in Chasing a Moving Target on Above and Beyond KM
Mary:

First, thanks for referencing my blog post. Second and more importantly, great job on expounding on it. Yes, we KM converted get it - and have to keep pushing on those who do not recognize KM and/or see it through a single lens, be that technology or culture. Of these two, culture is the more difficult to stay on top of. Unlike changes in technology, changes in culture are typically not heralded with marketing programs and market studies. We have seen the legal profession change culture and practice due to changes in technology and client demand. These are a bit easier to spot and manage than changes from more internally focused issues. I sure hope you get some answers to the question you pose at the end of your post. Should provide some interesting commentary.

in If You Are a Wizards Fan, Gilbert Arenas Officially Hates You on Give Me The Rock
I think December in tremendously optimistic. After all, last season they kept saying he would back any day now before shutting him down for months.

I don't like too much risk until I have at least my top seven drafted. I'm letting someone else take him in the first five rounds and hoping it lets someone more reliable fall to me.

Andrew, I have ordered my Livescribe pen and am very excited to get it. You must be one of the very lucky people as you as the only person I have seen post that they have actually gotten a pen so far. I must disagree with some of your comments. I have talked to the customer service department and not had any problems. They were very nice and polite. Also the price of the notebooks, the best price I have found is a 3 pack for $9.99. As the IO pens notebooks only have 128 pages and the Livescribe notebooks have 200 pages, the math works like this, 128(pages) * 3(notebooks) / $9.99 = $.026 per page. Now time this by 800 (the number of pages you get in the four page by Livescribe for $19.95) = $20.81 or $.86 higher. I think your review of this product is like your math, flawed.

in Where’s Rooney? on EPL Talk
And herein lies the problem surely? Everyone has their own opinions about who should be included on the lists, and usually these will be biased towards their own players. I don't deny that Wayne Rooney, Javier Mascherano and Mathieu Flamini have been fantastic this season. So to have Mikel Arteta, David Bentley and Joe Cole.

However, some of the comments regarding Ashley Young here are bordering on the ridiculous. He has been key to the (partial) resurgence of Aston Villa this season. To compare him with Anderson (who as far as I can see is little more than a United bit player this season) is preposterous. Look at the team that surrounds Rooney and compare it to the one that surrounds Young, who has 17 assists of his own by the way. That it is detrimental to the point of the argument has no bearing on it's lack of a mention, I'm sure.

Unfortunately, the big 4 cannot get it there own way all of the time, something fans seem less and less willing to accept. Not sure the rest of the league would be as happy with such an awards line up as United fans.

The RIAA's battle is SO over, as we sit here in 2008. Musicians will sell their music directly to fans over the Internet, and lots and lots of copies will be spread around like snowflakes.

Soon after giving up television for mostly the same reasons posted above, I've come to realize I have much more time to do things that are important. Shows I miss most didn't have real characters (Simpons and King of the Hill) This has so much more to do with making fun of the way we live than anything else. Next on my list is consumerism the first stop is do the same to wal*mart as I have done to Television - get it out of my life.See you at the small business down the street (for as long as it's open)

in How to Hit the Enterprise 2.0 Bullseye on Andrew McAfee's Blog
One of the real problems I see with all these great communication technologies is that we seem to focus only on the benefits to the RECIPIENTS of information. Sure, if I can get a question answered correctly from some person I never met before, that's a great benefit.

But there's often real problems for the people on the other end. If I send a question out to 100 of my closest :-) friends, now I've taken up some time from each of them. What we're ending up with is incredible overload in e-mail and IM channels. Great if it saves YOU some work, but what about the 100 of us you grabbed time from? That's not trivial.

You can help us out, Andrew, by helping to articulate impact on everyone, and to see how we can address that. Otherwise we'll forever be adopting these new technologies and then abandoning them in an ever-shortening cycle.

I wish I were a conservative. 30 people.  $8,000,000.  I wish my boss could save over a quarter million bucks if I were cut.  Then again, maybe that's incentive I don't want him to have.

in On Eve of Straw Poll, Ron Paul Says GOP Has Lost its Way on The Iowa Independent
Thank you for the interview In a way, his assessment is accurate. If you look at the way his campaign started, it was the corner of an apartment. His words attract all types of people, I was a liberal as was the leader of my 160 person meetup group, and now we're Ron Paul supporters. His supporters are working hard for him, well beyond what the campaign could possibly do its budget. That should tell people just learning about Ron Paul something.

He doesn't get the coverage that he deserves in most forms of meda, so I thank you for taking the time to interview him and hopefully more people can at least educate themselves on his ideas.

in More on Warren Schools on Indiana Barrister
You didn't answer the question of where the data came from. Obviously, it is a private program that uses Census 2000 data and then guesses at what a neighborhood's composition is. The Census Bureau does not provide estimates of population by age, sex, race, income or education for neighborhoods smaller than Zip Codes, townships and counties between censuses. There is no OFFICIAL updated database of the one mile radius around Raymond and Post. The data you have is a guess. And a poor guess at that. I'm surprised that you're not willing to provide the name of the company that provides the database you are using.

in More on Warren Schools on Indiana Barrister
Attn: Check it Again, Carl,

The data I cited came from two reputable sources: the database of Indiana's Department of Education, enrollment data for the 2006/07 school year. And the US Census Bureau's website factfinder.census.gov. You say that you have a database that can provide demographic data for a one mile radius. Well, that is NOT an official Census Bureau database. And I SERIOUSLY question the accuracy of your numbers. Raymond Park Middle School is located at the intersection of Raymond Street and Post Road. A One mile radius from that interspection would be Troy on the south, Prospect on the north, Franklin Rd on the west and Mitthoeffer/Davis roads on the east. The last accurate count of the income and racial demographics of any neighborhood was the 2000 Census. The Census has provided no estimates or updates at the one mile neighborhood level. "Check it Again", you are using a proprietary program of a private company, whose accuracy could be questionable. I personally believe that your data is wrong for the neighborhood around the school. So, I've revealed my sources, which you can check. I request you reveal where you got your data, so I and others can check. Let's see who is correct. However, we do AGREE that Warren schools badly blew this. Their stonewalling is wrong. Finally, even if your data for the one mile radius neighborhood is correct, Bill O'Reilly's comments would still be inaccurate. Your data shows a racially balanced neighborhood. That's not an all-Black area or an all-Black school.

in More on Warren Schools on Indiana Barrister
Neither O'Reilly nor Abdul bothered to check out the make up of the school in question. Raymond Park Middle School is only 37% Black, 55% white, 2% other, the rest other races. The neighborhood where the school is, Raymond & Post Roads, has an average household income of $48,000, far above the average of the county as a whole. While Black students are bused in, they're buses in from other parts of Warren Township, including the many Black homeowners who live in the housing developments along Post, Mitthoeffer and German Church. For O'Reily to say the area is Black is totally false. And Abdul, who lives here should have known better and called him on it.
