Jake,
Any idea if Beehive (Oracle's next gen Collaboration Product) has anything similar?

No idea, drop me a note, and I can put you in touch with the Beehive product team. You can ask them directly.

Jake,
I've worked from home most of my 11 years at Oracle so I'm probably not the best person to speak here but...I have spent several weeks in various Oracle APAC offices (Singapore, Sidney, Melbourne, Seoul) which have this type of open space design in one form or another. For the most part, general work isn't too bad, but anytime you actually have to talk on the phone it is a nightmare as there are some 20 or so conversations going on around you at any given time. To me it just seems to push people to be less interested in speaking with someone and more inclined to use various other forms of communication, i.e. email, IM, SMS, etc. I guess that would make open space offices more Web 2.0ish. Is that a good thing?

in What Do You Want from Us? on Oracle AppsLab
Jake,
Since you asked for feedback, I'll chime in here, but mostly to just agree with Matt above. As an Oracle employee I come here to hear what Oracle is doing in the Web 2.0 space. My guess is that most people both internal and external come here for the same reason. There's a million places out there to read about Web 2.0 in general so trying to grab eyes can be difficult. As Oracle has very strict policies with regards to discussing futures, the challenge is even greater. Thus, we probably all tend to comment on iPhones as it's at least something we can all share opinion's on.
Looking at the AppsLab -> About page:
"Oracle AppsLab is a think-tank developed to drive adoption of new web patterns and technologies across Oracle’s business and products. We’re a small group dedicated to living and breathing Web 2.0. This blog is our space for sharing our ideas."
The real question is how do we share ideas without exposing Oracle's product directions. And like the $.99 ring tone charge for a song I've already bought, I'm at a loss (no pun intended).

Jake,
As you and I have talked, you know we share very similar feelings regarding Apple, so you know I'm no Apple Fanboy either...that being said, I guess I'd like to know what you'd like Apple to do with your wife's dropped iPhone? Should they give you a new one for free? If you dropped your Moto Razer, what would Motorola give you? I know it's only a matter of time before I drop my iPhone, so I'll probably be as upset as you when it finally happens. Slippery little guys they are.
As for Apple bricking hacked iPhones, I have to say I wish Apple would have just ignored it and let the hacking go on as is. For you and your wife (and me as well) being early adapters, you were willing to pay full price for the features that were included in the phone as no hacks existed when you made the purchase. Sure the hacking community is pissed, but they're really such a small percentage of the marketplace Apple and it's shareholders probably won't care. I'm sure Microsoft is finally enjoying seeing Apple get beat on by the computing community for a change.
The battery issue, I agree 100% with you. We'll all cross that bridge sometime and it will be interesting to see how Apple handles it. I feel like my battery doesn't last like it use to when it was new, but it may just be me using my iPhone more and more as a laptop replacement.
Lastly, $0.99 ring tones of songs I've already bought. I can't come up with any justification for that!

Jake, not to worry. Remember when you found out about Santa Clause? It was a bummer for a few days but then the presents keep coming so you got over it.
