I've been wondering lately about whether the overhead that Flash adds to playing video will in anyway influence the success of alternatives. The iPhone has already taken a pass on it for exactly that reason I believe.

And also, I'm not currently using Linux, but I believe there is a gui in Totem for browsing and playing Youtube videos directly.

Re: Glubble

This has been a gap in the market for a while, (well, on the Mac there is Bumper Car, http://www.freeverse.com/bumpercar2/) I'm glad to see someone stepping in with a Gecko based product and generally pushing the "not everyone needs, or wants, to use the same browser" issue.

Re: Just Another Village of the Damned

It went by too fast for me to confirm, but was it not actually two desk sergeants reading Banks, though one reading Iain *M* Banks and one reading just Iain Banks?

Re: Manufacturing is changing with us

Another data point that supports you:

The Pandora open gaming handheld is a cross between a tiny netbook and a Nintendo DS. It was designed, specced built by the members of the retro, emulated and homebrew game community. Similar to some musicians' recent strategies, they actually sold-out the first run of 4,000 copies before anyone had even seen a dev-unit. Interesting times.

For more info, see: http://www.openpandora.org/

I like the CrunchPad but I feel their focus on Flash-delivered video probably ruled out ARM chips with the attendant impact on size, heat and battery life.

Adobe are working on this, but I'm not sure where they are with it.

http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/press...

Re: Ducking an iPhone Annoyance

A glimpse behind the scenes of predictive dictionary compilers:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6hcoT6yxFoU
