Congratulations on this release, very impressive.

It does leave me, a pure .NET developer, very much with the impression that Mono is 'different'. All features seem like they are 'bridging a gap'. I have never developed on Mono, and I was resiously expecting this to only be the Mono runtime, and a way to fool Visual Studio so that F5 runs anything I do on Mono. That I would develop my app normally, and then flick a switch to see if it runs on Mono.

For instance, I'm not sure why I would need to debug on Linux. Shouldn't programming to the BCL mean it runs anywhere a compatible VM runs?

Comcast has horrible customer service. I wish there were more choices in my area.

I was billed for a cable modem rental that was incorrect. The customer service person stated that there records only went back 6 months and since I had service for 6+ months they COULD NOT make the adjustment over the phone. They could have easily handed the problem to a manager to research and then call me back. Instead they stated I would need to go into a service location in person with my documentation. So grudgingly I went in with my paper work showing my MAC adress for my OWNED modem. They did not even bother to look at my paper work and was ready to adjust my bill by returning the charges. This was NICE but then made me LIVID that I even had to drive into the bleeping service center. I admit I lost my cool and professionalism. The manager came from behind the two-way mirror and asked me if everything was OK. I said I had no problem with the counter attendant but with the horrible customer service that brought me into the center.

Instead of a 15 minute call to return my $36.00 for the rented modem charge. They ended up compensating me for 1 months billing for TV+Internet along with my rental charge.

I would have been satisfied with them just correcting the billing mistake in 15 minutes in the first place. MY TIME AND EFFORTS ARE IMPORTANT.

Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware!!!

I am thinking about trying Qwests internet but am hesitant to switch from TV service.

It's not out of your league. You just need some planning. Here's what I think you should do: Chunk it up into segments, like a radio show, and repeat the same format every week.

I'd suggest:
* 1-2 songs per week that you found on the Net and people can download for free. Plug the band, plug the URL, ask for submissions. This is, like, guaranteed content.
* Cool gadget/tech toy/Website service of the week. You already do this on your site. All you have to do is read what you wrote, or I can provide ideas. Remixing Trent Reznor with Garageband, Audioscrobbler, Airblogging, SmartWrap - you've got a ton of content already.
* Restaurant of the week.
* Observation on something about life in Los Angeles, or life in general, or maybe a news story, or something.

That way people will know what to expect, and if they find the content interesting, they will subscribe, and you will become famous.

The bar you should set for yourself is: "If I wasn't me, would I listen to this? On a regular basis?"

I'll work with you to juice it up - we should do a theme song if you want to do this on a regular basis, and some sound effects. The xylophone is pretty funny but you just need to hold it closer to the mic.

Tuesday is cool. World domination. Let's make this podcast stand out from the rest.

Also, I'm personally not down with the extended entry thing. It's easier for me to use my mouse wheel to scroll down than drag the mouse over to "Continue" link and then click on it. Mike, you can change the file extension of the archive pages in the Movable Type control panel. Just switch the extensions of the archives from .html to .php and you should be able to call your includes as needed.

For the airblog issue, there should be a way in the Airblog control panel to assign a URL to the image call before it encodes it and sends it on to your blog. Either that or a quick fix would be to set up a subdomain (airblog.nimh.com) where the root directory is public_html/airblog or whatever it is on yoru site. Then make sure you are always pointing to the subdomain in your link tags.

For the main image thing, that shouldn't be a browser issue since it's all done on the server side. Send me the script you're using and I'll take a look.

Newspapers are a dying medium unless they change to meet the 21st century. The internet provides news instantaneously, who goes to a news papers anymore for their news?? Its like most of them don't even know the internet exist...I mean I still see papers printing stock quotes...why? Waste of paper and space...I can either use the internet or just text message for near instantaneous quotes. Ask anyone you know when was the last time they actually looked at a quote in a newspaper. I did and the response...out of 10 people...zero! Not one person could even remember the last time they looked at a quote in a newspaper...so why do papers continue to publish this info? This is only one out of many problems newspapers have; hence the reason they are a dying medium.

I love your playoff idea to generate some great end-of-season excitement, but it is ludicrous to suggest that any team play its playoff games outside its home country. What about the fans that go to the stadium every week to live and die by their team? They get screwed for the best games of the season. Can you imagine if they staged the Super Bowl or the World Series* in Europe?

Community Shield to start (though the first step was really MLS All-Star game and friendlies), then move to early regular-season games overseas like NFL and MLB have done. That is the more logical solution.

Casual games and MMORPGs are opposite poles on the spectrum in terms of level of required engagement, attention, commitment, etc. They're antithetical. The far greater market opportunity is in casual games (e.g., witness Wii, Scrabulous, etc.) and the research shows people prefer to play casual games with their family & closest friends, not strangers (which MMORPGs must play to, of course, given the way they're designed). XBox Live has supported several casual titles where users can challenge strangers online but these have not been very successful.

Also, of course games are a Hollywood, hits-driven business. The reason Blake was successful on Facebook was that he was able to quickly iterate & modify game engines (witness Vampires begets Zombies). Analogy: small, indie films. Putting all their wood behind just one massive game environment sounds a very risky business model and strange that the normally conservative August Capital would bite at this.

Note, Susan came from Charles River Ventures but why didn't they choose to invest? Kinda concerning...

I agree with okeribok. It seems everyone's standard for comparison is a big desktop beast that can run Game X at some screaming mips or flops or refresh rate or dpi. Rather, as soon as these netbooks can come down to $200-300 with 'popular' software (Microsoft, ugh), we'll either see a flurry of mainstream advertising and buying of them, or Microsoft will find a way to horn in on the deal and price them back out of our bedrooms and kitchens.

a couple of your points are ok, but AfterEffects a deadhorse?? Have you ever used it? there's few programs that are as good as aftereffects for the price. Adobe should drop Freehand, fireworks, and director before aftereffects. There is no replacement for it that macromedia has. Flash is NOT a video compositing program.

Recently Microsoft announced a new ASP.NET MVC framework and there has been a lot of interest in it, so it's not really dead in the minds of programmers.
In fact, I believe that even in SOUI (as I understand it) you'd still need routing and controllers. Granted, views are not needed if you have a single page AJAX/DHTML interface, but you still need to call to an endpoint that maps to a controller.

Hello, I have off topic feedback about your style of presentation. It's ok for me to watch job related presentations at work, but in some of your slides you use some generally related pictures. The thing is, sometimes they are a bit 'weird', I don't mind about it normally, but sometimes it bothers me when others might see that on my screen, the think I'm just browsing some weird the website. One time there was a 'flexible' woman and another time there was aguy dressed up as the devil. I don't know where you find them, but if you would consider making them smaller or using less strange images, I would appreciate that!

How about a columns for each datatype, so value_string, value_int, value_datetime etc columns? That way you waste nothing. We have a piece of software that works that way for storing arbitrary metadata in an asset management system.

So the plugins so far are 'known' plugins, meaning that Kona knows when to call plugins at certain extension points (to calculate tax for instance). How about plugins that add functionality that Kona has no way of knowing about yet?

After a purchase, a web service should be called that will put an order into an ordersystem at the warehouse. All discount actions should be twittered/tweeted. I don't know, I've never run an ecommerce site, but that's the idea, all the stuff people can come up with, that wasn't anticipated.

Microsoft is a huge company, it's still going on. Think about the ill communication around LINQ to SQL. So I guess even though the MVC thing is great, there's plenty of fresh memories, and people just need to vent I guess.

Perhaps it's better not to dwell on the bad, but to ask for more of the good? For example, I would like to seel the Routing library open sourced, as well as LINQ to SQL!

And of course, no information was shared. By this point, even IF they release a v2.0 I will not use it, because they have proven themselves untrustworthy. And of course, it means I am very sceptical of using their other products as well.

It's a good lesson of how not to run a software product, in this day devs expect regular blog, twitter and forums updates.

I've finally unearthed what Hannah actually *did*, if the reports are accurate at all. Do you really think that if he punched a straight man who just happened to die from it, that he would have been charged with murder? I'm not sure how much this actually has to do with Hunter having been gay. Claiming he was being hit on is a ridiculously weak defense. However it still holds that the dude only got punched (or maybe punched several times?) -- i don't think it would count as murder in any case. I will concede that it may not have been prosecuted as harshly as it should have been -- but it seems awefully specious to argue (based on nothing but loosely related anecdotal comparisons) that it was only because the victim was gay.
