whatever it is by now. I got the story! That 4 minute clip just saved me HOURS!
Jandy Hours you weren't going to spend anyway. :p This is just the original trilogy - she didn't touch on the prequel trilogy, but it's not particularly worth watching anyway.

in Film on TV: 15-21 December on Jandy's Meanderings
Mom and I just finished "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". Wow, this thing could have been filmed live in politics this week. With the Blagojevich scandal in Illinois now in full swing, I thought all through the film, the state is Illinois, and we are watching realtime news. Thanks for the heads up of what was going to be on TV this week!

in Pet Peeve: Security questions asking for your “favorite” on Jandy's Meanderings
Well said! I have often worried about banks using "mother's maiden name" as it seem s that it would be easy for somebody to find out if they really wanted to. And they all seem to just love that one. I often use "favorite movie" and just vowed to never change no matter what new movie comes out that I like more.... First pet's name I guess is OK with me. Just can't use "pet's name"
Jandy Yeah, "mother's maiden name" is far too easy. I only use it if there's no other option. If I had EVER had a favorite movie that I could definitively point to, I might use it...but I'd have to go as far back as Hans Christian Anderson or Justin Morgan Had a Horse! (i.e., my favorite movies when I was, like, six).

A comment on my livejournal pointed out that the best was when the site lets you make up your own question and answer. When they do that, I tend to use something like "what's the full name of your horse [or dog]". Since we never use their full names, it's not likely someone would be able to figure it out (particularly with Cim, since his registered name is different from what I call him - someone could probably dig up Rebel's full registered name if they wanted).

in Watch So You Think You Can Dance! on Jandy's Meanderings
Wow! I might have even tuned for that. But since I am reading this on Thursday morning, I think I have missed it. Was the show taped in advance, or do they do these live?
Jandy They tape on Mondays, then it airs on Wednesdays. The results show on Thursday is done live, I think. It's good they don't do the competition show live; they had to keep stopping and restarting to get stuff right! Although not as much as they might've, honestly. The host and judges are really great at it.

And don't worry about having missed it; you couldn't see me and my friend in the audience anyway. But the dancing was great!

in The Great St Louis to Los Angeles Road Trip on Jandy's Meanderings
Great traveloge post! I didn't know you picked all the music to listen to while driving that matched what you were doing at the time. Reminds me of Pastor Jeff picking all the hymns to match the sermon! Such coordination!
Jandy Well, I don't really. Most of the time I had it on a mix - which is when the Sheryl Crow song popped up and I was like hey, this is a good driving song. I'm not actually sure the song "California" came on at all (or I think it did, but not right when I got to the state), but it was appropriate. So the music choices are representative of what I was listening to, but their placement along the drive is somewhat edited. More so later because I started just putting on mixes instead of consciously choosing what to listen to.

in Featured Video: Frames of Reference on Jandy's Meanderings
Just finished watching this. Plus reading the creator's post about it. I agree, very well done, and obviously with a lot of thought and work. Since I had not seen 80% of the films used, I know I missed A LOT, but it could see what he was doing with the "similar scenes" theme. Sorry Jonathan cannot use his real name on his blog.....
Jandy Yeah, I hadn't seen all the films either, and didn't recognize the clips from several of the ones I had seen! Even so. I keep wanting to do something like this myself, but I always get overwhelmed by the time it would take.

You write the question: "and who has the authority to choose that criteria?"

My answer: "It should be a centralized, government appointed panel of 5 experts. After they establish the criteria, all written material must be submitted to this panel for review and determination, and they must determine how well each submitted article matches the criteria, with a scoring. Only those articles that have a score of 95 or higher are licensed for publication, if the author hasn't died yet." :-)

After analyzing her response, she is disappointed that she came out as balanced as she did. She wants to be more right brained than she is. She wants to be more artistic, more free, more talent in the arts, a musician, maybe a painter, interior designer. Wants to be a book reviewer/commentator. But, she is too balanced for these!

Mom scored 6 left, 7 right. I figured she would be off the chart on right brained. But she is almost as balanced as you! I'm the unbalanced one!

in Jandy’s Meanderings » Our justice system at work… on Jandy's Meanderings
This reminds me our justice system at work when it convicted a couple of border agents that had stopped an illegal alien and when the alien started to run, they shot him (don't know if they killed him or not, but may have), and each the two Border agents got about 10-12 years in prison. You can imagine the effect that has on them as well as the rest of the border patrol. "Illegal alien? Let him go, I don't want to go to jail for doing my job..."

in Jandy’s Meanderings » PDF rant on Jandy's Meanderings
I got a PDF at work of some forms that I wanted to not have to rekey, but could not get them out of the PDF. A guy in the next cube had REAL Acrobat, and he was able to open the document and save it as a Word doc, so I could copy and edit it. Saved hours. I think you need the REAL Acrobat. Bobber's idea of the student discount rings nice as well. Pastor J also has a bunch of experience with PDF's and I would guess that he doesn't want to print them off either.....

in Jandy’s Meanderings » Blogs and 18th Century Periodicals on Jandy's Meanderings
Dear Editor:
Knowing NOTHING about 18th century periodicals, and not much about blogging, other than reading some from time to time, I find that comparison interesting, and right on. I confess to have spent 2 1/2 hours in the early AM this morning to reading a technical blog (a large part of that was listening to 1 1/2 hours of podcast on the upcoming problem of all the Calendering systems that must be patched to deal with our legislature's changing the Daylight Saving Time by 3 weeks this spring, and 1 week this fall, and why you will not know when the meeting is for three weeks, and if you don't fix it right, you will not know after that either....

Bottom line of this: Yes, it was like a magazine article, good content, timely, important, and in the case of the blog, very current (didn't have to wait for the presses to run....).
