About the Muslim Women Incident

rik~

Co-sign. Barack would do well to make a special visit to Bloomfield Hills to apologize to the two women who were mistreated, and to the local Muslim community.

in Obama Expresses ‘Deep Disappointment’ in McCain’s Silence on Wife Attacks on Jack and Jill Politics
Michelle Obama needs to understand that if she chooses to make controversial statements in a public setting, then there is a chance that those words will be used against her. The lynching pic was over the line and unacceptable, but there is nothing wrong with people with questioning her in other areas.

Bottom line - it's just politics, and it's something that she'll have to learn.

I'm confident that Mrs. Obama doesn't need to be condescendingly "schooled" by you or anyone else. She's well aware of the desire to attack her. She's well aware that she's not the typical blonde and blue-eyed first lady candidate. And she's well aware of the racist and bigoted lampooning that will come her way.

She's not complaining. It's those of us Black folk who were the intended "collateral" targets. And we aren't running for office, so not only do we have every right to speak out, we have the duty to do so.

So if anyone needs to be schooled, it's you ... cameron.

And Craig,

Beyond all the stellar examples of Black women who destroy that stereotype, I still have to marvel at how one can *accept* that stereotype in any way.

It's an insult to my mother; my grandmother; my sister; your mother; your grandmother, etc., etc.

D,

I find it appauling that you can accept a racial stereotype of Black people, simply because it serves your political point of view.

in SWOT For Barack Obama on Jack and Jill Politics
I'm afraid that one big weakness Obama might have is if he's perceived as a "tax and spend liberal". I was very unhappy to hear a day or so ago that Obama spoke in favor of a windfall profits tax on oil companies. This is exactly the kind of "gimmick" that turns off Independent voters.

If anything, independent voters don't rely on catch phrases to educate them. In other words, they know the difference between "tax and spend" and "borrow and spend". The latter is what has our debt unpayable; our dollar dropping in value.

The term "tax and spend" is what Republican hacks rely on to energize their base. Not to educate (true) independents.

If Obama can articulate that, it's more of an Opportunity than a Weakness.

in Group Of White Folks On Fox Define Michelle As "Angry Black Woman?" on Jack and Jill Politics
they panel seems to be discussing the tactic of labeling Michelle as an "angry black woman," not calling her one.

I don't see the issue...especially since they seem to think that it's not a good idea to paint her that way.

d:

You don't see it because your political conditioning has blinded you to such things.

In reality, though, all one needs to do is hear the phrase "angry Black woman" while seeing a video montage of Michelle Obama, and it's not hard to deduce what FOX was attempting to do.

Did you not hear the racial references made about Maxine Waters, Cynthia McKinney, and all the other Black women who are "angry" because their son killed in a drive-by, etc.?

Do you have a Black mother? Has she ever been angry? Is she the Angry Black Woman that these people are talking about?

in Al Sharpton’s Boycotts Lead to Big Corporate Bucks on Jack and Jill Politics
Sharpton has, time and again, proven himself to be concerned about Sharpton.

By the same token, corporations time and again have proven themselves to be indifferent, yet entitled to the Black consumer.

While there's nothing illegal going on, it does prove to be a convenient little dance that both Sharpton and the corporations are doing. The corporations continue with poor diversity practices and non-urban dictates, while Sharpton remains fat and happy with his hush money.

Not sure if Brokaw has the "quicks" to step in and moderate MTP. He better serves as NBC as its distinguished statesman.

David Gregory gets a thumbs-up for his ability to be tough and tenacious with the White House. He was stupid for encouraging DJ KKKarl Rove, and if he doesn't see why, then that's a strike against him.

Ed Gordon is another one of those distinguished journalists, although I don't know about his grasp of the issues of the day.

Gwen Ifill would be my choice. She's distinguished herself as a serious journalist with integrity; remains concretely objective; and (by her mere presence) would demand an accountability for diverse perspectives of news and politics.

in CBC Clinton Supporters Go A-Beggin and A-Shufflin on Jack and Jill Politics
Co-sign with rikyrah. Let 'em twist in the wind.

Those CBC members -- like the rest of *most* Black Americans -- were gift wrapped and hand-delivered the very thing we've always wanted: a Black person with a serious chance to be president. Yet they acted as though they were smarter than us; as if there was something so much better in store for them, that it was worth the acceptance of race-baiting, cultural mockery and ethnic humiliation.

Well, since they wanted so badly to follow the lead of the Clintons, let them keep following.

He has as much "experience" as Abe Lincoln did.

Mr. Wise hit a home run. I was particularly impressed with:

"You could always have said you were going to go out and vote for Cynthia McKinney. After all, she is a woman, running with the Green Party, and she's progressive, and she's a feminist. But that isn't your threat is it? No. You're not threatening to vote for the woman, or even the feminist woman. Rather, you are threatening to vote for the white man, and to reject not only the black man who you feel stole Clinton's birthright, but even the black woman in the race. And I wonder why?"

I like the idea of a 50-state strategy. Get out there and make your case to anybody and everybody.

That said, part of me doesn't want to acknowledge some of the Appalachian bigot Democrats who refused to vote for a Black man. I also have misgivings about Barack trying to "reach out" to confederate flag-waving people.

in Monday Open Thread - How was the weekend? on Jack and Jill Politics
Now that the general election campaign has begun, the 'contradictions' and 'bents of character' will receive greater scrutiny than ever. And if this scrutiny is of his record and his judgment is characterized by Obama or his supporters in a way that makes voters feel 'challenged' to defend their skepticism or criticism against cries of 'racism!' than he will fail to win much of the white vote.

In other words, you and a persistent handful of others, are still hoping that there's some way to "niggerize" Barack so that y'all have plausible deniability.

You can't do it with his record, because it's about as sparse as John Roberts'. So really, all you can do is make him out to be the typical angry Black man that makes SOME white people uncomfortable and distrustful. All the while being able to patronizingly say that they're not voting for Barack because he doesn't have the right "temperment" or "judgment".
